With everything going on in the world I think it will really be a sign the end times are at hand if EA-Codemasters of all companies manage to release a fleshed out game at launch that actually functions properly and doesn't have some scummy mechanic to milk the players time/wallet*.

*There will obviously be something considering the pre-order comes with VIP passes, but hopefully it's just cosmetic stuff.

I extracted the long stages from each rally (which are the ones that count for unique km). It comes out to 1,035.4km counting the reversed versions. That is only 518km when excluding the reverse versions, so I think I am missing something because it's 82km short of the 600km mark.

In some of the locations (Corsica/Mediterraneo is one example) it is hard to identify where some of the smaller stages fit in to the long ones, so it's very possible I overlooked some km somewhere.

I don't think the little side roads (like in El Chocolate) would make up the missing 82km, so I must have overlooked a couple stages here and there. Also, I don't really know how to count the mirrored stages at all. I wouldn't count them as unique km, but they are kind of unique in that left turns become right, and vice versa.

Some of the short stages have unique roads too that aren’t seen on the big stages, they’re not all literal “half of the big stage” like in the last game.

Some cars are just hard to get over the line, every car (especially in the non WRC classes) needs a lot of things to go right in order to make it into a game, and it’s amazing that we have so many classics in there now.

I may have potentially mis-spoke there (it’s a live chat, things move quickly) as sometimes cars don’t make it into a game for reasons other than licensing, such as development capacity, cuts to keep the game in scope or simply not being finished in time for deadlines.

Yes, like my Mexico example above. That is a HUGE deviation. I take it you are confirming that those alternate side roads are calculated, too, so I am going to have to do a deep dive into the layouts LOL.

Can you shed any light on that mirrored section I showed above? As in, confirm that I am not crazy and that it is indeed mirrored?

Thanks for all your work, PJ. Things are shaping up to look pretty dang good, better with every video I watch.

Sounds promising. Putting the RBR argument to bed so far it seems.
His initial verdict is that RBR feels slightly better on gravel and WRC feels slightly better on tarmac, plus WRC is a modern game with all the benefits of “not being 20 years old” that entails.

The way I see it people have multiple good rally games to play now, whether it’s DiRT, EA WRC, KT WRC or RBR. Theres something for everyone.

I’m not sure on the seemingly mirrored section.

If that’s Kenya, the whole map is basically open fields (some straights are over 1km long) so maybe some of the layouts are similar in that sense?

Has anyone released gameplay footage from Series S (I've only looked at some of the vids linked here)?
I know the focus will naturally be on the Series X and PS5 (console wise) but it would be nice to see what EA WRC looks like on Series S too 👍
(I've already pre ordered so I feel like I've earned a video 😂)

All the previews are on PC

Was slightly tongue in cheek. I’m a self confessed rally game nut and I don’t think I’ve missed a rally game since V-Rally 1 on the PS1. Still have RBR-RSF installed on my laptop and play it occasionally (partly why I have strong feelings over comparisons). But you’re right, we’re spoiled with a huge range of great games.

Speaking of which, inspired by @Cabelmania and his inspired by Codemasters stage and car list, this is my inspired by rally games of history list:

Monte Carlo (summer): Subaru Impreza 2001 (RBR)
Sweden: Hyundai i20 Rally1 (WRC:G)
Mexico: Citroen C4 WRC (SLRE)
Croatia: McRae R4 (Dirt 2)
Portugal: Citroen Saxo (V-Rally 2)
Sardegna: Citroen Xsara WRC (WRC4 PS2)
Kenya: Lancia Delta HF Integrale (Sega Rally 2)
Estonia: VW Polo 2017 (EAWRC)
Finland: Seat Cordoba WRC (CMR2)
Greece: Ford Puma S1600 (CMR4)
Chile: Vauxhall Astra Kit Car (Mobil 1 Rally Championship)
Japan: Ford Focus RS 2001 (CMR3)
Corsica: Renault Maxi Megane (V-Rally)
Indonesia: Subaru Impreza 1998 (CMR1)
New Zealand: VW Polo GTI R5 (DR2)
Norway: Mini Countryman WRC (Dirt 3)
Spain: Peugeot 206 WRC (CMR2005)

Jimmy also mentioned that while not perfect the tarmac handling is better than rbr and second only to ac. Sounds good enough to me!
Well that's pretty damn good lol, if so.
I was expecting a somewhat disappointing improvement or change, from some other impressions. 🙏 🤞

Edit: im guessing Broadbent means the modded rbr..

Might be differing impressions based on bugged/incomplete implementations of different wheels, hardware,,and maybe settings chosen.

Im hoping at least it will have an overall level of quality, finish, that makes it easier than Kt games to enjoy thoroughly.

"RBR feels slightly better on dirt" xD. Well.... that means that WRC, like DR and DR 2.0, are on the right line. The further away from that RBR realism, the better ;).

That realism with constant "U" turns as the only incentive. For a car game to have the luxury of being called a Simulator, it must at least allow any possible driving style to be reproduced.

In DR and DR 2.0, on the other hand, if you want to imitate Mc Rae...Richard himself...Meeke...you can. You want to brake before...on...after...you want to enter past...pull Ebrake...turn with the Scandinabian flick or Swedish style or Makinen style etc. you can...and the difference will be palpable in the replays...THAT IS A SIMULATOR!!

If you have a realistic gearbox...a sensation of realistic speed...a car that responds to the controls like a real one...etc etc etc...that is a Simulator..

"I once played a simulator... well... I don't play it anymore... but it was real" xD And I understand it perfectly.

Are you perhaps confusing vanilla RBR with the modified version using the NGP plugin? Because vanilla RBR is almost universally despised for its unrealistic slippy-slidey zero grip dynamic model.

Is this the video you're referring to? If so, here it is for refereence, for those who didn't catch it live:

Also, in other videos, Traxion are doing their live co-driver bit...

And Alex from FailRace has tested some "unusual" cars:

I know. I have a PC. There is no good dislike... all these reviews are based on the original but retouched model. Therefore I didn't make the cut either. It's terrible too. There is no good version xD.

Just watched more of Jimmy Broadbents stream, he seemed to genuinely enjoy playing it which is great to see for a start. He showed off the stage degradation a few times, running 96th on the road out of 120 and the Sardinia stage he did was rutted and rough and looked a bit of a handful, really cool to see that the effect is much more prominent than in DR2, both visually and physically.

Really like the snippets of commentary ahead of stages, adds a bit to the immersion which is cool. The audio is general, as has been mentioned maybe a few times, is excellent, he went through a good range of cars and I haven’t heard anything that sounds less than good.

He did mention stuttering a few times, it was overly noticeable across the 2 hours but he did mention when it happened. Also the snow on Finland didn’t seem to have a huge effect on grip, there appeared to be some effect but perhaps not as much as we may have hoped. Also seems as though in time trial, every country is set to the same season, so Monte Carlo is dry summer/spring rather than snow and ice as it should be. Perhaps that’s something for them to consider going forward in that Monte Carlo in time trial should represent the rally as we’d expect it, given there are plenty of other non winter tarmac rallies.

The game on the whole just looks a lot of fun, loads of game modes and content, and we haven’t even seen what clubs has to offer yet.

16 days to go, can’t wait.

Clubs will be similar to DiRT Rally 2.0 but now hosted on the new Racenet. Last I checked you’ll be able to create the championships in-game once you have made a club on the website.

I should have access to it in a few weeks and be able to make the official clubs, plus a guide for creating your own.

Thank you, that’s good news.

@PJTierney thanks for the Club info and licensing stuff. Wonder how many weeks old the build is, the previewers are running.

As for the classic cars, will some get additional liveries or spec upgrade? Would love to see the '97 model of the 306 with their official liveries from Panizzi et Delecourt as well as the DIAC livery for the Mégane.

Just out of curiosity: the 309 GTI '88 made it in but will this cars have an official livery too?

Be interesting to see if there’s any liveries in the season passes/VIP passes.

309GTI has this livery.
