In the iracing forum someone from Fanatec said they are coming out with the regular side connection for the Fanatec cockpit and also a version for 8020 cockpits, lets see which come to the market first

Exact quote from Dominic Brennan

The Podium bases have the same triangular mounting hole pattern as the CSL and ClubSport bases, so you can easily mount them from below on most wheel plates/decks. Our side mounted brackets will be available soon. They have been redesigned to support aluminium profile uprights (as well as the RennSport).
There is only one version, it has been redesigned to support the RennSport and square/rectangular alu profile uprights.

I hate to say it but these failures are making me a bit nervous. Seems like a fair amount of people posting them considering how relatively limited they are. Luckily mine seems solid so far.

Hi

When will it be on the site? (Podium Mounting Brackets)

I feel the same, mine is working good except for it giving me a scare the other day when both base and wheel completely froze.

Don’t know why so many Fanatec DDs are failing never heard of any of the other direct drive wheels dying except for one in the iracing forum but that was personal stupidity (supposedly)

The bottom line is that Fanatec has your back on this product so if it breaks you'll get a new one. Not the end of the world but I do think Fanatec should offer everyone (early adopters) a 5 year warranty because this product is not looking like it's going to be 100% reliable.

As long as they do that it will be fine a big inconvenience when it happens to you but other alternative is to go for the best and forget about it ever breaking.

Just kidding since it costs nearly 5k USD

I noted three in this thread, were there more? Three is not a lot when you think about how many they have sold. Also seemed to be PS4 and DD1 bases.

How many have they sold?
That's a good question, not sure but lets do some basic math....

If they have 3 defective then:
Sold: 3 Failure Rate(FR): 100%
Sold: 6 FR: 50%
Sold: 30 FR: 10%
Sold: 100 FR: 3%
Sold: 1000 FR: 0.3%
Sold: 2000 FR: .015%

So I am wondering how many more have been reported? Three items is not a lot especially for a new just released item.

Not defending, just stating fact. I have a DD2, no issues but I have not really used it for more than an hour (injured arm last month) and during that hour I only ran at 35 FFB (yup screen shows 2Nm) without the torque key.

Yeah no problems if it breaks under warranty but if it breaks a day after our 2 year warranty expires that’s when the problem will be since then you will have to pay, mine is the PS4 DD so that’s why I’m worried about the reliability, I seem other people in streams reporting theirs is going back to get fix, exactly how many only Fanatec knows for sure and of course they won’t comment on it.

All we can do is cross our fingers and pray to who ever you believe in that when you press that power button all works as intended

I hear ya, I opted for the DD2 for the extended warranty.

I went with the PS4 version because I wanted native console support and also like I said you never ever heard of a Bodnar or OSW ever breaking

I ordered a PS4 version too. Speaking of the PS4, remember all the reports of dead on arrival PS4s when it launched? I do. It happens. A small percentage will have defects, especially at the launch of a product. As has been pointed out, this is likely a very low percentage number, and in line with the manufacturer's expectations. Keep in mind, we only hear from the people who have issues. Not the 97 out of 100 that don't, etc. I'm not saying there aren't bigger issues here. That is still a possibility, but at least with what I've read here and other places.....I am not yet seeing anything out of the ordinary with a new product launch.

Yes I know that but like I said just worried since the DD1 are the ones with the problems and that’s what I have (PS4 version but DD1 basically) and it already froze on me once, I know $1500 is not that much but still, well what else can I do but hope for the best

I'd like to think that the Podium is the stepping stone to bigger better things in the future and in 2 years there will be something even better.

Do you know what it fixes?
Can’t check myself since I’m a work

Cut 'n paste below from Podium Wheel Bases (and Racing Wheels) discussion

Brake Force was reversed in the new driver, before you needed lower Brakeforce setting for maximum strenght and now you need a higher Brakeforce setting to get the same result. So when you had Brf on 30 with driver 334 you now have to set it to 70. With Brf on maximum 100 you now need a LOT of brake pressure to get 100% pedal input and with Brf 0 you only have to slightly touch the brake pedal to get 100% pedal input. This is an intended change as it was previously simply wrong in the old firmwares and was now fixed.

Btw, the new driver is now online on the DD webshop pages in the download tabs.

In addition to that the pedal issue (reversed axis so Throttle becomes clutch and brake is pressed 100%) should also be fixed with the new driver and firmware.

I'm so confused - once we update to the new firmware are all of the current Fanatec recommended DD settings still applicable?

I seem to have a problem with my DD1, I can't turn it off anymore using the power button on the back, it just stays on.
I have to unplug the power to shut it down.

Anyone else seen this?

Has anyone tried connecting any high end third party wheels to a DD1 or DD2 yet? Fanatec claims it will work, but I don't want to be the trial run on a $1500 rim. Something like the Precision Sim Engineering GT3 wireless for example.

https://www.precisionsimengineering.com/shop-online/gt3-wireless-wheel

How would you connect a high end third wheel?
Those wheels mostly use a Holger QR1 quick disconnect, and in order to work in the DD you need the universal hub's USB, so how would you connect the other wheel to the DD base?
Only way I see is to remove the button box from the high end wheel and just connecting the universal hub to only the other rim but that would defeat the purpose, since you will be loosing all that makes a high end wheel high end, including magnetic paddles and those expensive knitter push buttons.
Sorry I might be stupid and overthinking so if you know how let me know I'm actually interested in this option for other wheels
