F1 Championship

I personally Bspec'd the F1 championship in order to hurriedly get the Sauber. I am going back to various races with various cars to see how high I can get my Aspec's and plan to do the same with the F1 races. They are just so long that between work 10 hours a day, wife and father duties, T-ball, Honey-doos, etc etc, it is rather difficult to set aside that kind of time. I am able to get in more varying racing with more circuits and more cars in the time it would take to run one 60 lap F1 race.

My F1 Bspec experience. At 8100 points, 83/79/80, my Bspec Bob was able to win 13 of 15, some by rather large margins. I also qualified 1st for him in each race. The superspeedway was the worst at 4th. At this short track and long pit lane he just couldn't compete with the AI pit schedule. I placed 3rd in another but cant remember which. It had sand and he wound up way off in it. I ran him at 4 90% of the time occassionally dropping him to 3, in most races. The lowest was at Laguna Seca which in all cars he drives there, the downhill sweep left after the corkscrew I have to tell him to slow down, the rest of the track at 4. Even all 4 at N'ring.

I left Formula GT until last. Then I A-Specced every race. My final prize was 3million in cash, the Sauber and the Black F1. Those were some of the best races on any GT, but with a bit of tactical pitting and pushing the car very hard, they were a bit easy. I'm not trying to brag or anything. They just weren't as much of a challenge as I was expecting.

it's not that hard of a championship to win. I B-Speced the whole thing with the red F1 I won at the Nurb. 24hrs. my B-Spec driver won every single race. I didn't play with the car's settings, JUST QUALIFIED HIM FOR FIRST PLACE AT EVERY RACE.

Exactly what i am doing and it is working great.

If you guys want a challenge, try to A-spec the whole series with TCS turned down to 1.
With a normal controller, it is almost impossible to race. I should get a steering wheel just so I can drive through the whole race!

I won't give up though. I am going to beat this series with TCS on 1. This would be just like the real F1 cars.

i shared the driving with my brother in this comp on his saved position. We did all of the races in A spec mode just changing drivers at each pit change and treating it as an enduro race. This relieved the boredom and made it more competitive to better each others laptimes. Now im planning to rerun it all again on my saved position ;)

try with formula gt or nissan r92cp (you may have to upgrade it a bit),if you use the r 92cp use super hard tires and you race in B-spec do not push hard use the third level (that's what i did) :)

Maybe this question was in some way already answered in previous posts, or maybe in annother thread, if so sorry about that.
I'm still no where near ready to start the Formula GT championship (havent got the F1 car yet) but I would just like to know if the Formula GT championship in GT4 is harder than it was in GT3.
In GT3 it was the last race I did and it was kind of a dissapointment. I expected the AI to be a lot better since everyone kept saying it was the hardest race of the game. I won every race with ease though, except Laguna Seca which I can never seem to get right, no matter what car I drive.
So what do you guys think, is it harder in GT4 than in GT3 or the same(I can't imagine it being easier).

Thanks for your opinion.

Just finished this behemoth of an A-Spec monster and I felt very satisfied at its completion!

Won every race with the exception of Nurburgring by at least 2 laps. I was always too relaxed at the beginning of races and this caused spin outs and off track adventures that generally took me until the first pitstop to recover. For the most part it was a walk in the park. The F1 was a blast to drive, and I wish the AI was able to match my average laps to make it a slugfest til the end. I was watching the Monaco Grand Prix yesterday and noticed that the fastest lap (Kimi Raikonen's 1:16.9xx) was slightly faster than mine (1:17.1xx).

I got destroyed at the 'Ring. The AI was being quite difficult to pass early on and this caused multiple off-track excursions that cost me way too much time. That coupled with the red tires in the last 1/3 of the 2nd lap ended my day in 6th place.

Perhaps in the future I'll re-try this in a Minolta or C9 Sauber.

 I hope you're NOT going to attempt it in ONE Day!!! It took me SIX Days to complete! (Real Days, NOT "Game Days") I did it all in A-Spec & thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. The Formula GT Ride just demands your Full & Complete attention is all! Good advice from NoQuarter but with a good set-up it's NOT much of a challenge. You'll win most by 5-7 Laps except for the "Ring. Too bad the "AI" isn't quicker! :indiff: ...O.G. :D
Can u give me some settings for the ring cuz i can't get out of sixth:eek:! Can u also give me some settings for tokyo cuz i finished in second .130 of a second behind:eek:!!

Don't try to pass all those suckers on the first lap. Just hang behind them closely. Get the feel of the track, conserve your tires and see if you can get one more lap from your tires than they can. That way you can get past them in one fell swoop. Tire conservation can be helped by using high TCS and high differential settings. You can usually get in and out of the pits faster than AI cars can by about 7-10 seconds.

I can't recommend any places to pass on the Ring except maybe the long back straight and pitting-time offsets. I used the Audi R8 against the F1 cars on the Ring and I jetted away from them down the long back straight and got pretty decent tire wire. From memory, it seems that there is always one rabbit F1 car that just blazes away from the rest. I think it smokes it's tires faster, too.

Try using a softer suspension and more ground clearance at the Ring. Gear yourself to get a high top speed down the long straight to gain some free time. Don't use too much downforce.

I found the F1 races pretty easy, but I wasn't aiming for max A-spec points at the time. Now I'm suffering trying to win all the F1 races with any LMP car I can and seem to have bitten off more than I can chew after winning maybe five or six races.

Well I don't have the s licence so i always have to b spec. I tried the Audi and it sucked. The next time i used the F1 and i won from the massive corner after the chicane.

I agree - it's a walk in the park - but it takes ages to do. I can only manage about 3 or 4 races a weekend. I'm getting there though, slowly but surely:yuck:

Sorry, I didn't realize you were talking B-spec. Of course the Audi wouldn't cut it in B-spec. My bad.

Another thing to consider in B-Spec mode is how much fuel you take on in pitstops. Monitor how much fuel gets used the first time it takes for your tyres to wear out and only take on enough each time to get you to the next pitstop. Or you can choose not to refuel every other time if a single tank will get your through two sets of tyres. This all depends on whether you are Pushing Hard to get in front early or whether you are trying to gain time by pitting less often through tyre conserving, Reduced pace driving. I'm not sure how much effect fuel weight has on overall lap times, but it's worth a thought, especially if you're close to finishing the race and another car is close behind you.

Alright, last night I tried this champ. in single races, to test (GVS and NY) with a Minolta, the fastest car I still have. Got smoked at both races...
I've seen a few people doing this series with this and some Group C cars, so it is possible. What's wrong with me??

I tought it was too much wheelspin, so I raised the TCS to 3, and then 5. Still no good. Installing a turbo only makes it worse! Then tried my second most powerfull car (jaguar race car), same thing.
I could only get some time in the straights.. but for the rest of the tracks, meh!

Can someone help me here? I searched and only found some reports on people doing it, but there have to be more on this..

Thanks!

I never have a problem winning B-Spec races with the default brake strength, ASM and TCS settings and gear ratio. Mostly I change the brake balance on road cars from [3-3] to [4-3] for a bit of extra oversteer, or for heavier, more understeering type cars to [6-4]. I try not to interfere with the car balance too much and always try to keep the brake balance as close to default as possible, especially the rear brakes. I always leave TCS on [5] for asphalt, for most of the high performace type cars you will be using to finish hard races, this is fine. If you're racing B-Spec, the main thing you need to set up right are the tyres. Always try to complete races without pitting in, making sure to use the softest one's possible to just finish without auto-pitting. Even if it tries to pit you in, turn it off and get another lap out of your tyres, then let it pit you in. If you need to make at least one pitstop, make sure you use the softest possible tyres to just get you to half way through the race, then just to the end. You can try using really soft tires for the first leg, to get ahead, then switch the hard tyres for the rest of the race after you pit in. I don't like mixing it up like that though, unless you really have trouble staying in touch with the lead car at the start of the race. I find that it seems to be a lot harder to catch up once the front car gets way ahead of you. It's not nearly as hard to stay in front of the car behind you once you take the lead, so try doing it earlier rather than later. This probably makes a difference also if the car behind is constantly pushing hard to get in front of you, wearing out its tires fast, requiring it to pit earlier, while you cruise along at Medium Pace and get better tyre economy. Always put one grade harder tyres on the back wheels. As far as setting your pace goes, I find that Pushing Hard at the start then settling back to Medium as soon as you get in first position works well. Otherwise start off with Medium Pace and get an extra lap or two out of your tyres, then pit in and gradually work your way into first position that way. Tyres make a big difference to long races, so I think you might want to review your tyre/pitting options if you are finding any races hard to win using a competetive car in the same category as the AI cars.

Alright, forget my last post! I tried again with my slightly used (1500+ km from GTWC, then NO oil change) Minolta at GVS. This time I tried the car without the monstruous turbo. :yuck:
Also did some set up:
Brake Balance of 3/2 - car handled easier under braking (especially at 3rd turn, the one before the hairpin) and I guess this also improved tyre longevity. 👍
Differentials: increased the Accel Diff to stop a bit the wheelspin. I was no longer oversteering for ever at some points, and also improving tyre life.
TCS: from 2 to 5... there was no other way... 👍
Gear reatios adjusted to be almost at red line on 6th at the main straight. 👍
Nothing done in the suspension, fearing I could screw teh balance. :nervous:

With this package, I won the race with a MOV 30 some seconds! And I raced like a noob, with many wall touches and off track excursions (of course, with help of our fellow robots, I mean, AI in the race :ouch: ).
Using R2/R1 I could now do two more laps than the other cars (only one before at max!), and using R3/R2 I had the same pit window as them, and marginally faster lap times.
I'm impressed that only a small difference in specs could do that much for a long race!

Now i'm comfident I can do it, so I'm off to win another brand new Minolta for the job :dopey:

I've decided to revive this thread to let my achievment be known.

I have finished this race series :D I know it's no big deal but to me it is because I put it off for well over 4.5 months and it was driving me mad. Left my PS2 on for 1.5 weeks and kept at it. Finally it overcame me and I let my B-Spec driver take over the lest 3 races and finished it this past Monday night EST. God I love the Sauber Mercedes. Fast car but draw back is, it has so much speed with only 5 gears :dunce: but great car all and all.

All I have to do now is do the Le Sarthe 24hr ( forget which one ) and then Mission 34 ( ) and I"ll have 100% :D

Prize car: Mercedes Sauber C9 '89
Do not radically adjust the brake settings. I went to 4/4 from 3/3 because I brake very late on turns.

Did you ever notice that when you set the brakes a bit too high the cars start to screech and slow down in enormous measures ?

This wasn't so in GT3. You used to adjust the brakes both to 24 full whack but the car used to brake normally. Now it dags its tyres as though the handbrake was pulled and it blocked all four wheels... :irked:

In GT3 the brake balance controller simply changed the ratio between front and rear brake force, but the brake for remained the same. So 3/3 and 24/24 are exactly the same in GT3.

In GT4 it works quite differently, the brake balance controller effects not just the ratio between the front and rear brakes, buit also the level of braking force applied.

If you set it too high then the tyres grip limit will be exceeded and the tyres should lock. However in GT4 what normally happens is that the ABS kicks in. True wheel lock under braking is very, very uncommon in GT4.

The GT4 and Brakes thread has a huge number of tests and pieces on all areas of braking, but the following is the most relevent to this discussion.

Setting the Brake Balance Controller - Click to view

The above can also be found in the first of my GT4 tuning guides, a link to which is in my sig; and the GT4 and Brakes thread can be found here (with links to all the tests and info in the first post).

I drove the championship in A spec mode and found it and kinda pointlessly long. 15 races is a bit to long for me. Plus the game can't drive the cars at all, at one point the five AI cars drove their selves in to the wall on the big staright at de la Sarthe 1.:dopey:

2-year BUMPAGE

I'm in the middle of the 8th race (at Seoul) and I'm disappointed with the difficulty of this series. I've had a ballast of 200kg, yet it's still far too easy. Although Monaco was great fun, because it's so tight, you have to focus. But it can be so boring on some of the less challenging tracks.

This could have been a great series were it a bit harder.

Blast from the past or what?

This series is easy. I won every race by laps, not seconds. That was in the F1 car.

I am currently running a stock Sauber C9 in this series. It's still easy. I won Tokyo by over 30 seconds, Grand Valley by over a minute and Le Mans by over two minutes. The latter two would have been laps with fewer mistakes.

At Monaco, I lapped one guy three times, and every other car twice, except the second placed car who was exiting Ste Devote (the first corner) as I was crossing the start-finish line to win the race. He was lapped only once. My next race is Seoul. Should be easy, I expect I can run in the 45s no problem.

Yeah, the C9 should make it easy - the FGTs being on medium tires make the pitting too frequent for them to pose much of a threat over a long race. If you want a somewhat bigger challenge (yet very achievable with practice), and 200 A-Spec points per race to boot, take a look through this thread. :)

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=87602

Yes, I'm sure there is a bigger challenge. But I enjoy driving the Sauber C9 so much! For me the challenge is, running as many consecutive laps of 1:17 as possible at Monaco, say.

Did you lower the down force aswell for 200 pointers or did you just add ballast?

I found the Mazda 787b a nice ride for this series for 200 Points each. Fuji was my closest with a MOV of 5 seconds (too many off course excursions from bumps and late braking) most of the others were well in advance of 45seconds though.
