GMT is Greenwich Mean Time. Greenwich is a district of South London. Central Europe (or the main land including: Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, etc) is one hour ahead of Greenwich. So that makes GMT+1. However, since we are in Summer and have something like Summertime we shift the clock one hour forward, which makes it GMT+2.

I wish people would just stick to one timezone system in the world and get rid of summer time. It would make it a lot easier to grasp for everyone.

I know all the GMT time zone stuff, what's confusing is one statement says 12.00 CEST yet another says 12.00 GMT/UTC +2 hours.

I'll just keep checking round about 11.00 here in he UK as that's the same as 12.00 CEST.

12.00 CEST and 12.00 GMT/UTC + 2 are the same time. Its two different ways of saying the exact same thing.
 
Actually it can be complicated if country has summer time like we do in Finland. We are too GMT +2 but because we have summer time, clock is now 12:13 here but only 11:13 in Germany :D
 
Yeah same thing with the US and "daylight savings time." Depending on the time of year it can be + or - one hour from the normal relation to GMT.

That's what's confusing me. On the holding page it says 12.00 GMT/UTC. If its 12.00 CEST then why does it have the GMT/UTC bit before hand, that surely should be after!?

yes...the site doesn't go live at 12.00 German time..it goes live at 12.00 UTC/GMT which is currently now just after 10.00 ;) so it's 2 hours away.

You are incorrect, I received an email this morning from Fanatec advising me to change my PW from the old site for the new site, otherwise login to new site will not be possible. Verbatim copy & paste from Fanatec's email:

"We are very excited to announce the launch of our website on the 6th of July at 12.00pm UTC/GMT +2 hours (CEST)."

lol...but it is not 12.00pm UTC/GMT yet..it's only just gone 10.00 UTC/GMT :s

I think the confusion is how they worded it.
I'm reading it as live at 12.00pm UTC/GMT or +2 CEST which would be in 2 hours.

Maybe it's a ploy incase they miss the launch again and it gives them a couple more hours ;)

I think they are having problems and intended to start at 12pm german time because if you notice the place holder that advertised the opening disappeared about 16 min ago.

I know there was a plus 2hours in your text.
I'm fairly sure that means 2 hours on top of UTC/GMT, hence 12.00 noon GMT = 14.00 in Germany (CEST).

Back to the time confusion, remember Fanatec is in Germany, so that is their point of reference when referring to the 12:00 PM time, if you are located in UK, I can see the 14:00 time interpretation.
 
Wow, I never thought I would get so much hate mail for my contest entry. I've received like 10 different messages directly to me saying that I'm a cheater and don't deserve to win. I guess generosity is equal to cheating. I'll never understand some people.
