It also shows that they have a modular system coming, interchangeable buttons and probably rims (only fixed with 3 bolts)...

The shifters are different on "todays" rim, they are longer than the ones on the "previous" rim (where they resemble the ones on the current F1CSW rim) - so shifters are also part of the interchangeability

And it seems front buttons can be added to great extent and they have to be somehow synchronized with the "function box" behind, because position of the buttons on the function box is insane.

...because position of the buttons on the function box is insane.

I dont think it's a problem as I assume it is only for menu/system navigation on maybe PS4. I remember it was always a pain on PS3 having to use a controller for something or setting up my settings when I wanted to race with a wheel.

That's interesting, when he says :

"Direct drive is the way to go and it should be no problem for us to offer a wheel which offers better functionality at a lower price. But it will still be significantly above the CSW."

is he comparing a price to the upcoming Accuforce wheel?

I seem to remember that the Accuforce wheel will be priced below 2000 USD.

I have pretty much decided not to get the CSW due to the motorissues I have been hearing about and I set my eyes on T500RS or possibly the TX, but then last week I read about the Accuforce for the first time and now this, scratches head.

Yeah I would assume he's comparing the price to the new accuforce wheel. With that wheel like you said being around $2k and him saying its going to be cheaper than the others, but "significantly above" the csw I would assume its likely going to be in the $1k-$1500 price range. The positive I see out of it is the way the wheel rims will be compatible for all the bases. I would also assume the base they are working on under the CSW will likely be for consoles and then the one over the CSW being the servo motor direct drive wheel will probably be for PC only. Of course this is all speculation ready for some type of official announcement.

Project cars profits???

Off topic but I will answer.

Yeah, depending on sales and our membership level we get dips in the profits. The percentage differs per platform.
Hence SMS got into trouble with the financial watchdogs in the UK, as it wasn't clear to them how it all was setup. If the people were investors or just pledgers.

Well, I can officially say we are investors in the project because we get dips in the profits. Next to that we get access to WMD, SMS their virtual office, that we visit as investors and help them come to a better end result. With all the perks you saw on their website long ago.
Basically instead of EA giving money and the assignment to make something, we the people now help to make the game a possibility. Discuss to make it improve, and like EA we now all get dips in the profits... albeit with different return ratios I an sure. Cause I think EA got more moneys from Shift sales than SMS.

My guess is Fanatec is making wheel rim bases (that can fit multiple accessories).

The back part with all the PlayStation based buttons is the wheel rim base. Each cluster of 3 buttons slots into a port on the base (Like amar said, they probably can control the crazily placed PS themed buttons). I bet we will see more than just buttons, maybe dials and knobs. Just like we have now, the paddle shifters are changeable. I am also going to guess that the wheel rims themselves are swappable and Fanatec will sell replacement rims for the new CS Wheel Rim Base. Other accessories will include that smart phone mount and hopefully the static shifters we saw in the CSW manual.

Finally, there is no way on God's green earth that Fanatec is making a wheel, at this stage in the console life cycle, with PS buttons, that only works on the PS3. This leads me to believe that Fanatec wheels will work on the PS4... just that they MAY require these new rims and or... like we have already heard, compatibility is on a game by game basis.

The number one reason for this? Fanatec has MUCH better economies of scale.

Looks like their small factory is in full flow making new products and it seems a bad news for current products, because under CSS it shows availability at the end of september at the moment.

3 months wait on a CSS!! I have been waiting on ordering one until they sorted out some issues with my BMW rim and wheel base and now their actually fixing it and the availability jumps from days to months! How frustrating

Let's see, there was batch dated to the end of may. It may still be possible to get one this month, who knows. I haven't ordered mine yet too, thought maybe in june, september is not good.

These modular packs seem really good. Can add or remove buttons. So, put whatever rim you like on it, add buttons if you like. Shifter paddles also included. What else could you want.

Really like the idea of the smartphone holder, but i'm not sure if i can trust Fanatec with my new smartphone and being sure it doesn't fall off the wheel.

I think i will stay with my own phoneholder dashboard solution :) (see my topic)

This new wheelrim seemst to have the same bolt pattern as the previous ones :

If you look close at those pictures though they are not in same location. The flat top and bottom rim is mounted lower on the "rim base?" than the flat bottom rim. You can also see some unused holes in the top pic. So there would have to be it seems 2 sets of mounting holes if they are interchangeable, but than it would seem that the top rim base is missing the top center mounting hole.

You probably wanted to play Forza on xbox360? It would be the only reason to prefer elite over csw. I don't see that game being worth wasting lot's of money, but it seems other do.

Yeah, I had enjoyed a lot of FM3 and FM4 races... And the CSR Elite was a little bit less expensive than a Clusport Base + BMW Wheel.

But now I am afraid that is not the best choice I have done ;)

The CSR Elite is still a great wheel though. In some ways even better than the CSW. The rim is way lighter thus gives better FFB effects. You can always sell your wheel. They sell for pretty good prices used.

I sold mine (after enjoying it for almost for 2 years) for € 65,- under the price of a new CSR Elite.
Which is pretty good i think.

The Phone mount is just an Otterbox Belt clip, Not likely the Phone will become "un clipped"

The Other pic with the phone appears to have the phone just resting on the button's, Doesn't look like its got an actual mount per say.
