Ev0
Basically, the IX is an Evo VIII MR with updated styling. The IX doesn't get the 6-speed transmission though.......And another big thing is that the Evo will now be offered with, get this, an automatic transmission.
Wrong and wrong. Did you not read anything in that press release??? First off, they've had the GT-A model since the VII. So, the automatic isn't new. Sure, it doesn't fit the car that well, but they do sell. Not everyone needs the full-bore car. They can still have a great handling car, just without the hassle of the manual. Not my thing, but they obviously sell if they still offer it.
And next, while the XI doesn't seem that much different, there are many changes. For one, the car still DOES have the 6-speed. Thats not changing. The GSR still gets the 6-speed, its the RS and GT that get the older 5-speed. But the engine, thats where the changes are. The new engine now has MIVEC. That, much like VTEC or VVT-i and what not, will help with better power delivery and fuel economy at the same time. Since this is the first Evo with it, we'll have to see what benefit it has initially. But, you can't argue with what variable timing can do.
And, the outside looks just about as different as it should. Thats how the Evo's go. You had Evo 1-2-3 in the 1st gen chassis. Then the Evo 4-5-6 in the 2nd gen chassis. Followed by the Evo 7-8-9 in the new chassis. None of them in their respective chassis look too dramatically different from each other. Remember, its the EVOLUTION, not REVOLUTION. The nose is different, the grill, the wheels, the rear bumper, and the wing is now hollowed out. So yes, while not drastic, the changes should help that little bit more and getting air to go where it works best. I think it looks great. Especially the open grille area and the new rear bumper with diffuser. Looks nice. And with the new engine tuning and MIVEC, should be that little bit better performer as well.
