Too bad the Ford GTs were doing 160+ and blowing by me on the straight and the Porsches GT3 Cup cars do around 162 and the C6.Rs doing almost 170. You must not have read my thread about the shelby that is down a page or two.

Also, they have a class in SVRA which is the sanctioning body for the vintage races at Road America along with VSCDA, they have a series for ex-f1 and Indy Cars and I PAID to run one for a guy a few years ago.

So please drop the sarcasm

we got bored one day from work and my buddy's pontiac montana?(van) and my cavalier Z24 maxed out at 100mph. (speed limiter)

ive gone up to 230-240kmh in my old toyota supra

With my 240SX the speedo said ~85mph but I was only actually doing ~25mph :D Seeing as the tires on my car where junk I haven't gotten it above 45mph. So now I can go take it out on the freeway with the new tires I got today!...one thing that is nice about my car is that it was an auto but swapped to a 5 speed and in doing so you eliminate the speed limiter.

I did 200km/h with my Mercedes-Benz 190E 2,3-16 a while ago (or atleast that's what the needle showed). I'll never drive that fast again on the public roads... Don't worry, it was late already so it was dark and I would've spotted on-coming cars from their lights if there were any to come, fortunately there wasn't :) It's just so sick as the road starts to narrow and and all the bumbs feel like driving over a cat or something. There's just no time to react if something unusual occurs. Maybe in a race track someday again... :dopey:

I did 120 mph in our WRX a couple months ago. In retrospect, it was not a good idea. I came a little close for comfort to a car ahead of me.

I almost got my old Tacoma to 100 on the freeway last week, but alas, aerodynamics and only 4 cylinders kept me from going over about 97.

You should get that speedo fixed or at least it calibrated.

The speedo is just fine *HINT HINT*

And today I smashed my previous mentioned yesterday. Now the new record is 115 :D That was in 4th gear and it was still pulling but seeing as the speedo only goes to 115 I don't know how fast I got it up to.

I've gone 130mph in my DSM. Thats as fast as I can go as its equipped with a speed limiter.

That said, I might be removing it in the near future.. Speed Limiter Removal

Last night...

That's the very top end of our Mazda Tribute - so I've done 127 in both my Volvo and Audi, and I've brought the Tribute to its very highest possible speed.

M5Power, you actually took that picture while going at 100mph? I can see the need to "prove" speeds and the like with photographic evidence, however it seems slightly...well, for a want of a better word, dangerous to do so.

2,3.... 16!?

WINNAR!!! 👍👍

I've gotten my E320 to 100.

That wasn't dangerous.

This was a little dangerous:

So was this:

100? Nah. That wasn't dangerous at all.

Well... it was, by the very fact that your car was moving (unless you were on a rolling road) - static cars tend not to crash much - and you were dividing attention between taking a photograph and driving a car at higher speeds. And and if it was on a public road, it was highly foolish to do either, let alone both.

But, I don't believe it's a specific offence in the US - though it is the UK - so there's no particular legal obstruction to you doing it.

Although the fact that to operate the cameraphone to use it while doing that speed goes under "driving without due care and attention" section, I guess it could be one offence.

However, M5Power, do you mean perceived danger rather than actual danger? I must confess with today's cars, it often feels slower than it actually is.....

That is very true, I thought that the Suzuki would feel unstable and un-drivable at 110 but it wasn't. You could barely tell the difference between
that and normal speed. And the xl-7 is hardly a smooth, luxury car.

I disagree.

I think that doing the speed in the first place is both dangerous and foolish, but that photographing it is almost completely without danger.

No - in the Tribute it feels faster. Wind whips around the pillars. The whole thing is bad. But that's why the limiter's there. I bounced off it three or four times before the camera flashed. In the A4, it was bad because I was going so fast I couldn't keep it in one lane, so the lane line bumps really got to me. But in both European cars it didn't feel as fast as it was.

At the very least, you presumably had one hand on your camera. At those speeds, driving with only one hand on the wheel is incredibly foolish.

And I don't think the amount of hands on the wheel really matters when one of your tires explodes. Nope, don't think it'll matter. I think you're going to die with a bunch more hands on the wheel.

My Uncle was showing off his Viper, and we got to a large, long road with no cars on it, so he gunned it. We probably got around 160 before we noticed we were heading back into town.

+1

That's just what I was thinking.

I'm not talking about turns, I'm talking about little bumps and imperfections in the road itself. While driving at any speed, your tires and steering wheel are giving you valuable information. At 130 mph, if you're not listening with both hands, you might miss something. With only one hand on the wheel, there is imbalance. If you hit a little dip in the road, and your right hand is off the wheel (I won't ask where it is), you're more likely to swerve left. With both hands, it's much easier to compensate and correct. I'm not saying it's inherently dangerous, just that it's not smart at such high speeds.

Plus, your automatic might decide to downshift and give you a nasty bit of torque-steer.

Imperfections on the road which could cause swerving? I live in America, you know, and these are interstate highways.

By the way - at these speeds there will be no swerving. Just hard, hard braking.

And hoping that guy who thinks he's a cop doesn't pull out in front of you to "make a point".

Kinda like that guy who did it to me while I was driving Tyler's SS. Then the dude decided he wanted to race me, and I beat him hard! Dude, don't police me with your slow piece. If you want me to slow down, you'd better be driving a GTO.

BTW, I was going to perfectly sane ~80. He was going about 70. What a hypocrite! The limit is 65!

I would never even consider attempting speeds like this with other vehicles around. My last 130mph run was made by sitting on an onramp counting time between cars. I waited five or six minutes before there was a break long enough for me to sanely attempt the speed.
