Watched the movie and what I have to say is:

I didn't really get the point of the whole militia/mercenary squad thing. I feel as though it was thrown in just as plot filler and the movie could have done without it.

People are just now getting mad that the franchise has gone full blockbuster action movie with less focus on cars and street racing? It's been that way for like 3 movies now  To each their own, but I feel like everyone should have known what to expect with this.

People were clapping and cheering at the end of the showing I was at as well. Can't remember the last time I heard that in a movie theater other than maybe at a kid movie.

I do not really understand the sentiment either. The movie, in all typical measures, was not a good movie. However, it was entertaining as hell, just an all around fun ride, and how they finished the movie was incredibly touching.

Are there any car related mistakes? like someone driving a Ferrari FXX on the road? or a fake CCXR?
Not that i can think of. Probably the Lykan (obviously). Though i'm interested on how they managed to make the replicas of Lykan looks so good. NFS movie fabricators should take notes.

The packed theater I was in broke into full applause when the monologue at the end concluded. I think it helps that, while the cheesy sentimentality and nostalgic heart pulling that started piling on about 2/3rds in the movie was incredibly obvious, it was also clearly sincere.

Great, would love to know if the car was supplied by Lykan themselves or not.

The only one I caught was...

The Audi R8 Letty raced against at Race Wars had V10 sounds dubbed in but it was clearly a V8 model due to the quad tips and no V10 badge. It's a small thing but it's all I noticed.

And fun fact: Paul's blue GT-R was tuned by Forged Performance, an Atlanta area tuner. Must have picked it up when they were filming here.

My girlfriend had never seen a Fast & Furious movie so we spent the Easter long weekend watching all 6 preceding movies. To her credit she sat through them all without a complaint, even though I was effectively torturing her with 10 hours of content not aimed at her demographic.

With the ground work laid for her and refreshed for me, I took her to see number 7 yesterday. What can I say. Seeing them all in such short succession really makes you notice the evoloution from a movie about car guys to a stunt crammed, action packed blockbuster. Sure, not everything is realistic and not everything makes sense but that trait runs through the whole series. Catching an engine with one hand, jumping a car onto a boat, 100 mile runways and towing a vault aren't particularly realistic either.

Furious 7 ultimately fits the series. I felt that it was entertaining, easy to watch and that the ending was extremely genuine and heartfelt. My girlfreind told me it was her favourite of the saga and a movie she genuinely enjoyed.

I really hope this is it for the franchise. I felt 6 ended things perfectly then 7 came and did so even better. There's no loose ends left. They've gone from stealing DVD players, to taking down small time drug runners, to traffickers, to international criminals, to African mercenaries. They've been from LA to Brazil, through the Dominican Republic, Japan and all the way to Abu Dhabi. They've gone from Eclipses to Evos to Skylines to Veyrons. There is nothing left to do, nowhere left to go and nothing left to drive. If they make more movies I won't be subjecting my girlfreind to them and will probably watch them online years after release.

To focus back on 7 though, I'm glad we saw it and we both truly enjoyed it. The ending had tears in the eyes of nearly everyone there (including both of us) and I simply couldn't imagine a better send off for a very loved man.

I just wanna ask you guys quickly, did anyone else leave the cinema with an overwhelming urge to buy a Supra?

Just came back from seeing it and I really enjoyed it. The stunts just seem to get wilder and wilder every time. The closing scenes were a great send off for Paul and I liked the little tribute flashbacks at the end during Dom and Brian's final run together.

Good metaphor.

Anyway, anybody notice how the Supra sounds like a 4 banger ? It didn't sound like a 2JZ to me.
I'm assuming you're referring to the white one at the end (I don't remember any other Supras)?

That send off with Paul and Vin at the end there was really touching and really nicely done, the way Paul is clad in all white and splitting off into the unknown. Can't say the same about the actual movie, but it was never supposed to make sense anyways.

Yeah the white one.

Yeah, i was more of a Skyline fan but damn the Supra looks fine. It grows on me.

Considering that was Paul's personal car (as you pointed out earlier), I'm 99.9% sure it's a legitimate Supra.
Well it is a legitimate Supra, but they could (for some unknown reason, i don't know) dubbed the audio with a seemingly 4 banger sound. But that would be ridiculous, probably me ears are just playing tricks on me.

The Furious 7 reddit thread was hilarious. Made me realize that Djimon Hounsou best performances in movies are consists with loud "WHO?" (Guardians of the Galaxy" And "WHAT?" (Furious 7)

I agree I thought this was one of THE best of the entire series. Truly enjoyed the entire experience. When it comes to the Paul CGI my guess is they filmed all the American scenes at the beginning. I think Paul passed away before they made the Abu Dhabi scenes (middle of the movie). That's where I noticed some CGI but it was barely noticeable. Other than that it was handled incredibly well.

Yes they handled the end with Paul perfectly.

Its nowhere near over.
They have clearly set up for another movie. Plus I thought for sure they already confirmed they would be releasing at least 8 of these movies? My guess is Fast 8 will more than likely involve Owen Shaw trying to get his brother Deckard Shaw out of that holding cell. Deckard even said "You know this wont hold me". So my guess is the 2 Shaw brothers will be in the next movie.

He filmed the interior scenes in Abu Dhabi (except when he was in the Lykan).

Fast 8 will be in New York, Vin confirmed it when he was in Jimmy Kimmel Live, don't know if i will watch the next one because this ending is perfect. Lucas Black signed for 2 more movies but that was before Paul passed away so i don't know what they'll do about it now as the story would change a bit i guess, but i guess Paul would have retired in 8 or 9. He has implied it few times, even in the Unscripted interview for Fast 6 when Vin said there would be 7,8,9 and maybe 10, Paul was like "whaaat ?".

near the end, around 2:57 i guess

I just noticed that in the tribute scene, no one calls each other by names. It almost felt like a standalone part. Just a very beautiful tribute, that's awesome.

Lucas Black's scene is hilarious. They re-use footage from the end of Tokyo Drift (the final scene where Dom shows up for the race, complete with Lil Bow Wow), then cut straight to new footage shot specifically for this movie to continue that scene, so Lucas ages nine years between shots.

Plus, I just remembered, he's still technically supposed to be 18 or whatever.

Just found out that John Brotherton, the guy who played Kurt Russell's right hand man, also play as Paul Walker's double and stunt double.

Think it is okay, even good for FF. While I think it is/was good for the franchise to take the heist route, I do miss the focus (or more of it) on cars. But I really enjoyed my time in it.
Who would have taught of 5 more movies after the second one?

What is undeniable is the ending which was very well and carefully handled.

Still, the first one will always be my favorite, probably down to nostalgia and hitting the perfect age demographic when it came out. But the series fits good together and binchwatching it is really doable

Saw the movie last weekend and I quite enjoyed it. It was entertaining and the ending (the tribute to Paul) was fitting.

Yeah, that transition sure was, ummm, weird.

I'd rather they do ultimately stupid, unrealistic stuff on capers rather than getting bogged down in technical jargon in some garage that'd make even amateur grease monkeys cringe. F&F1 was an incredibly hard movie for me to watch.

And it should be an exhilarating sequence. Except that it isn't. Like all of the action set-pieces, I found myself bored by it. When your audience is bored when they should be on the edge of their seats, you know that something has gone terribly wrong. It was the equivalent of the poor-man's Michael Bay.

You can't help but be a bit predictable, especially when your big set pieces have been plastered all over the trailers.

Chest-offing:
Why the hell does anyone need a magic Where's Wally computer system in this movie? Jason Statham finds his targets quite easily, and shows up to spoil every single caper the good guys try to pull off. Now, finding them via underworld connections in the Emirates, sure, I have no problem with that, but crashing a top secret rescue mission, and somehow having a custom-made armored vehicle fit for that mission at the same time? Bull.

And Kurt Russell's black ops troopers are all idiots. All of them. I half-expected a big reveal where he turns out to be Statham's backer, and Statham was a pawn used to get the FnF crew to bring him Ramsey. But then, that would have been even more predictable than the plot already was.

Also, movie logic. When you actually need to be close to someone physically to transmit a wireless signal through a remote cell tower to their system.

Double-movie logic, the box that blew up the house from the front porch.

Triple-movie logic, Always hit the gas pedal. Always.

That said, while it had a lot of problems, it was watchable fun, and one of the better movies in the franchise. All that really let it down, from a popcorn point of view, was the lack of Paul Walker. The jokes work better when he participates in the dialogue. The main draw of these (honestly execrable) movies has always been the tight chemistry of the cast. And there were parts where it was strained. Still, fitting end to a series that has gone on way too long. If it goes on beyond this, they'll need to bring in more people, though.

As a movie itself, Furious 7 was okay. The casual movie watchers might enjoy all the explosions and gun warfare throughout. But as part of the FnF series though, it was slightly better than the previous iterations. Everything felt connected more and together. The ending tribute to Paul was done perfect too.

Also, I think it was a coincidence seeing an actual Supra just two days ago and then watching Furious 7. :sly:
