My third DD+ base arrived today. It came with 2.0.1.4 (455) for the base and 1.1.0.3 for the WQR. This time the base serial number matched the serial number on the box (first replacement base was mismatched). After a quick test in GT7 I went ahead and updated it to 462. I was only able to do an hour in GT7 but so far this base looks promising. There’s no coil whine, and the handbrake input on the calibration screen is stable and isn’t jumping like in my previous base. Using PirovacBoy’s settings, it also doesn’t do the shaking when the wheel is centered - not sure if it has something to do with the latest GT7 update or the 462 firmware but my previous two bases had the shaking. After 6 1/2 weeks of being away, WOW! I had a big smile the moment entered the first turn and that smile lasted throughout the race :)
I wonder if they sent you my first base for your second base. LOL. We should compare serial numbers. My 1st base I sent back had that problem with hand brake and slight coil whine. 🤔 LOL I'm joking, they wouldn't do that... would they? naw.... I did have my first base working perfectly besides that though, they just wanted it back to test it because I did have disconnected on earlier FW versions, and I told them that. Then when they tested my base they couldn't reproduce the disconnects, but I told them it wasn't doing that after the FW combos I had on there at the time. It's like they forgot why they wanted it in the first place, or something was lost in translation. My new base is perfect as far as I can tell.

1st OG base.. Base S/N: GR014013560 Handbrake jumpy

2nd base. Handbrake smooth

That proves there was a hardware problem in the base because nothing else changed. Just thought it was interesting. They never acknowledged the hand brake issue even after I repeatedly inquired about it. 🤷‍♂️

@BWX

My first base from the Extreme bundle had serial GR49300xxxx. I wasn’t able to check if if had a jumpy handbrake but it was smooth and quiet. The first replacement base had serial GR44300xxxx and arrived in the a retail EU box but in a plain shipping box. It appeared new but serials did not match (GR41300xxxx on the box). It came with 455 for the base and 1.1.0.3 which I immediately updated to 2.1.0.3. I logged 15 1/2 hours of racing time with it and only had 3 instances of freezing. But it did have cool whine and the jumpy handbrake. I took a weeklong break and when I wanted to use it again, it was bricked.

This second replacement has a serial of GR01400xxxx and has matching serials on both the retail box and shipping box. It’s definitely new and I went ahead and updated it to 462 just to rule out any hardware faults. They are pretty confident that the disconnection issue is fixed and have mentioned that if you still get disconnections/freezes then it probably is a hardware issue although they said the same thing when 457 was released LOL. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be smooth sailing from here on out

Yeah I think they figured the disconnect problems out this time for good, which is great. 🤞 Glad you got a brand new unit too. I think my replacement was new, it came in a CS DD+ EU box and was shipped from Germany I think, and also had the wrong EU type cord but they sent me a US type cord afterward when I told them. So I guess technically I have CS DD+ base and Extreme wheel. Haha. I did request to have original box back so if I ever resell my Extreme that I would have the OG box, and they agreed to that before I sent it out. But I never got the box back. It wasn't really worth the trouble so I didn't follow up on it. I still have every wheel I ever bought, or else I threw them away because they were worn out, so I'll probably never sell it anyways- but who knows.

My replacement base was the same deal. It was a new EU spec, that came direct from Germany. You could tell they loaded the hotfix to the WQR (which is now part of 462) and left the base with 455. Base and box had matching serial numbers. When I shipped my original base back to them, I kept the US spec power cord and shipped the EU one back with my original PSU. Knock on wood, the EU replacement has been SOLID!

I'm sending in my Clubsport DD+ Extreme wheel base so they can repair the coil whine that I have. I purchased this set in March of this year and just got around to send it in to them for repair. I contacted Fanatec support on Thursday, October 10th, and received the FedEx return label this morning. I'm hoping that they can repair this wheel base quickly so I can get back to my sim rig. Hopefully I don't have the same issue where I have to send the replacement/repaired wheel base back to them for a third time.

I wonder if they'll just send you a new wheel base. But either way I think they have figured out all the issues now, you'll probably get a perfect base in return.

I'll double check the serial number and let you know when I get it back.

Wooo-hoooo. Just ordered my new Extreme, should be here Monday. Will go along with my new Trak Racer RS6. Coming from a Thrustmaster 300. I'm assuming first thing I do is update everything?
I would highly suggest you to first try it without updating anything.
If it works out of the box, there is no particular reason to update anything.
As always it's up to you, but personally I have and will keep everything as it is.
If it works out of the box just leave it as it is... my honest suggestion.
Enjoy your new toy
Have fun 😉👍

agree w @PirovacBoy - with the current state of Fanatec SW, ONLY update if you have an issue or need some new feature - if its working for you as is, stick w it. Let any new update posted sit for a while and see what the reaction is over on the Fanatec Forums

For whatever it's worth, I haven't touched the firmware on my DD-Pro in over a year. I haven't not experienced any disconnect issues in quite some time either... Makes me wonder if the problem was on PD's side and quite honestly, I would not be surprised if that is the case.

It's more likely a both situation. You have an older firmware, PD added in an update that checked with the firmware if a feature is supported. Your version says Nope, Newer versions say Yep. Newer versions firmware also had a bug, so PD update started using it, and then using it uncovered a Fanatec firmware issue, requiring a new firmware fix.

Now if Fanatec provided a way to remap internally the buttons so MFD and brake and throttle could mimic X Y A B, etc in UI/menus...
Still should be able to slow down replays with the brake, and speed them up with the throttle, like how is this not obvious AF.

I appreciate the clarification, thank you!

Not to forget that you have the DD Pro, which was already in a very stable state software-wise whereas the DD Extreme suffered from a multitude of issues at the same time as a new product. So you can't really judge one by looking at the other 😉

I found one thing in the Fanatec forum from Maurice in regards to the ITM support in GT7:

So sounds like Fanatec has to do some work first, before PD can implement/enable the full support for the DD X display.

@Famine shouldn't this thread be moved to the hardware area? This is in the GT7 section whereas all other wheels are discussed there

Another problem occurred.
I just installed Driver 462 and ran through the Update process.
The Wheelbase got updated but the WQR showed a error message.
Now my Wheel is not recognized anymore.
What now?

Retry QR update multiple times, if it doesn't work contact Fanatec.
I tried but always the same error message.
An undefined error occurred.
It's still on 0.6.6.5
It works though.
I just tried GT7.
Any downside on using the old WQR Firmware?

One thing I've been doing to try to avoid weird errors is to completely uninstall Fanatec Drivers and all Fanatec software, then reboot PC.
Then install new drivers, then reboot PC.
Then hook up wheel base and update FW after doing that. Seems to help. And for QR FW maybe hook up wheel to PC with wheel attached, then take wheel off, then update QR FW. Or try connecting wheel to PC with no wheel attached and then update QR FW. Then Reboot wheel, then reboot PC, then reconnect base/ wheel to PC and it should correctly display FW versions. Not sure if all that should be necessary, but seems to fix errors like that.

Same here - always uninstall and reboot, then install the new, which will make you reboot again.

I had always installed the driver with the wheelbase disconnected. However Maurice on the Fanatec forum said to install the driver w the base connected and turned on to make sure the correct USB device was set on the windows side FWIW

Didn’t have issues previously, and this time I followed his advice for 463 - FW install worked but the base didn’t reconnect so I had to power cycle it. Came up ok so who knows

BTW a reply by Maurice in another post mentions possible issues w bases that worked fine w 455 but have issues w 463 due to changes needed for the Bentley wheel

He says this would indicate a HW issue that would need a fix so staying w 455 and allowing warranty to lapse could be a problem for future

Oh yeah I never even thought about having wheel connected to PC the whole time you're uninstalling/ re-installing drivers, but I can see how that could work too.
Another thing to try if you run into issues!

I did see that post about the changes to FW/ Drivers for Bentley wheel. I haven't updated to 463 just because everything is working perfect for me now, but that is a legitimate reason to upgrade, just to see if everything still works right with new drivers. I might do that now actually. It's great having a wheel this nice and having it just work perfect. I'm a little hesitant honestly! LOL
