Italy 2 - 0 Georgia

Looking good for Scotland though, they seem to be playing with a hell of a good team spirit at the moment and it's doing wonders for them.

Right, forgot about the Georgia match, but I can't really see the Scots slipping up against them so...I reckon you're looking good to get there...a lot better than we are right now. Let's face it, we're in a far better position but switching off in the second half will cost us, especially if we think we're home and dry if we're some way up over Russia and/or Croatia by half time.

I was dissapointed with England yesterday, we won ofcourse but we didn't play well. The best goal of the game was the own goal headed in from the edge of the area. We should have taken this game as an opportuninty to boost out goal difference, instead we scored two, they scored one but in the wrong net and then we let them play. We wasted chances, we didn't play them off the park and the subs were wrong. McLaren will say it was for the bigger game against Russia, but we arn't playing with any kind of the team spirit Scotland are, McLaren probably can't get that out of us. I still don't rate McLaren as England manager, I don't rate him at all. The only positive thing about yesterdays match was that he left Barry on with Gerrard and didn't start Lampard.

They are plyaing really well but I fear that the group will still get the better of us... even though we lead the group and have beaten France home and away, we still need 4 points from the last two games to be sure of qualifying... we simply have to beat Georgia (on their own turf) AND must hold Italy to a draw - that's not going to be easy... Unless France slip up against Lithuania - which is highly unlikely - Italy will be playing for the win, because a draw with Scotland will see them go out..

It's a real shame since Scotland have done so brilliantly, but they have to keep performing and get that draw against Italy - however, a draw against Georgia would mean we'd have to beat Italy :ill:

My congratulations to Germany - the first team to qualify for the finals - and Luxembourg - on managing a competitive away win.

This is our best qualifying performance ever even if we don't make it.

We were the first team ever to get put out of the world cup group stages without losing a game. We were also the first team ever put out on goal difference at another world cup. If we don't make it, it'll just be typical of Scotland's luck.

Too true, but how sick are we of being 'unlucky'? We were unlucky to get the toughest group by a mile - but let's hope that we don't need to count on luck to get us those four points we need. Come Wednesday night, however, there will be a wee corner of Scotland that is forever Lithuania...

I'm not going to be like that pathetic lot of fans that have gone from praising England and Macca to wanting them all sacked again...but that is one hell of a kick in the balls... Though it was never a penalty...and Gerrard should've scored... Oh well all we can do his hope and beat Croatia.

Scotland 1-0 down after 16 minutes

Can't believe it. I think Russia will beat Israel in there last game. We have a tough game at Wembley against Croatia.

It's out of our hands now.

Scots 2-0 down now, good luck...gotta get that win against Italy now.

As for us, yeah...only thing we can do is 3 points against Croatia...

Looks like the real Scotland have escaped from their captors, and have turned up to play this game. They've been held captive all through the qualifying campaign.

IM SCOTTISH THATS IT
AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT

I'd guess the same people have been holding the real England - and specifically the real liability that is Wayne Rooney - for the last 5 games too.

All we have to do now is to beat Italy.

Nae bother....

Look on the bright side, at least if we don't qualify, McLaren will probably lose his job :dopey:.

True but you can't fault him for what he's done in tactics and selection over the past 5 games and tonight we could be considered unlucky in some respects.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Scotland does wins against us, we've been playing sooooo badly, I'm even mad that we're winning. (Literally of course)

What I wanna see from our national team, is new young players, the ones that are gonna keep putting our name between the big ones. Gatuso, Inzaghi, Toni, Pirlo, Buffon, and Cannavaro won't live forever...💡

And where's that StefanofromRome kid that always got hyper-hyped about Italy winning. :odd:

We do always play better against the better teams and when we're not expected to win, but I don't see us beating you. Although I did read somewhere that Italy have never beaten us at Hampden...

Tactics, yes, team selection, not really. Where were his tactics when he failed to change the team on Weds, until it was far too late. But McLaren is like an arse that needs wiping, and I've held this view long before he even got the England job. Moments like his smirk, as he announced that Backham wasn't in his squad ponly confirmed that. He's a back stabber, and talks a load of crock.

Well before the Russia game it was a good team, bringing in Barry and Heskey. Anyway, I'm not sticking up for him because I'd still much rather have a manager that would've gotten things right a lot sooner but nothing that can be done. We all know he won't be sacked if we don't qualify, why would the FA (an association that pays England players 150K even when they FAIL to qualify) spend money buying out his contract after a year.

Owen off injured after 35 minutes in this stupid pointless friendly. Finished 1-0...though I've forgotten the match itself already, so dull

The fact that they do throw money away is an argument for him being sacked and paid off, not against it. He's not good enough for the England job, simple as. He started to pick well when injuries forced his hand, but he's not someone I want to see in charge of England. I can't see him keeping his job if we don't qualify. The pressure the FA will be under to sack him will reall ymake it a no-brainer for them.

Sven wasn't exactly much better and look how long we had to put up with him. That said, I still hope we don't actually qualify. It'll be a reality check for the players and the FA (if the do sack him, they'll need one to realise what they need to look for in a manager)

Sven qualified for the competitions. Pretty big difference. If we don't qualify there is going to be a big noose around McLarens neck, and the FA are going to be given no choice but to pull the lever.

Not that I have anything to add to this thread, but I will be attending one of these games with my sister (probably in Austria). Hooray!!! :D. Long way to go until June...
