Dogmeat is really useless towards the end. In the previous Fallouts, he'd die if your teammates get too trigger happy with a burst weapon.

He's useful early game since he can usually detect enemies before you can. His high DR helps as well, but not enough against Yao Guai and Sentry Bots armed with gatling lasers and rockets.

OK, I still have Cross and she's bugging me to death. Three shots, and she dies. She has 20 Stimpaks and never uses one of them!

I haven't let her go to the Citadel, yet. Too afraid I'll never get to use her again. So, what I do is just reload my save and tell her to wait, if she gets killed. I wish there was a way I could heal her, or whatever.

I'm still tying up Skill Book hunts, but most are now found in areas I've never been. I'm doing it without Cross 'cause she's too much of a damn hassle. Got Repair and Sneak up to 100, with aids, and I need just one more Lockpick book for 100.

I also need a Deathclaw to make the Gauntlet so I can earn my Weapons trophy. Best place to get one?

By killing a Deathclaw. ;) Most (if not all) drop 'em. A good place to look would be the Deathclaw Sanctuary:

Deathclaw_Sanctuary_loc.jpg

It's in the northwest of the map (use the map corner for reference)

The Endurance bobblehead (appropriately) can be found here. On Normal or higher difficulty USE THE DART GUN!!!! Crippling the legs of an enemy that can only melee you allows you to step back and unload on them. Super Mutant Behemoths anyone? :D

I was just farting around there, looking for Small Guns SBs! Never came across it. I should find it, no problem.

I have yet to build the Dart Gun. I should build at least one, since I have plenty of the materials to build one, or 10. But, I've been waiting to build one once I get all three schematics, but I don't know why, really.

I just built two Railway Rifles and it can have the condition boosted with repairs from the second one made, which gives me a higher DAMAGE level. I guess getting another schematic will do the same?

I just saw a thread on the Bethesda Software website about a patch having been released either late last night, or early this morning. The thread is titled Update 1.1. This thread was started by a new member to the community, and I looked around a bit and I couldn't find a more 'official' post on this matter. I know that many PS3 users got Update 1.1 sometime back in the middle of December. Has anyone playing this on the PS3 been prompted to download a new update yet?

No, I'm not getting an update notification. My Fallout 3 was updated back in December to v1.10. It still crashes from time to time. I don't notice the difference between v1.00 and v1.00 crash-wise.

On the upside, Moriarty has returned to his saloon!

I found a more official site posting the same information: New Fallout 3 Update Available for Download

On there, it specifically states that "PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 users with online connectivity will receive a notification of the update upon starting the game."

I know that PS3 players in some some areas around the world had not yet received Patch 1.1, and I suspect that those of us who have previously downloaded and installed Patch 1.1 that was released in December, probably have to delete the Fallout 3 Data from the Data Utility Folder before we will be prompted to install the new patch.

I posted a question about this on the Bethesda Game Studios Forums, and hopefully I will receive confirmation within a few hours or so. How big was the patch that we previously downloaded....I think that it was about 24mbs???? The new patch that is available for download to the PC is about 47mbs, so perhaps that is one way to tell if you got a different Patch 1.1.

Updated Information
I received the following response from Gstaff, one of the Community Managers for Bethesda Game Studios:

"Yeah, I just put that up. You should get a notice about the update. If you already updated in December, you won't receive another notification."
I posted that I was specifically looking for this fix: "Player no longer gets stuck in level up menu if their skills are maxed out"
He responded with this:
"You should already be set then if you got the previous update."

In response to another post in that same thread, Gstaff posted the following:
"This was covered last month, except effective today, users in France, Italy, Germany, and Spain receive the update as well.
To make it clear: PS3, PC, and Xbox 360 users should all now be covered by the v 1.1 update.

I know it is not mentioned, but does anyone know if this patch corrects the Springvale School Explosives skill book exploit?

Pepsi0, if it's of any consolation to you, I still ran into things I missed on the third playthrough for trophies. Like beating Butch and gang to a pulp before taking the GOAT. Or convincing Ronald Laren to hunt for Quantum in exchange for a threesome. Or training and equipping Big Town to fight a small guerilla war.

There's a ridiculous amount of stuff to do in the game. I thought one playthrough would be enough, but I started a new game on a whim and I just kept going. Give it a week. You may find yourself sucked back in if Fallout's humour is your kind of stuff.

Wha?

I already got the update (1.03 I think) a few weeks ago. Nothing new to me. I'm sure a new one is in the works, since Sydney's SMG glitch is still active.

I just started up the game and I find myself in a pickle. Two characters, one with robots and the other with ants, are arguing on a street. Neither poses a threat to me, so I should just leave them be? I haven't done the Human Gambit yet, and not sure what's the best thing to do at the moment.

I was starting to get bored with the game, but chalk that up to using only one weapon. I saw a Giant Radscorpion, Protectron, and two Raiders all fighting each other! Tossed in a 'nade for company and watched them all 'plode. 👍

I guess so, I'm just pissed off though.

The little boy in Canterbury Commons reminds me of Enzo from the show Reboot. The AntAgonizer reminds me of the episode with the Giant Null Monster. There's also a Dot's Diner there too.

Resolve it however you like. You may want to save though before doing so. The two villains are rather touchy with their speech options: if you piss one off, then that's the end of diplomacy.

Trying to find a YT video of the Springvale School Explosives Skill Book Glitch, if there's such a thing, and I came across this...

LMAO!

Gotta try that when I finally get to Tenpenny Tower.

I saw a different one where he compiled the best of his various frag mine exploits. I loved the part where Three Dog flies across the room.

Crap :ouch:. I typed "explosives" but meant "big guns"... sorry 'bout that.

You probably want the U.S. Army: 30 Handy Flamethrower Recipes, which is the book that raises your Big Guns Skill. You can find one as Loot on the Raider that is equipped with a Flamer, inside of the Bethesda Offices East Building. This Raider respawns with the book every 72 hours, and it still works on my game, even after I installed Patch 1.1 nearly a month ago.

I was not aware that there may be a similar exploit at the Springvale School.

Ah, the Big Guns in Bethesda Ruins, which I already know about. No problem. :)

Damn, Crazy Wolfgang is missing! I need him for the various good junk he finds! His Brahmin shows up and Canterbury Commons, but without him. Is he dead, or kidnapped?

Also, to further support he's dead, I went to the Enclave checkpoint South of Temple of Union and found Doc Hoff's ash pile and his dead Brahmin. I looted as much as I could, took his caps, his key and whatever else I could, but I prefer to have him alive.

I hope the Black Merchant, (forgot his name, but it's Hearty, or something) doesn't die. I have 700 caps invested in him and I enjoy the 80% repair rate. Already got my free Mini Nuke, so I'm happy.

Is there any way to protect these guys? Why are they dying on me?

I heard upgrading the caravans helped make them tougher, but that's about as much as you can do. As you level up, the wasteland critters get more and more deadly: those giant radscorpions and sentry bots weren't there at the beginning of the game. Doc Hoff probably got hit by a powerful laser of some sort, probably by a robot.

You might get lucky and see the caravanners reappear. I know I found Crazy Wolfgang's pack brahmin on its own, but eventually Wolfgang showed up outside Rivet City with the rest of his caravan.

That's what I'm hoping for because it really doesn't make sense to me to kill these guys. I understand it's in the Enclave's interest to kill them, but you can really depend on these guys and it's a big part of the game to buy new equipment, so I don't know why they killed them off. I don't know if other merchants can be killed, but why not? If other merchants can be killed, then why not all of them?

You can kill pretty much anybody in the game except children and main quest-related characters. It was a problem before the patch since important NPCs would fall through a crack in the floor and disappear, and blunder off a ledge or cliff and die.

I'm having a big problem right now. The game is glitching on me in a big way. It's like the strobe effect on your digital video recorders. I think I might have too much stored weapons and gear. That happened once before. My saves are becoming between 6 and 7GB! Gotta sell some stuff, but merchants don't have a lot of caps on them. Now with Doc and Wolfgang gone, it's getting harder to unload this stuff.

I have the following merchants:

Tulip
Moira
Crow
Hearty (?)
Adam (The Family)
Turk (Rivet City)

Whom am I forgetting?

Flak and Shrapnel for ammunition and repair supplies
Lucky Harith runs the weapon dealing caravan.

Jenny usually has 200 caps on her. I pay for my noodles with assault rifles.
Doc has 200 caps or so as well.

Something's not right with the giant save files unless you mean 6-7 MB. My save files average around 11 MB each. Are you other games working fine?

Exactly. Why I confused Bethesda for Springvale I can't rightly say... anyhoo it is good to know that exploit is still available. My apologies for the confusion.

Thanks Tig. As noted above I was all messed up.

7 GB?! My game completed save is just under 9 MB.

Can't you just sell it to them for nothing? I believe they'll take it even if they have no money. Kind of silly I know but it should reduce your inventory. Who knows, maybe they'll make money faster now that they have good items! 💡

Oops; meant MB.

Actually, I just spent about an hour taking all my stored weapons and apparel and used my 100% Repair skill to greatly shorten my inventory. Glitches are gone.

I like idea of leaving the merchants items for sale, but I noticed they usually get a certain item no matter what you buy or sell. For example, Flak usually gets Mini Nukes, and no other merchant does. I have 40 of them, BTW. It doesn't matter how much money you leave with them, either. Just take it all.

Flak and Shrapnel for ammunition and repair supplies

Yeah, for some reason I said Turk, instead of Flak. Also, The Family merchant is Karl and not Adam. Steeeeerike two...

I forgot to add Sydney to the list. Nobody else mentioned her either, I noticed. BTW, if she's still alive, and you have her pistol, sell it back to her, and enjoy the Infinite Ultra SMG glitch to your heart's content! I did it again and got another 120 of them! ;)

So, nobody else better than Shrapnel and Flak? I'm looking for Fat Mans, Mini Nukes, Sniper Rifles and Terrible Shotguns. A few "Blasters" that can repair my Alien Blaster wouldn't hurt either, if any exist.

Jenny usually has 200 caps on her. I pay for my noodles with assault rifles.
Doc has 200 caps or so as well.

Why bother to eat? Just go home and fix yourself up, or sleep!

Something's not right with the giant save files unless you mean 6-7 MB. My save files average around 11 MB each. Are you other games working fine?

I meant...

EDIT: I read the most powerful weapon in the game is the Experimental MIRV. I watched videos of it in action and notice it shoots one Mini Nuke, but multiple warheads fly out. Is that just ONE Mini Nuke, or is it EIGHT (I counted 8 in the video) Mini Nukes at once? If it is EIGHT at once, what happens if you only have THREE Mini Nukes left?

Yeah i thought the MIRV would be in Fort Constantine, where is it?
National Guard Depot---->National Guard Armory---->National Guard Bunker = Experimental MIRV Fatman. You need to find five special holotapes in order to be able to access the Bunker.
