Fanatec Podium Direct Drive Wheel Bases Thread

I've been a bit confused reading some of the blog posts on fanatecs website about the gift that the pre order people are meant to get. Do the ones who purchased at the auctions also get this first off? and do we get a voucher to use or the 2019 F1 rim?

I won a DD1 in one of the early EU auctions - Once Fanatec decided what they were going to do with the delayed shipping of the Podium bases, emails were sent out with a free offer for the 2019 F1 rim as compensation for the delay. This was later changed to offer a voucher to the value of 349 Euros to spend on any Fanatec product of your choice. You could still elect to get the 2019 limited edition F1 rim on release as was the original offer ....

Did you receive the email/emails from Fanatec?

Everyone who placed their order before the delay announcement should have already received their voucher. As bluepeter says, originally it was the F1 2019 wheel, but then this was adjusted following customer feedback to a general voucher of the same value. We are giving those who received this voucher VIP access to order the F1 2019 wheel, to guarantee that they can get a unit (as it is also a limited edition like the F1 2018 wheel).

Can I have a DD1 for free?

I also need to buy a steering wheel, maybe two, an H-pattern shifter, a sequential shifter, handbrake and pedals. Oh my!

Hi Dom,

Can you clarify how the voucher was sent out. Was it by email or through the Account page on the webstore? I was one of the lucky winners in the 1st Australian Auction and received an email about the delay and the gift, however I haven't received any voucher as yet.

Edit: Nevermind, went back through the email and found the Voucher Number written in the email. Can we just add it to the checkout of anything we purchase?

Thanks

You should be able to, I ordered two of the advanced shifter module and applied it at the checkout.

No :)

Yes, but it doesn't work for bundles, and you can only use it once (so even if you purchase something below the value of the voucher, the voucher is marked as completely used.) These details should be explained in the email.

@DomB_Fanatec: I was planning on pre-ordering the DD1 last weekend but I saw the shipping date shifted to May 31st :banghead:. The DD1 coming out on this date are still from the first batch with the DD2 motor?
Yes :)

I haven't used my voucher yet and was wondering... do I need to use it before April 30th?
Will there be a Podium F1 wheel? If not I will go ahead with ordering an F1 V2 and would that require an adapter?

Thank you (sorry if I missed this info)
Bailey

Hi Bailey, the voucher lasts for a year, so you have until December 7th to use it.

I think some people are confused by the existence of a Podium spec F1 wheel, which we have never announced. This is probably because our PS4 direct drive system, which includes a steering wheel, is called the Podium Racing Wheel F1 PS4. In fact, due to the fact it is pre-installed with the Podium Advanced Paddle Module, the ClubSport F1 wheel that is included in this package is a mix of ClubSport and Podium spec. This can also be achieved with the ClubSport Steering Wheel F1 2018 (sold out) and ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.

The Formula V2 will connect to any of our wheel bases (CSL, ClubSport, or Podium Series) without the need for a separate adapter. It is already assembled with the ClubSport Quick Release Adapter.

[edit] Updated info.

It’s been so long since I visited this post and it’s nice to see most of the same people from the start of it are still here.
I would have figured you were one of the first people that pre order one since you were so excited for them. Waiting for reviews?

Also just in case you don’t know the fanatec 1.5 shifter works as both h-pattern and sequential with the flip of a switch

Indeed. I'm waiting for reviews, especially from Sim Racing garage and GamerMucleVideos.

I'm also interested in the FeelVR, although that interest is getting less and less by the ..... mmmm, month. My interest in the DD1 is getting stronger and stronger by the ...... mmmm, minute. :P

If I could bring myself to spend a lot of money on sim racing hardware, I would get one of these:

Oh ok, yeah saw the review of that shifter it’s nice and all but it’s just to massive and expensive at 1100 euro.
You will be expending a lot though since you will be getting the dd1 at 1000, 2 wheels at 400 each for the club sport versions, 200 for the shifter if you want it plus up to 500 for the pedals depending on which you decide, (all this in Fanatec gear).

Then you have those nice podium magnetic shifter adapters paddles to think about at 180, plus the kill switch they are saying will be up soon on the website and to top it all off a rig to put all the shiny new sim racing gear.

Forgot to include a VR HMD, I’m waiting on the Oculus Rift S since I liked that it uses 5 sensors for the insight system even though it’s not the one with biggest FOV or better resolution

Hello,
I am newbie to the world of sim racing. Got into it at the beginning of the year. Started off with a Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition and wheelstand. Found out I like it and bought a Trak Racer RS6 MACH 2 two weeks later, then bought the Froza Wheel Bundle with handbrake from Fanatec a month later and now placed an preorder for the DD2 a few weeks back.
What I was wondering is if the Trak Racer RS6 Mach 2 would be be fine for the DD2 or if I need to buy another rig? Currently running the Clubsport 2.5 on it and its fine with that just don't know if I need to move up to a more robust rig for the DD2.

Thanks!

Wow you spent a lot of money in just 3 months then!

That is a question you should ask Trakracer though. I think they are happy to answer that question. Since the DD1 is not yet available, I suggest you should ask if the rig can handle an OSW or similair DD wheel.

It all depends on the torque you are going to use. If the Trak Racer can't handle high torque, lower it. It would be stupid to buy yet another cockpit.
The Trak Racer seems to be a pretty sturdy cockpit.

It's not so bad if you don't added it up:D

Yeah, I was thinking that I should wait a while since I just bought it, but those sim labs P1 and TR1 look nice! Since you guys are more in tune with the direct drive bases thought I would ask your opinion on the DD2 and Trak Racer combo. I guess I'll wait and try it out before I jump the gun and buy a new rig. I was just thinking though that the Sim Labs rigs were in stock and well... ya know...

Just a question but why would you want the DD2 when the DD1 is cheaper and probably as good as the DD2? If I buy, and this is still a big if, I'd definitely go for a lesser powerful DD wheel as torque isn't everything. Besides, you can't use the maximum torque of a steering wheel. It is too powerful.

Contact trak racer through Facebook Matt is quick to reply and seems like a good guy. I reckon others have asked the same question there and have had a positive response.

I don't think it's a big difference in price when you consider to get an equal warranty on the DD1 to the DD2 you'll need to spend and additional $300 to get the 5 year warranty and then you'll still need to buy a kill switch which I would guess to be around $50-$100. So the DD1 would be around $1,400 with those two things. So really a difference of $100 which would be more for the increased power and fidelity, the convenience of having everything in the purchase instead of having to purchase the kill switch after the base is sent and paying additional shipping charges and wait times and let's hope they don't sell out....

Yup, Matt helped me on my order. He was very helpful! I did find a Q&A section on Trak Racer website that stated it was fine for Direct Drive wheels. So I guess we shall see.

I preordered the DD2 for the same reasons. The 5 year warranty is important to me on first gen equipment.

Exactly, and Thomas did say these first batches of DD2s get a free upgrade to the 5 year warranty, normally you have to buy the upgrade to the 5 from what I understood.

As I recall, I think the DD2 always had 5 years warranty, but the DD1 was 2 years I believe.

It doesn't matter, everyone should be thrilled to have any DD

Agreed, for me the entire point of getting the Fanatec bundle was to eventually go to direct drive, I just did not think I would be doing it so soon.

In the video Thomas mentioned the benefits of the DD2 including the free of charge 5 year warranty for the preorders. I took that to mean the normal warrant would be less (maybe same as the DD1) and would cost more to get the 5 year. He talks about warranty and DD2 benefits around the 6.09 mark in the video.

That’s exactly what I thought for the last 6 months and told people also, but it turns out that simply isn’t true, the DD2 actually has better more detailed FFB than the DD1 even though they have the same motor. Because of how torque works even if you set both DD1 and DD2 to the same strength the DD2 will have more detail because it can accelerate quicker as the torque isn’t limited to a lower number. People who have already tried both have mentioned they can feel a small but noticeable difference between the two.

That and the 5 year warranty and the kill switch which I know will be made available separately but I’m sure they will make a profit on sealed it for me.

I stand corrected. :P
