Leon Umsk to follow the pattern sounds weird, but then Elon can use the excuse that if he screws up under Trump, it was Leon's fault, not his.

In January 2016, Musk Tweeted "In ~2 years, summon should work anywhere connected by land & not blocked by borders, eg you're in LA and the car is in NY".

"Summon" is a function to be built into Tesla's "Full" Self Driving. It was intended to get the car to drive itself to its owner. Just in the last few days, Tesla got Summon working with some "slight limitations" 😂.
  • Summon is controlled by continuously holding down a button on the user's smart phone
  • The distance between phone and car must be no more than ~200 feet
  • The user must be able to watch the car at all times
  • It's only released to some "influencers" at this stage, not the general Tesla owner
Tesla has now changed the way it advertises and sells the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package. The changes are significant because they suggest a shift in the company's stance on its promises related to FSD capabilities:
  1. Text Changes on Tesla's Website: The term "Full Self-Driving Capability," which previously promised continuous improvement and the potential for future full autonomy, has been replaced with "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)." The revised description now omits any mention of continuous improvement or eventual unsupervised operation. Instead, it suggests that the features depend on "development and regulatory approval," with no guarantee of achieving autonomy beyond a supervised mode.
  2. Implications for Existing Customers: Those who purchased "Full Self-Driving Capability" (for between $8K and $16K) may feel that Tesla has changed the terms of what they were promised. The original offer implied that vehicles could eventually operate fully autonomously, while the new terminology implies perpetual supervision, which is a huge change from previous messaging.
  3. Potential Legal Reasons: This change may be a preemptive move by Tesla to avoid future legal liabilities. There are ongoing class action lawsuits against Tesla, with some alleging deceptive marketing practices for the FSD package. By altering the description and removing any concrete promises of full autonomy, Tesla might be attempting to protect itself from additional lawsuits or regulatory scrutiny.
  4. Broader Context: The changes come just before Tesla's upcoming Robotaxi event on 10/10, maybe suggesting that the company is preparing to offer different levels of autonomy for various customer segments. It could mean that "Full Self-Driving (Unsupervised)" may only be available to commercial customers or for specific robotaxi purposes, while regular customers will have to settle for "Supervised" versions. This makes sense because 5 years ago, Musk Tweeted "If we make all cars with FSD package self-driving, as planned, any such Tesla should be worth $100k to $200k, as utility increases from ~12 hours/week to ~60 hours/week". A tiered pricing structure coming?
The wording changes on Tesla's website suggest a significant shift. It appears to be moving away from the notion of achieving full, unsupervised autonomy for all Teslas in the near term and is instead emphasizing a "Supervised" FSD experience, possibly to align with regulatory realities and reduce potential legal exposure. This change might also pave the way for differentiated future offerings (like "Unsupervised" for robotaxis) while managing customer expectations and legal challenges.

lol, "we should have charged more so we're not giving it to you for what you paid for it". Not that they have it.

The relentless drumbeat of false promises drove demand and pumped stock prices. This enabled the funding of the development of an actually terrific car with a useful driver assist. Some argue that the planet is better off as a result of these fabrications. I'm conflicted. But I love our Tesla.

It probably wouldn't be the first time that there was a silver lining to fraud. Your Tesla could have been built sans the fraud.

Ah, so is Elon the "illegal immigrant who wants to rape American women" that the Republicans always talk about?
No, he's the man in the woods that women would prefer to come face to face with a bear to.

Think Tesla-kind may have just combusted spontaneously from that burn... And SpaceX rockets. Or did they do "rapid unscheduled disassembly by fire?" :sly:
