This is a joke question, but I am still going to ask. Can I pay you more money to unlock the max torque values on the Podium Racing Wheel I just ordered? :P (but no seriously? maybe? eh? eh?) haha.
I guess someone will develop a CFW at some point that will unleash the full power. :sly:

Does anyone have some good AC settings for the DD1 they could recommend? I tried the Fanatec ones and honestly hated them. My CSL felt better. Been trying to mess around with in game settings but haven't made much progress. Feels good in a straight line but any sort of high speed turn results in clipping. In order to get rid of that I need to turn the wheel down and then it feels weak. I'm not well versed in these FFB settings and I'm sure it's just a matter of figuring it out, but pretty disappointed right now. I want to feel the power without the massive return to center force during turns that apparently results in clipping.

Using “v2.5 comp” mode?

The recommended settings say it can be used in PC or Comp mode. I was running it in PC mode last night without any isues.
Can I press you on this as it still really bugging me - I just cannot get ACC to detect the base when in PC mode, is there a setting I'm missing?

So after a good amount of tuning I can safely say that this wheel is amazing. I know a lot of people say that DD doesn't make you faster, but after my races today I have to say, I don't think I would have been as fast on my CSL. Add the fact that I was catching slides that would have been impossible on my old setup, and I'm sold.

I had the FFBclip app enable in AC and that seemed to be the problem. Once I turned that off I was able to dial in my settings and get a great feel through the wheel. Not sure why they recommend turning off most of the in game FFB options. I really like having some of the road effects along with a stronger kerb.

I was worried at first, but I guess that app was just causing crazy clipping for some reason. So much feel and control. Lots of traffic in an online lobby in AC meant I had one lap to qualify and was able to beat the field by 1 second and then go on to win the race with wing damage. My arms are definitely going to be sore tomorrow

I'll have a look when I get on later to remind myself of what I did. What wheel did you have before the DD?

It's a shame you can't get it to work as the wheel feels superb with ACC. I'm coming from a CSWV2 and it's not the power that impresses me, it's the smoothness and fidelity you get. There is no slop in the system that you get from a gear or a belt which just makes it feel like you are holding a wheel which is attached to the steering rack and whatever forces are applied you feel 1:1 rather than being a bit spongey. It's quite a subtle difference but an extremely good and important one. Regarding the power of the wheel, I've got no idea why anyone would need a DD2. I've run the DD1 at FF100 in the tuning menu and it's just not necessary. Anything in the FF40-60 range is perfectly adequate. I think DD manufacturers push the power aspect of their wheels far too much when they should concentrate more on the smoothness, fidelity and overall 'feel' that a DD gives you.

Have you tried the FFBClip app? I use that as it automatically adjusts FFB in game to ensure you are not clipping. I haven't noticed any issues with the wheel using it. Not an expert however so would be interested in your thoughts on it.

Sorry I meant I was using FFBclip. Not sure why it was causing problems for me, but now that I know what clipping feels like I generally can tell pretty easily when its happening so I don't really feel like I need the app anymore. I think it was auto scaling the gain to super high levels.

I can post my settings if anyone is interested but I might have a pretty unique taste seeing as I really didn't like how numb the recommended setup was.

Yes please.

So heusinkveld sprint pedals, tick, dd1 and LE rim, tick. Just need my new 8020 rig to release and then I will be content. I have gone Into full mad Max mode to reinforce the wheel deck with aluminium and g clamps to cope with the dd1, lol.

Can't wait to actually try it out tonight when the family have gone to bed.

Tuning Menu Settings:
SEN 900
FF 40
SHO 100
FOR 120
SPR OFF
DPR 1
NDR 20
NFR OFF
FEI 100

In game:
gain 60
kerb 100
road 6
slip 3
enhanced understeer effect enabled
gyro effect enabled

Still tuning it but thats what I'm running currently. Using the Exos at Spa was really nice. I'd like a little more feel at low speed to judge what the rear is doing, but other than the chicane I felt like I knew exactly what the car was doing and there's a good amount of road/curb vibration for immersion. This setup with my Pimax 5K+ is a dream. Now I just need to upgrade my CSL LC pedals to some sprints or maybe a podium setup if that comes out in the next months.

Does iRacing need to be set to CSW 2.5 compatibility mode? I’m not getting nearly as much force feedback as I am in F1 2018 so I assume it’s an issue with the settings.

Just checked and can't honestly remember doing any particular. In game in the control menu when you have wheel at the top does your DD wheel appear twice when you hover over 'Devices'? Also if you open the 'Fanatec Wheel Property Page' from your desktop is your DD wheel listed twice in the list?

Yes to both, I believe it's the two rims, neither are faulty as they work fine with AC. I'm able to map the pedals (connected directly to DD1) steering maps, but gearshift paddles on both the Macca & formula V2 won't bind - flakey driver I believe, On the Fanatec forum in games set-ups, Doms settings for ACC - there's a chap who also can't bind the paddles on his GT3 rim either. Pedals fine (throttle/brake/clutch - good to go) but I can't change gear :( even if set to auto..... His solution was to use an older wheel, Porsche in this case, he mentions then switching back to the McLaren rim and everything is still working fine and retaining the bindings from the Porsche rim... One problem, I only have the two newer rims, which aren't properly recognised.....

Ah, that may be it then. I've only tried with my BMW rim so far. Next time I'm on I'll try the new F1 LE rim and Mclaren rim.

Are you all using the Assetto Corsa recommended settings for ACC or is Fanatec going to release separate settings? Also do we know when developers are going allow us to run the DD1 in native mode in ACC, iRacing, F12019, etc? I assume this just affects the max torque you can utilize?

The compatibility mode just makes the game think a CSWv2.5 is plugged in so the wheel will work. Max torque should not be affected I believe.

Well I have just spent my first two hours ever driving with a DD wheel.
What are my impressions so far?

It is dead quiet no rattling like I was used to with my t500, the only sound I heard was a fan cutting in and out at times.

The speed, this wheel is so quick to respond to your inputs, it is instantaneous. I never thought I had any lag with my t500 but after using the dd1 tonight I have realised I had massive lag. Tonight I was able to manipulate the car into spots I have not been able to before, it is so precise, I felt like I was on the edge of losing the MCR 2000 in rfactor 2 on every turn in and exit but was able to catch it at all times, that would not have been possible with my t500.

It is so smooth as well, I guess there is some resistance or friction with belt drives but not this thing.

The quick release works fine as well, I have seen guys mention it being loose or hard to get on properly but I found it to work perfectly on the few occasions I put my rim on and off.

There is a bit of a learning curve moving to fanatec but wow, I could not be more impressed with my initial feelings on this kit.

Now I just have to wait until my two advanced shifter modules to turn up to finish off my wheel update.

The combination of the heusinkveld sprints and the dd1 are a match made in heaven for me, have not enjoyed Sim racing as much as I did tonight for a long long time.

I feel that it is possible that the response time of the wheel will make you quicker too in the ability to rotate the car in and out of corners.

To me the difference from going from a mid range belt drive to a DD is like going from a goon bag (cask wine) to champagne.

If you can afford it I would advise you not to hesitate in going the DD route. If you can't afford it....then start saving!

👍

You can read the positive emotions the Podium Dd wheel is giving you. Short, straight to the point review.

Thanks Kikie, feels like when you first start going out with a new chick, the buzz and excitement you get, lol
I haven't had a chick in a veeeeerrrryyyy long time and me getting a DD wheel is much more realistic. Your excitement is rubbing off when I read your post. Your review really gave me an extra boost to convince myself that I need a DD wheel.

Good stuff! You won't regret it.

No he won't regret it. Perhaps I've been lucky, my PSU is silent, barely gets warm to the touch... The DD1 base, well I had a 3hr session earlier today hammering the McLaren 650s round Brands Hatch lap after lap - it's a bit disconcerting as the base is too quiet, pop your hand over the exhaust port at the back - well put it this way, you'd struggle to dry your hair with it....

Now, not sure who said it but it was mentioned that they preferred the design of a two box set-up..... Not here, being an ex design engineer I think Fanatec must be very proud of what they've turned out. Personally I think it's a very elegant design from an engineering point of view, it's looks rather sexy for a simple black rectangle. The casing with 45 degree chamfers on each corner give it good modern look, it certainly wouldn't look out of place in my esoteric hi-fi system - you could certainly fool some into believing it was a mono-bloc power amp, especially with the small inset readout. It's heavy, it's chunky but for me who buy's things by the pound/kilo/tonne, this lump of mainly metal has a somewhat reassuring quality about it..... Let's see if this time next year it's still holding up and hasn't developed rattles & hums.

Come on Fanatec, get this bloody software released, then I can start setting up individual car profiles etc etc.... instead of having to do via CM....

On this higher end I'm sure people will not regret with any of the DD wheelbases it is just when you constantly compare everything you might loose your mind :D

Got an sms that my buttkicker mount is finally on its way. Got to start thinking about the cable management.

What do you people do with the PSU (I'm thinking about mounting it underneath the base of the rig) and Buttkicker amp remote + main cables?

The rig looks awesome
The wheel and pedals look awesome

All those wires are a mess.

Slightly off topic:

Can someone recommend good hdmi cable (on the longer end 5-7m)? Especially with DD want to get back to some RF2 and ACC racing and need to plug my PC or my laptop (Being disabled it is not ideal to carry it back and forth) to the TV.
