How close is it to the actual city of Austin? It's a great city, really. Not your usual skyscrapers and whatnot, but a lot of great culture in the area. Specifically, it's one of the biggest music cities in America.

Most of the land around the circuit is privately-owned.

I hope it stays that way and never gets sold to urban developement or the track will start to get hit with stupid sound restrictions from the stupid people who moved near by the race track!

There's houses/farms around it now, I'm sure they told those people before they started planning what they could expect as far as noise goes.

GOT MY TICKETS

It's really gonna happen

Michelin isn't a race sponsor, are they? :dunce:

I don't see that as an issue, this isn't California. Although people move near small airports and still manage to get it closed down.

Never stops people. In my home town there is an outdoor karting facility that's large enough to run full size cars on. It's right next to the I-70 highway, and right under the flight path of the airport. But people still complain about the noise. :dunce:

So they have barriers built up around it and a 92db sound limit.

Looks like we're going to have quite a few GTPers in Austin for the race.

Just curious, how many of you are going to be in town on Thursday night? I know you've already got this topic going in the Local Gatherings forum, Wardez, but there may be more people watching this thread.

I be there with my family, like to meet folks on this site in person make the week even better.

I won't be there Thursday night. I hopefully will arrive early Friday morning though.

You know how people like to say, "I like to be a fly on the wall" in regards to being in certain rooms with certain things discussed? Well, I'd like to be a bird flying around Circuit of the Americas just to see all the action going on over in Austin. It's probably weird I'm saying this since I'm here in my hometown of Houston while all the action is going on in Austin. But really, I've mostly been looking around on Facebook and Twitter for updates and other nonsense regarding the action at COTA.

People... as a native Texan, I'm still feeling as surreal as crap that F1 is here in my home state on a brand-new, world class racing track. Last time I can recall F1 being here in Texas was on some street course in Dallas back in the 1980s (I believe). F1 back in the States. Got to love it, folks.

I think this is the thread to post in (seeing that the other thread is about the progress of the race itself). Anyway, my god do Formula One cars sound awesome in person. Standing next to the track while listening to all of them go by is amazing. Sure, you might go deaf, but what a way to go!

This is from 2011, but this is one NASCAR Champion's perspective on V8 Supercars due here in Austin next year:

End of first session out at COTA in the #9 Stevenson Motorsport Camaro GS.R, testing some improvements for next year. Incredible circuit, if a bit slick due to lack of cars running it yet. Car was literally rolled off trailer and driven, this is the result. The engineering team at Stevenson is really great and they're getting better and better at guessing what our needs will be.

Awesome stuff! Really looking forward to the 2013 racing at COTA, especially Grand-Am, ALMS, and V8 Supercars.
