Played a couple of hours of Forza with the new firmware. There does appear to be some improvement in sensitivity around the centre but the steering has lost a lot of weight, I'm not convinced I like it, I'll play with the Spring/Damper settings later.

Halfway between the feeling of 737 and this would be great.

Agreeing with this so far, i'm testing on GT5 at the moment. The sensitivity improvement is pretty subtle, still far to much play in the center of the wheel imo (using regular CSR).

737 seemed to have a lot stronger FFB, I am currently using max settings in game and on the wheel with this new firmware, before this update I was using 5-6 max in game and max on the wheel.

This could be a problem for a lot of people

Sounds like they have been busy reworking old firmware to keep older devices current. I am pleasantly surprised as I would have bet good money all their efforts would have been on CSW. Tip of the hat to Fanatec!

This work is directly applicable to the CSW. I expect they want real world testing of the firmware before they go live with it on the CSW.

Which isn't a bad thing. So I encourage anyone that is willing or able to help because he wants a CSW to definitely help out with the testing. The more input the better. Also those who don't want a CSW, but have older gear of course will benefit from testing things out since the Fanatec drivers are so called Universal drivers (used by all Fanatec gear).

The display features may not work unless you turn off User Account Control (UAC) in Windows. At least this was the case in earlier tests.

I'm using the CSR Elite with the new firmware, only tested it on Forza 4, so far so good.
Noticed a slight increase in FFB on some cars, and a slight decrease on others, managed to get a top 10 time on an auto cross event within 30 minutes, which in my mind is a true test of a wheels settings.
My only concern is that the fan is barely running when switched on, I hope this won't be a problem with over heating.

I updated by Turbo S but wheel seems to have directional button down pressed constantly. Firmware displays fine when you press lower 4 buttons. I can not also get it to PS3 but I think that is because directional button down is pressed constantly. I will try to update again to see if problem goes away.

Edit: works fine with PC but in PS3 directional button down is pressed(goes down automatically in X-media bar) and can not get it to PS3 mode. Wheel does not even give quick FFB jolt when putting PC mode on with PS3(with windows PC, wheel does the quick jolt)

My PS3 is slim 320 Gb PAL unit

I also noticed that turbo S firmware is different size than GT3RS. Should it be the same?

Edit: I flashed back to 681 so that GT5 works.

I haven't tested the wheel yet, but i also noticed the very very slow fan speed.

The main thing for me will be how the CSR Elite will perform on the Xbox360 after this update.
When i get the CSW, i will use the CSR Elite for the xbox only and the CSW for PC and PS3.

I had the problem with the directional button as well but it was happening in PC mode, as soon as I changed it to PS3 mode it was fine (using CSR)

My CSR Elite is waiting for me at the post office. I can't pick it up until 5pm so I unmount my G25 and drill new holes in my wheelstandpro. I think I will drive a little bit with the current firmware before trying the 742 in order to feel differences.

It is a Nice Day !!!

Anyone else notice the fan doesn't stay on constantly when not in auto mode? Few people reporting the same on Thomas Blog.

For forza, it feels very similar to 737, better feeling in the centre though.
I tried a few cars from C class to R2, seems to be a wider range of FFB effects I think, some cars felt more subtle, early days.
SPR & DPR now have a bigger range, +4 to -4 then off, so more to play with.

Tried 742 on my Elite with Forza and went back to 721 after 40 mins. It feels dead at center with very little FFB strength in the first 5-10 degrees right or left. I felt like i was fighting to control my car due to the center feel. There does seem to be a little wider range of FFB effects which is nice. My prime reason for dumping it though was disconnects. In my 40 minute span my wheel locked left and completely lost center during hot lapping which required a wheel reboot. After the 3rd time that was enough. I had that issue randomly when I tested 737 as well. Never once had that problem with 721.

If you didn't like the center feel with 737 then don't bother trying 742......you won't like it.

Not liking the fan thing either. The fan spins VERY slowly while set to "ON" and even after a constant session my fan never seemed to speed up as the wheel got warm.....nothing 721 would do when set to auto

For Thomas (I know you are watching)

Summary of issues found by GTPlanet members:

PC:
GTP_Plato - CSR Wheel - General: DRI 3 causes oscilation issues
PzR Slim - ? Wheel - General: Fan keeps idlying even when the wheel gets warmer, causes concerns

PS3:
GTP_Plato - CSR Wheel - GT5: Too much center FFB deadzone
GTP_Plato - CSR Wheel - GT5: Weak FFB. in-game setting: was 5-6, now 10
Raitziger - Turbo S Wheel - General: PC Mode - the wheel keeps scrolling down in the XMB and other apps/games. Issue: D-Pad Down is ascociated with an axis instead of the D-Pad down button on the wheel.
GTP_Plato - CSR Wheel - General: PC Mode - scrolling down issue (see Raitziger above)
Raitziger - Turbo S Wheel - General: Refuses to go into PS3 mode when hooked to PS3 Slim 320GB PAL

360:
drugstorecowboy - ? Wheel - FM4: Noticeable loss of wheel weight
Richvw - CSR Elite Wheel - General/FM4: Fan keeps idlying while wheel gets hotter, causes concerns
thehawk05 - CSR Elite Wheel - General/FM4: As Richvw... fan keeps idlying even when set to "ON". After a constant session, fan does NOT speed up even though the wheel got warm.
thehawk05 - CSR Elite Wheel - FM4: Large FFB deadzone (5-10 degrees left and right) or very little FFB at the center
thehawk05 - CSR Elite Wheel - General: Many disconnects - Within a time of 40min it happend 3 times: at disconnect wheel locks to the left, lost center.

Ok this is my first laps with my CSR Elite. I am quite happy with the feeling, the wheel says a lot more about the road than my G25. But what an horrible rim !!! It really hurts my fingers, I can feel the two pieces of plastic. I think I will have to buy gloves until I change the rim.

So Thomas, is it safe to use the CSRE wheel on FW742 (fan issue), or would you recommend to go back to an earlier FW.

I cannot say anything at the moment as we need to reproduce all issues. It is safe to say that you should not use there wheel if it gets warm and there is no fan working at all.

Ok, I will keep a close eye on it, everything else feels fine, thanks.

I'm having the same problem on my GT2. It won't go into PS3 mode because the d-pad is constantly pressed down. Mine also won't go into xbox mode. And also it doesn't ever show that it is in PC mode, it gives no FFB oscillation to show that it is in PC mode. So pretty much the wheel was unusable. I just flashed the old 681 firmware back on so that I could continue to use the wheel until fanatec comes up with a fix.

I know that you knew ;)

Thanks for the great summary!

No problem. I had the time since we lost to you guys anyway (European Champship Football/Soccer) , and fully deserved the win. Hopeless 'team'... the dutch. Or rather, they aren't a team at all.

Anyway, hope this will make it a bit easier for the devs and you. This way you can just look up the usernames and PM them if you desire to further explain things if needed.

But what an horrible rim !!! It really hurts my fingers, I can feel the two pieces of plastic.

Still cannot believe that was incorporated into the design of a $500+ wheel.
Perhaps Fanatec will offer a similar design versatile wheel rim without sandwich-style construction some day.

Ok then it is not just my wheel. I also flashed back to 681 until issue is solved.

There is allegedly an issue with wireless wheels in FM4 after the recent console (not game) update some people have received. Some people with both MS and Fanatec wireless wheels are reporting various problems such as lack of ffb, weak ffb, game only showing 270 when wheel is set to 900 degrees. This is happening with Fanatecs wheels that have and have not updated to the new firmware. Some of the issue being reported with the new firmware could be linked to that. Some are reporting that altering the wheel settings within FM4 have solved the issue.
