From Thomas' Blog

UPDATE

We fixed the server issue. It was a wrong setting. No idea why this was not a problem yesterday. But now there is a new problem in the database which is showing existing customers in EU prices without VAT.

The problem occured during the import of the database and only on some of the customers so we were not able to detect it in our testing before the launch and even in the initial tests after the import. In fact the server crash down gave us more time so we were lucky to find it.

This is agiin not a satisfying situation but we will bring this website oline today. Whatever it takes!

So this is not actually the case then from Fanatec site:

Server overload
Due to a huge amount of inquiries for our new website, the server is overloaded.
Please check back at a later point.

I think they posted that just to get some kind of message out there when they first experienced the problem. Now that they've done the research and found the problem, they provided that update.

Gotta feel bad for Thomas, kinda like the Bride not turning up on time.

lol..dont feel bad for them mate. They want to charge £1000 for a wheel/pedal set yet these 'hiccups' ooze cheap IT/hosting and give the wrong impression to potential customers.

Some webhosting issues don't change my impression of the products they sell, not even a little bit.

^^^If anyone is interested in.....

Have to be Premium to sell in designated space, I would try to reword the post so that it is as indirect about the subject as possible because the mods will be on you like stink on dung in no time.

Exactly, so I know they make high quality products. I just don't understand what website problems have to do with the products being sold.

I didn't say it had anything to do with it, I said it gives the wrong impression, which it does.
From an IT point of view, we were told the website is going offline for a few days to prepare/migrate to the new site. If that was the case, what were the IT people doing for the last few days? :D

I don't have a problem with it, I just may get nervous paying £1000 for a CSW setup by paypal and feeling reassured it will go smoothly ;) and I'm an existing customer.

It really doesn't ooze confidence in potential new customers IMO.

Well, true, I haven't had any negative experiences with them, and I've experienced 4 different wheels and 3 sets of pedals over a number of years. No problems so far, maybe I've been lucky. I feel sorry for you ladies and gentlemen who have had problems, but I think that there are fewer problems with Fanatec products than the internet makes it appear.

"The vocal minority" as they call it has given people the idea that a large pecentage of Fanatec products break in a short amount of time, but I don't think that's true.

I am on GT3 number 5, three have failed for different reasons and been warranty replaced, one replacement was delivered defective. That does not include the Carrera wheel 888 failure 2 weeks after purchase or other experiences I will refrain from sharing here. And I am not alone, have personally spoken to people with similar experiences, some have stayed loyal, some have not, and its not internet lore.

...but I am still here.

There not though.

12.00 CEST IS 12.00 German time.

12.00 GMT/UTC +2 is 14.00 German time.

No...
CEST and GMT+2 are the same thing. Its saying that CEST is two hours later than GMT. When GMT is at 10.00, CEST is at 12.

They are writing it two different ways for convenience, because putting the GMT+2 allows people to easily convert into their own time zone.

I think the whole time we have been waiting for the release has frazzled our heads, that and how confusing time zones can get.

I know CEST is the same as GMT +2, I have not once questioned this. I only quoted you post as you said;

12.00 CEST and 12.00 GMT/UTC + 2 are the same time. Its two different ways of saying the exact same thing.

Which they are not. 12.00 CEST is actually 10.00 GMT/UTC and 12.00 GMT/UTC is 14.00 CEST.

What my original question was, which is irrelevant due to the delay (again! I'm still waiting patiently though), was at what time should the site go live.

Thomas said earlier in the week that it would be 12.00 German time on the Thursday, which we all know is 10.00 GMT/UTC +2. Yet on Thursday after the first delay the time was stated to be 12.00 GMT/UTC +2 (CEST) on the Friday to which I read it that it'll be going live at 14.00 CEST, 13.00 UK time and 12.00 GMT/UTC

*Edit - having just drunk a large cup of coffee I can see where this confusion has come from. If the time was posted in a way to resemble = '12.00 (GMT/UTC +2) CEST' then I (and afew others?) would've read it as 12.00 CEST. As it was written '12.00 GMT/UTC +2 (CEST)' I read it as though it would be 14.00 CEST.

Last rant for today say 5,000 people were to want to buy the wheel today that would be 4 million dollars...or say 150,000 views per month so a web site that gets 500,000 views a month = 16,666 views per day 80 million views=2,666,666 views per day What kind of server would it take to manage 5000 views vs 2,666,666 views. IF I lost 4 million dollars due to a crummy server/file manager...heads would be rolling. If the website truely was crashed due to overload.....I mean 5,000 views is not that much if you are spliting the server for US and Euro say 2500 sales each.....no time to be cheap hire some better guys to run the boat....just saying..you have spent the money now it is time to pull it back. I know you have 2 sales waiting.....2 hours remain in your day qoute: This is agin not a satisfying situation but we will bring this website oline today. Whatever it takes! end qoute

fanatec going to change its name to fanalate lol

when they announce csw for last december, that would mean waiting over a year
when they announce worst case at april, that would mean waiting for months
when they announce new website up for today, that would mean wait for days

JOKE

IMO, i would predict new website works at 100% after week-end, like mostly between monday and wednesday
i am pretty sure tonight they wont fix it
