In January 2016, Musk Tweeted "In ~2 years, summon should work anywhere connected by land & not blocked by borders, eg you're in LA and the car is in NY".

"Summon" is a function to be built into Tesla's "Full" Self Driving. It was intended to get the car to drive itself to its owner. Just in the last few days, Tesla got Summon working with some "slight limitations" 😂.
  • Summon is controlled by continuously holding down a button on the user's smart phone
  • The distance between phone and car must be no more than ~200 feet
  • The user must be able to watch the car at all times
  • It's only released to some "influencers" at this stage, not the general Tesla owner
Tesla has now changed the way it advertises and sells the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package. The changes are significant because they suggest a shift in the company's stance on its promises related to FSD capabilities:
  1. Text Changes on Tesla's Website: The term "Full Self-Driving Capability," which previously promised continuous improvement and the potential for future full autonomy, has been replaced with "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)." The revised description now omits any mention of continuous improvement or eventual unsupervised operation. Instead, it suggests that the features depend on "development and regulatory approval," with no guarantee of achieving autonomy beyond a supervised mode.
  2. Implications for Existing Customers: Those who purchased "Full Self-Driving Capability" (for between $8K and $16K) may feel that Tesla has changed the terms of what they were promised. The original offer implied that vehicles could eventually operate fully autonomously, while the new terminology implies perpetual supervision, which is a huge change from previous messaging.
  3. Potential Legal Reasons: This change may be a preemptive move by Tesla to avoid future legal liabilities. There are ongoing class action lawsuits against Tesla, with some alleging deceptive marketing practices for the FSD package. The relentless drumbeat of false promises drove demand and pumped stock prices. This enabled the funding of the development of an actually terrific car with a useful driver assist. Some argue that the planet is better off as a result of these fabrications. I'm conflicted. But I love our Tesla.

It probably wouldn't be the first time that there was a silver lining to fraud. Your Tesla could have been built sans the fraud.
