BTW does anyone know whether the Podium series will get software like the Simcommander that lets you use game telemetry data for FFB and/or individual game/car profiles?

Fanatec mentioned some software suite but they did not demo it yet.

Okay, yeah so that was what I was thinking of. I thought I remembered hearing something, but wasn't sure. Seems a lot of people really like the game telemetry FFB thing.

@DomB_Fanatec : Out of curiousity as I see that several game devs already have a Fanatec DD mounted to their rigs and they showcase it on social media. Do you know if reviews will become available before shipdate 30. April? Or is it still under embargo? Would be nice if we could read/watch early first impressions from others (although I like the SRG vids also). Makes waiting more bearable until the postman has a package for me ;) Thanks, dank je wel!

@DomB_Fanatec Hi Dom, I saw a graphic recently that showed holding torque of the dd2 at 15nm. On the official fanatec website it mentions that it is not less 18nm. For the dd1 it also mentions not less than 15nm holding torque, so will this be less if the dd2 is 15nm? Cheers
I wouldn't read too much into this graph, F1Aussie. The results are outdated and not representative of real-world use. The holding torque figures on the product pages essentially describe the motor's ability to retain performance indefinitely, but really it's the peak torque values that matter the most to force feedback.

@Fanatec... Does PS4 and racing games on it utilise the 1000 Hz update rate or is it only 250 Hz or something else?

It would be good if they do that only if it will improve FFB in racing games. Maybe they can utilise latest USB connectivity protocols for lower latency.
I believe the PS4 is capable of using the 1000Hz update rate, but I'm not aware of any consumer-grade simulator on PC or console that actually updates its physics this quickly. The 1000Hz rate is beneficial regardless, as the base can react faster after each signal from the game.

You should find that the posts from game devs have been removed (please PM me if you know of any that are still online). While we appreciate their enthusiasm, the units that they've been receiving are not final and therefore were not supposed to be shown this way. In terms of reviews, this is in progress, and we would also like to see some reviews online before it reaches the hands of our customers, but I can't confirm the timing of this.

I was just watching a video about the FeelVR and someone commented that the electronics being in the housing of the wheel is a bad idea. It should be a separate box. I believe it was last week that I read the same thing in the comments of a Fanatec DD wheel.

Why is it such a bad idea that the electronics are inside the housing of the wheel?

I'm guessing that electric motor makes a magnetic field that could interfere.
But Fanatec has better production (not to mention bigger R&D budget) line and I'm sure they can shield everything.

Thomas even commented that their devices must pass specific regulations to support consoles etc

It's not really a 'bad idea', it's just difficult to achieve. It's a good idea to have everything in a single unit for latency, ease of use, design elegance, and so on, which is what the Podium Series brings to the table. It would be much easier to have the electronics in a separate box (this is why other DD solutions are assembled this way), but we didn't want to do that.

Hey DomB,

I have a quick question, if you can answer it.
For those of us who have pre-ordered a DD1/DD2, are they expected to ship on april 30th, or start to arrive at our houses on April 30th?

I know it is only a difference of maybe a week, but I'm just curious.
And thank you for all the time you spend answering our questions!

You're welcome flooderqb19. All units will be in their respective warehouses and ready to ship on April 30th.

@DomB_Fanatec if I should get a DD1 wheel what do I need to use my OMP steering wheel? Also, what do I need if I want to combine paddle shifter/button with this OMP wheel?

Yes but I think there Will be DD version (I would wait)
For my knowledge on new product, i know that would be a modular hub, The Porsche version. And the old one that i show you earlier, which it will use the full power for the DD motor.

I wonder if all the switches will be compatible with GTS MFD (brake balance, TC, fuel map, torque split). Great to see the best driver taking the best wheel to a stonking lap though 👍

Price wise it's definitely out of the league for me atm. I also hope there will be a normal styled rim + pedals bundle down the line. Will definitely consider it for next gen if that's the case and hopefully prices would be a lot more reasonable then. Thrustmaster has just disappointed me in every way with their T-GT this generation.

Regardless, good to see Fanatec finally bringing the zenith of wheel technology to consoles. Great work guys 👍 I feel bad for all the trailblazer DD wheel companies (Bodnar, Accuforce, etc) as they will struggle for sales now. What does everyone think?

Not a DD version, a Podium version, both the current Universal Hub for XBOX One (PC Also) and the Podium Universal Hub work on DD’s and the Podium one will probably work on the CSW’s as well I should imagine.

Another positive point I can add to the Fanatec DD wheels. Shielding of electric and electromagnetic interference. If the DD shields as I think it does, it is even better for your health than other DD wheels.

:D

Eagerly awaiting the launch reviews as I'm buying a DD around Christmas time this year.

Tried the Accuforce and it's very good, almost ordered one.
But, I love Fanatec and heavily vested with them already so I'm hoping the Podium is as good as the V2.

Any custom wheel that requires data/power must be connected as a separate USB device while attached to the ClubSport Universal Hub (or the Podium Wheel Adapter once that becomes available). However, unless you really want to use the paddle shifters and buttons shown in that picture, it would make much more sense to just attach the OMP rim directly to the ClubSport Universal Hub and use the buttons and shifters that come with it. This way you are just using a rim, and therefore remaining within the Fanatec ecosystem, so you would not need to use a separate USB cable.

There is no 'Podium Universal Hub' as such. The ClubSport Universal Hub and Podium Wheel Adapter can serve the same purpose if used in the right configuration. For example, if you wanted a mount for a custom USB steering wheel, you could remove the button boxes and shifters from the ClubSport Universal Hub, or you could use the Podium Wheel Adapter in combination with the ClubSport Quick Release Adapter. If you wanted to mount a simple rim to the ClubSport Universal Hub and use its button boxes and shifters, you can also achieve this with the combination of a Podium Wheel Adapter, ClubSport Quick Release Adapter, Podium Advanced Paddle Module and, potentially, the Podium Button Plate. These are all separate modular components that combine to make something similar in feature set (but at 'Podium' level of performance/materials). But the Podium Button Plate is designed around the Porsche 911 GT3 R rim, and is not as flexible as the small button boxes of the ClubSport Universal Hub. It fits our new Porsche and R300 rims (shown at the Expo, coming soon), and potentially several other wheels of a similar shape.

Well whatever it’s called I’m interested. :D Specifically with the more professional button plate, is there any chance you can find out if the OMP 320 Alu S https://www.ompracing.com/en_gb/320-alu-s.html would work with that button plate? Or if you are doing more than one button plate with different look and button placement?

Thanks.

I can't answer that directly, but what I can say is that we will have a template for the Podium Button Plate that you can download and print out to check the exact fitment with your wheels.

I've been a bit confused reading some of the blog posts on fanatecs website about the gift that the pre order people are meant to get. Do the ones who purchased at the auctions also get this first off? and do we get a voucher to use or the 2019 F1 rim?
