I think its very close to the real GT car even though its not a 100% the same. Which is good because the layout will work well with all GT Cars and probably be perfect for driving road cars / other classes as well.

Why all the big fuss, the new T500 Ferrari wheel looks identical and half the buttons / rotary switches doent work. It would bother me more if the wheel was identical to its real life counter part but it didnt have all the same functions.

Also the F1 rim doesnt look 100% like any particular F1 Car either. But its the perfect layout for that style of car. Also the F1 rim looks like the MP4-12C GT3 Car!!!!!!!

EDIT:

The car in the video isn't the M3 GT2 btw. It's the 320Si which has a steering wheel like this:

Much closer to the GT rim for the CSW.
Good Catch Sir, that explains why the driver used the manual gear shift vs the paddles
👍

Hey BK :)
The fanatec formula rim is a formula rim not an F1 rim... that is another rim in the future...
Also which rim will you use for LMP's i'm undecided LOL :D..

It may not be the M3 wheel 100% but they are correct that it is no toy. They did show it go from the car to the sim rig.

My thoughts exactly. I think the word real is used in the way if, use it in a real car and in your rig. Not real as in 1-1 replica.

I'm pretty sure the wheel wasn't actually used to drive the car in that video. The spline joint in the car looked very different. I think the point is that Fanatec built the wheel to the same quality.

yes their was definitely a switch over as the normal quick release wouldn't fit

Oh, I guess I didn't watch closely enough. I thought it sort of made sense that they would have used the race car spec for mounting since it has to be well designed already.

Why reinvent the whe... ok, I yield :)

i noticed the teeth on the steering rod too, made me get suspicious but believed it because they didnt make it out to be not driving the car in the vid. i thought they must be some toothed female grooves on the gt wheel only because i didnt see any on the formula rim.

the impression i got from the vid is that where ever bmw get their m3 gt wheels made from fanatec get theirs from the same place....but now giving it some more thought remember the pics thomas took from china was it of the csw and gt rim being made, well surely bmw dont get their wheels made in china right??? or do they?

if what you say is true then fanatec really need to take a hard look at how they advertise their stuff.

Well the vid certainly leads you to believe that he swapped it straight from the car to the sim rig...

Not cool, even if the wheel is awesome.

It's usually our women that care to get on us about our sim racing gear being toys. A high quality replica, while not fully looking or being real is fine as long as it works well in game. It's not us Mr.T needs to convince, it's them.

I don't think its that misleading TBH... just clever avertising... If thrustmaster do a ferrari F1 rim ad it will be pretty similar IMO

Well they did not claim it was from the actual car though. More like making a replica.
Which is the complete opposite of the PR way Fanatec has went.

BMW wheel looks like very nice!
Just one quick question: buttons are functionnal in real car? For example can we use analog mini-stick to look around in cockpit of real car  ?
Of course I joke :sly:

From my visit to the BMW factory in Spartanburg South Carolina they get many of the parts for suppliers around the world and then assemble all the medium to large size pieces in the factory. It is unlikely that BMW racing wheels are made in the exact same factory the Fanatec wheels are, but it very possible they are made in China. Almost no car you buy is 100% made in the country it is from, or even the continent. Made in "insert country here" usually means the final product is assembled in that country.

Hampus- why you so caught up on the way they advertised it. Were you going to buy a Fanatec wheel and a BMW and try to swap it out? Fanatec has stepped up the Sim wheel game to another level with this wheel. I could care less how it was advertised in the video. Will it play with ps3? Yes. Will it play on the PC? Yes. At the end of the day that is all that matters, not if it's a exact replica of a real wheel. Move on.

Well because as a BMW fan i would really want a replica of the real M3 GT2 wheel.
Now we get a similar wheel that´s advertised as the M3 GT2 wheel.

Just as a fan i personally feels it´s a bit cheap to advertise it as the real thing from the car.

With that said, this is probably the closest i will get to a M3 GT2 and if the price is right i might consider buying a quick release and this for my T500 or just go balls to the wall and order an Elite.

@hampus-dh

So you basically wouldn't mind abandoning tuning menu, rev lights and analog stick and d-pad/decoder just to get the exact thing?

As this wheel rim is licensed by BMW then it is good enough to be called M3 GT2 wheel rim.

Yes i would. I would honestly have the exact same wheel as in the real car.
The display could have been made integrated on the wheel itself and not the rim.

Last part makes no sense at all.

Okay Thomas, now just explain me this:

How can I justify buying BOTH CSR Elite and CSS wheel to myself?

Leave my girlfriend out of this - she already thinks I am not normal when she count the investment made in my Racing Room - but I really have to find a reasonable explanation for myself because I really can't have 3 parallel rigs in one room :)

Great job BTW - I hope some version of this rim will be available for the CSR Elite model 👍

I kind of agree with you hampus, BUT, this being what it is, a computer gaming device, that still was able to plug into the car itself then be used as a rim for the CSW was, well, great marketing and advertising.

It is 95% comparable to the real thing. For me though, I am personally waiting on more rims next year before I purchase my CSW. I am more into the Nascar / napcar, however you may perceive it to be series. The BMW rim is close, but I still am holding out for a Momo / sparco 350-380mm rim, fingers crossed of course.

Yes I feel I have to compromise again..
how about a Forza Wheel for the CSS wheel that allows it to be used on the XBOX..

Is this possible Thomas..?

Many of us enjoy three platforms on one Rig, and we have to settle for the CSR Elite just because we play XBOX as well :ill:

Go on Thomas you know you want to :) :)

Fanatec...

That is one great looking product, this combo (GT Wheel Rim and CSW Unit) looks like a sure winner to me.

The only thing that I would have loved to see on the wheel is a Yellow or Red 12 O'clock Marker, but I guess you want to keep it as close to the original as possible, but that would have been nice.

One question that I do have: On the Logitech G27 the Rev Lights work in GT5 and NFS Shift 2, will the Rev Lights on this wheel work automatically also without modification from the game makers or would that require coding on their end?

You should open up Pre-Orders Now, I want one, I would love to order and forget knowing that I will receive it when the first units go out the door!!
