Fanatec's obligation is also to make as much money as possible, they are not a charity. From purely economic standpoint, it's in Fanatec's best interest that their base is not supported on the next gen and that the users are forced to upgrade. After all, we are talking about 1k+ bases here, not some budged variants, so the customer base does not consist of cheap asses. It only matters how they will package it up, when they tell people that their bases are obsolete. Since there is no DD competition on consoles and many people prefer plug'n'play ecosystem, it shouldn't be too much trouble.
Highly dissagree with that.... we the community, gamers or customers if you will are not so naive to be treated like that...yes Fanatec is not charity and make products for money - no doubt...but they are here after 20 years, because they choosed the long term relation - not the quickie:)
After year and some to say your DD is obsolete is pure marketing suicide!;)

Will there be a compatibility mode on the PS4 Podium Racing Wheel like the CSL? So we can play Dirt Rally on PS4 with force feedback, shifter and handbrake. I read somewhere that there will only be PS4 blue and PC mode.

Edit: I found it. Quote from DomB_Fanatec on another site.

Is there a reason it does not have this mode?
In that case I hope that drivehub works.

To my understanding they removed the g27/ps3 mode from csw v2.5 and up so I guess it is the same here.
Why ?
My guess is to reduce driver complexity + licensing

Cant remember what was the case with Dirt Rally and PS4, but every retail wheel and base with the logo official PS4 licensed wheel must work with all titles. This is not the time that Sony said that devs can decide which not compatible wheel to support in the title. Here they have obligation to do it, otherwise what kind of license is selling Sony? A sticker on the box only? The only freedom that devs have is to decide in general the title to support H shifter or HB...the compatibility mode was great solution for the time without license and the time when the license was new and some titles didint have the time to be updated with Fanatec support. If you buy racing wheel stated PS4 official licensed in 2019 and the racing titles on PS4 dont support it - you can ask for a refund!:) I cant agree with scenario "well our wheels are officialy licensed,but.."
I am sure the DD1 PS4 dont need DriveHub for PS4 titles, which is great device btw...

I'm with you here. To me it's crazy that I have to worry about PS4 compatibility with a PS4 licensed wheel. I know it's Codemaster that does not support the game propperly on PS4 and that is the main reason we have this problem, but Fanatec also has a responsibility to do what they can to make sure the licensed wheelbases work. They have a nice solution with the CSL Elite. It works, at least the 311 driver. I have the PS4 Podium on pre-order and expected it to work the same way my CSL works. But maybe Fanatec has another solution. I hope to hear from them on this issue.

It is related to the licensing agreement with Sony.

Thank you. What is the difference with the CSL licensing agreement than? Was it not possible for Fanatec and Sony to come up with a similar solution like the CSL base? Because as it stands I'm going from CSL and able to play mostly all the PS4 games, to the Podium wheel and not being able to play the games I would like to. Dirt Rally (in VR) is one of the best driving games on PS4. I know I don't have to buy the Podium but still.

Unfortunately I can't disclose the details of our licensing agreement. We will continue to work with game studios as well as Sony to ensure our products are as compatible as possible with our direct drive system.

Another great move by Sony.:dopey:
I wonder, with what Sony will come up to make the lives of gamers even more difficult on the PS5.

I understand. It's just frustrating and dissapointing for me as a customer there is no reason given than because of the lincensing agreement with Sony. Nothing I can do with that information. :(

I still think Fanatec should be looking for a solution. If that is possible with Sony.

Relax , Shinu... there is 50% chance panic to be for nothing...so why to panic then;)
I'm strange like that. always trying to talk myself out of buying things (with the idea that I don't need them) for myself, but when I buy them I want to get them now (having no trust in shipping companies is partially at fault). Like a kid in Christmas eve.

I’m pleased to confirm that we are on track to ship the first batch of the Podium Series direct drive systems on April 30th. This includes all three systems: Podium Wheel Base DD1, Podium Wheel Base DD2, and Podium Racing Wheel F1® PS4™. All units already pre-ordered until now will ship on time.

Please note that due to high demand, we are very nearly sold out worldwide for this first batch. In fact, some variants are already sold out in some regions, for example the Podium Racing Wheel F1® PS4™ in Australia, and the Podium Wheel Base DD2 in Europe. So if you see the estimated availability date change on the product page, this isn’t because we are delayed, it’s because you’ve missed the first batch!

Production continues to ramp up and we are beginning to prepare the second batch, which will ship in June. Thank you for your patience; we’re really excited to get this remarkable technology into your hands.

I hope the announcement from Fanatec will be soon - to avoid storm in the glass of water if there is no problem with april delivery!:) If all April orders will be shipped on time - the next batch can be when Fanatec wants and when Fanatec can deliver!;)

Anyone able to list some good steering wheel alternatives for DD1, looking for a ”all-round” option, will be used for assetto and F1. Thanks in advance.

@DomB_Fanatec Hi Dom, I saw a graphic recently that showed holding torque of the dd2 at 15nm. On the official fanatec website it mentions that it is not less 18nm. For the dd1 it also mentions not less than 15nm holding torque, so will this be less if the dd2 is 15nm? Cheers

@Fanatec... Does PS4 and racing games on it utilise the 1000 Hz update rate or is it only 250 Hz or something else?

It would be good if they do that only if it will improve FFB in racing games. Maybe they can utilise latest USB connectivity protocols for lower latency.
