EA Porsche License expiration - rumor or fact?

I've been reading in various places around the internet of a rumor that EA's license for Porsche is set to expire in December. Is there any truth to this rumor? Does anyone have the FACTS? One post that I read insinuated that Porsche was not going to renew the exclusive license with EA. Where are people getting this information and does any of this have any basis in fact?

Let's set the speculation aside. What are the facts?

How does this relate to Forza 4? I think that's self explanatory. Can we expect some Porsche DLC post December?

I don't know any actual facts only stuff I have read about the expiration of the license agreement.
And I hope with the recent move by EA to not sell to T10 that if this is the case that the license will expire that Porsche won't even put an offer on the table.
I don't care if the DLC costs money- I'd buy it regardless.

I read in a lot of places that the license expires on December 31, 2011. So I really hope there's going to be a lot of Porsches in FM4 after all!!

With Porsche employees lobbying on T10's behalf over the lack of Porsches for FM4 I reckon T10's gonna be in on this deal for sure. They were modeling a 928 by all accounts for this game and couldn't include it, so it's not like they don't have assets to use.

I don't know why but I just have a feeling that Porsche DLC is really just a click away. I can pretty much guarantee that in-house those guys are doing ALMS races with Porsche's them. And yes I'd pay for that DLC although I'd like to have it free.

Fact??? How do you know?

Specifically this paragraph at the bottom of the article...

We’ve asked our contacts at EA to reconsider their position frequently and regularly over the last 18 months. We also reached out to various influential people in gaming to lobby on our behalf, and on your behalf, but that was to no avail.

In our business, we stay friendly with all of the manufacturers and licensors necessary to deliver players rich and innovative automotive experiences. As you’d expect, this includes quite a few key people in Porsche circles. To make sure we tried everything, we consulted with these advocates and were happy to find they were already aware of the situation and lobbying from within on behalf of Forza 4--and, despite the result, we thank them for their efforts.

Personally I think T10 could destroy EA by not allowing them the Ferrari license, Tit for Tat IMHO

I guess they could, but I think any practices like these are always hurting the people that buy games. It's just not good everything has to be about commerce. I would not cheer T10 on for doing such a thing at all, I'd rather see all cars in all games for us to enjoy :)

EA have always robbed gamers of cars they own the rights to, The Bugatti Veyron, the Pagani Huuuuuuruayayyhhya, Porsche, I'm sure there are others I don't know about

Porsche couldn't break their exclusive contract and the Forza deal was always sub-licensed through EA as the IP licensees.

Deny EA Ferrari. EA doesn't even make a driving sim and yet they hog the Porsche license after T10 sub-licensed them Ferrari.

EA have had the Porsche license for years tho, i cant see them letting it slip too easily, as for the whole T10/EA porsche thing i heard that it was back with Forza 3, EA let T10 use porsche as good will gesture in order to get ferraris in hot pursuit and shift 2, when it came round to it tho MS were dicks about it and so when Forza 4 came round EA told em where to shove it. RUF are just as good anyways, i think Porsches are overrated and theres none i actually care enough about tbh, ahppy to leave em to EA games, i never used em in shift or hot pursuit and i'm not exactly missing them in Forza 4, i aint even bought a RUF

A few reasons why I think Porsche are important to FM4.
Also, this should be DLC :P

Porsche is more than just the 911. MagpieRacer's post summarizes my thoughts well. RUF produces more than just tuned 911s, too, but games rarely feature any of their other cars and RUF never built any "copies" of most of Porsche's older models in the first place.

My list of still-locked cars in Autovista will soon resemble a Ferrari museum, and I've spent more time in the Kia Cee'd than every Ferrari combined. But I still want Ferrari fans to have access to as many of them as possible. There's no need to downplay a quite legitimate complaint.

who said owt about the 911? its all porsches lol

I'm just not a fan of porsches, not really fond of the look of em, the spyder concept looks awful, the 'new' carrera thing is a bit rough n all and then verything else is based around the 911, my lil lad loves em but he's happy with RUf... well any sports car tbh cos he's car mad, I've always been a big Lambo fan, especially of the Diablo so seeing that in Forza with a good quality model kept me happy. I'd just be very suprised if EA let the Porsche license slip cos they've had it a long time, wasnt there a Porsche unleashed game on the 3DO or PSOne as well? theres one on the GBA but sure it was even earlier than that

If Porsche is unwilling to grant an exclusive license this time then there won't be one. And for the sales boost it would provide, I imagine MS will throw as much money at it as possible to be in on a new deal.

You might as well just not even care about cars period if you don't like Porsche or can't understand their significance on car history and why it's important to have the manufacturer in Forza.

Hey... Look at this...
Some one quoting you and not jumping on you for not liking Porsche.

I remember hearing the same thing... I am not sure how it went down though, but this rumor seems to make the most sense. So Microsoft/Turn 10 might not exactly be innocent in all of this. But still, this is doing nothing except hurting the fans of any of the franchises involved.

Heheh yeah true, i just dont like the cars, nothing to do with their part in motor history, i just dont find the cars pleasing to look at and i dont like their handling, same as why i wouldnt care if a tirimisu wasnt on a menu in a restaurant cos i hate the tatse and smell of coffee.
We all have our preferences in cars, its not just Porsche, i dont care for the Veyron either, its one of the most overhyped cars, oooh it can go 256mph, it has 1200bhp and 4 turbos, i'd be suprised if it didnt go 256mph. something special is the McLaren F1, a car with bout 627bhp, no turbo yet goes just 20mph slower than the veyron, a car which in almost 20years still holds teh world record for fastest naturally aspirated production car, whereas the veyrons top speed was broke within a few months.
If theres a porsche pack i will actually buy it, simply for my son cos he just loves cars, i just like racing games, i dont really have that much interest in cars, i'm not allowed to drive due to medical reasons so this is closest for me to 'drive' my fave cars from my youth, plain n simple really, dont like porsches handling characteristics lol

EA hasn't had a Ferrari in any of their games since the Shift 1 DLC. And last I checked, they're still going strong regardless.

It humors me that people think EA can be won over so easily.

@McLaren, not only that but the PS3 version of Shift didn't even get the Ferrari pack and it was still successful.

(on general topic) The shift games are really enjoyable too, sure shift2 had a few iffy moments at first but what game doesnt these days. If a game doesnt have a certain car manufacturer in it, it's not the end of the world, its not going to stop me buying a game just because a porsche or ferrari isnt in it, as long as the game is good and there is a good variety of cars on offer then i'll play it, shift 2 doesnt have my beloved Diablo, but i still play it a lot, forza doesnt have the Gallardo Lp48627985whateverrandomnumbertheystickatendofit but doesnt stop me enjoying the game any more or less
