Had mine for over two years now and it's been great, no issues at all other than the crap QR Lite. Not interested in upgrading to the DD+, 8Nm is fine with me. I'm not paying £1000 just for FullForce, which no games support at present AFAIK, and a few more Nm.
Just a quick q. Are your settings for GT7 in your footer still current?

Hello everyone. I own the GT DD Pro 8Nm with a Qr2 Type-C (base and wheel). I recently upgraded my pedals by purchasing the Load Cell pedal. Now I would like to change the steering wheel. Only here I am hesitating between 2 models with really different prices and designs. I'm hesitating between the Clubsport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 and the CSL Elite McLaren GT3 V2.
Of course one costs twice as much as the other and with the QR2 this represents a fairly significant amount.
So that's why I would like to have your opinions on the Formula V2.5 for those who own it and use it on GT7. Is it really worth putting double the price into this steering wheel knowing that apparently the McLaren GT3 V2 is already good according to some comments?. Thank you for your answers

The V2.5 is 27cm which is ideal for me for this style of steering wheel and the McLaren is 30cm a little big in my opinion but I advise you to take the esports V2 which is also 27cm, much cheaper and there is enough buttons! I think the V2.5 and prettier but the buttons are not very useful especially in gt7.

Are you talking about the Fanatec F1 Esports V2 ?
Indeed it is less expensive than the Formula V2.5. But it's its design that I don't really like. But its diameter of 27 cm is more than sufficient. The McLaren one measuring 30 cm is perhaps a little too big

I was going to offer that the formula wheel is excellent other than it being a tad small. I only use it for high down force cars with smaller steering ratios. I don't enjoy the formula wheel for road cars at all. Ymmv here.

It is small and light so the FFB is strong with it as well.

Good luck!

Which Formula steering wheel are you talking about ? Esports V2 or Formula V2.5 ?

Yes the esports V2 it's true the design is less pretty but it has Alcantara unlike the v2.5 but aesthetically I also prefer the 2.5 in carbon !

They all have the same geometry. It doesn't matter which one you pick. I bought this last year black Friday and it was 100 off the retail price (or maybe 150, I can't remember). The 2.5x just has more bells and whistles but are basically the same guts from what I understand. Maybe someone who has or has used both can chime in.

I’ve had the McLaren, Esport and Formula. I kept the Formula because of it’s build quality and versatility.

I also play ACC and most of the the buttons are mappable, except the PS, share and options.

The McLaren felt to cheap/flimsy and I don’t like the alcantara from the Esport.

I have the GT DD Pro 8NM but with the older QR1. I have the Clubsport V2.5x and it is a nice wheel but I don't use it. I find the 270mm too narrow and the alcantara grips need maintenance (like needing to wear gloves) to avoid it looking ick over time and I found with my big fingers that it would rub skin on extended driving sessions. It is also too easy to knock the thumb dials so you have to "mod" them to stiffen them up. If they made it 320mm wide it with leather grips it would be nice as the button placement is good but they don't.

I have not tried the other but my favorite wheel is actually the 330mm Clubsport RS rim (https://fanatec.com/us-en/steering-wheels/clubsport-steering-wheel-rs). While it could do with a few more buttons, the leather rim, size and feel is pure perfection.

I use button caps with mine.

Now I am in VR, i don't use the buttons much and some are kind of redundant now but occassionally, things like the change view can still be useful in 2D.

The PS, Share and Settings buttons in the lower center you can't remap. The others you can.

Square - Right Indicator
Triangle - Usually Reverse bu urrently hand brake for the rally-cross TT.
X - flash for when I get angry :)
O - Handbrake for parking (but currently set as reverse)
R2 - Left indicator
R3 - Change View
L2 - Nitro/DRS/Boost - this one is place well for holding while driving
L3 - Look back

I should probably map one to be the horn just so I can annoy @Tidgney

I went through the same debate with myself when I first realised I did not like the DD Pro standard wheel. Ended up with the McLaren GT3 V2 wheel and, other than the caveat below, have been very, very happy with it. I chose it over the formula wheel because 1) GT7 just does not need that many buttons and 2) I prefer the larger rim.

I have since also bought the Clubsport Steering Wheel RS and use that for some road cars and rally/ snow TTs.

The caveat on the McLaren wheel is that the contact points behind the shifters come loose easily. There are two fixes for this. I opted for the cheap fix, which is to tape them down. I bought the wheel in Feb 2022, had to tape it about a month in, then again about 6 months later, and not once since. The other method is to upgrade to magnetic shifters (like this). Even after that upgrade you'd still pay less than for the formula wheel. I know that sounds a bit dodgy (the issue with the shifters), but honestly, it is a fantastic wheel.

+1 for the McLaren wheel, an absolute bargain (and I've never needed to repair mine). Very solid gear change might be a bit much for some but you never miss it, unlike other wheels (like the DD Pro where it's easy to miss a shift). You can also shift up and down with one hand so your beer / wine hand is free

I now have my McLaren V2 wheel for two years and never encountered a single issue with it. It still works really well like the first day

My McLaren v2 Rim is almost 5 years old and still running flawless.
The Shifters have lost their super loud click noise which I very much appreciate and the funky stick doesn't react every time I move it but other than that it feels awesome.
Oh yeah the rubber grips are seriously thinned out too, but I have already bought a new one in case it breaks any time soon.
So yeah it's absolutely a no Brainer for 199€,
Its been used for 3500hours with GT Sport and has currently clocked 4800hours of usage with GT7.
So overall well over 8000 hours of heavy usage.
Everlast, build to survive 😅

Thank you all for your feedback.
It's really nice of you to take the time to respond. Based on the comments I think I'm going to go for the McLaren GT3 V2.
For several reasons stated by you but above all by its quality/price ratio. And since I only play GT7 I don't need as many buttons as the Formula V2 offers and the price too...
Thanks again everyone. :cheers::cheers:

Good drive and enjoy

Had my McLaren for about 2 and a half years and it's been faultless. The only thing I didn't like was the shifters, for me they weren't close enough to be comfortable on long sessions. Fixed that by fitting the SimMakerz paddle mod, highly recommend them and well worth the money.

I tweaked the GT7 ones the other day, I've just updated the sheet.
Cheers mate. Good settings and detail when driving. Works better for me compared to the 2 I copied off YouTube last couple of months. Although i do nudge ffb up to 10 Ingame as I prefer more of a heavier and resistance from wheel :).

Even then, the wheel didn't feel like it was going to explode into a thousand pieces in grp2 car on Sardegna!

Would you mind mentioning when you tweak them please.

Thanks a lot.
