Ferrari F458 Italia

*looks at the Ferrari*... The car looks great from the side profile, the rear is pretty decent, and the front is meh so its đź‘Ť for the outside... but Enzo Ferrari might come back as a Zombie to beat the snot out of the interior designers.. that interior makes me :ill:. That is not a Ferrari...

I'm realizing what I like so much about this thing is that it lacks the excess and substance that so many prior Ferraris had. It's not bulgy because it doesn't need to be. It speaks to lightness and a trim physique. It's not a body builder but rather a sexy woman in an expensive designer dress. The design has so much more personality than before. Truly special.

The more i see it the more i like it. It has an almost Dinoish shape to it without it looking even remotely retro đź‘Ť

My only issue with the design is the slightly heavy look it has at the back. IMO it would look better with slightly less bodywork directly behind the rear wheels.

Even though I strongly feel most Ferraris since the 355 haven't been beautiful (I like 599, and the front of the Cali), this one isn't too bad from most angles (still not beautiful). The "mouth" is however, completely unforgivable.

I like the 'mouth'. It certainly beats the over done Macca F1 style intake at either side of the nose or worse still the Formula 1/generic single seater style nose and front wing 'look'.

I wonder where they'll place the front number plates on cars sold in regions where they're mandatory?

"The mouth" does look better in yellow than it does in red. Those shots above definitely bring out the best in the car, it looks great.

What's the deal with the sticker-looking plates I've seen on some sportscars in magazines? What's the call on that? Seems like a reasonable alternative to actually mounting it somewhere.

I'm not sure to be honest. I've seen F40's and NA MX-5's with 'sticker' number plates before, but don't know how legal they are. It might be one of those issues that the police know is technically illegal but turn a blind eye to.

I have a suspicion that the flat black area in the 'mouth', between the actual intakes that in these photos has the silver prancing horse on will be where the front plate will go. Removing the emblem obviously.

Even though it does look better in yellow, I still don't like it. It doesn't look like a Ferrari IMO. I bet if you took out all the Ferrari badges you could easily make this the new NSX.

Video released from Ferrari, I'm still not liking that front end at all.

You can watch it in HD if you click the link.

WOW!

Some Korean has slapped a Ferrari badge on one of their cars!

Seriously, Ferrari need to revise that back end.

Looks like the 458 is going to cost a lot more than the 430 according to some leaked info on Autocar...

Base price (ex. local taxes) €163k/£150k... so around £176k inc. VAT GULP!

Extras are expensive too...

Metallic paint ÂŁ2153
Colours from the '50s and 60s' ÂŁ6459
Racing harnesses ÂŁ1860
Racing livery ÂŁ5140.
20-inch forged aluminium alloys ÂŁ3207
Coloured brake callipers ÂŁ779.
Leather headlining for ÂŁ458
Electrically adjustable seats ÂŁ2016

Sounds like it would be quite easy to end up with a ÂŁ200k car!

When the California came out, and was priced the same as the F430, they did say that when the F430's replacement came out the California would become the cheapest car they sold. So it's no real surprise.

Even so... ÂŁ200k for the 'baby' Ferrari is a huge amount of money... it comfortably becomes the most expensive car in its class.

It's 30-50% more expensive than a 997 GT2 (spec dependant)

I think Ferrari needs to make a car devoid of all the electronic gizmos and make a pure bred car (like the F40). And not price it way above competition.

Porsche always gets the nod from me though over a Ferrari.

That's because we're thinking people. Ferrari is all about how it makes you feel and look. That's the Italian way.

^You're right about that. I like German sensibility over Italian passion.

At the moment though I can only afford Japanese efficiency.

IMO, A SUPERCAR should be all about the passion and the feeling it gives you inside though...not about how sensible it is. If you want something sensible just stick with something simple, like a BMW or Lexus. I doubht any Porsche (GT2 and GT3 included) will hold a candle to the feeling that the F458 Italia will give its driver. I have to say, Ferrari really stepped their game up with this one! Can't wait for the full performance stats to hit the media so people can pick their jaws up off the ground  Hopefully my old man buys one in a couple of years so I can enjoy it to :)

^Meh all this about talk about passion is just water under the bridge for me. I've never owned a supercar (hope I do in the future) so I can't really know what passion feels like in a car.

And I think the GT2 can hold a handle to the F458...but that's just my tastes...

The new F458 does look mean though.

Heehee. You called BMWs and Lexuses "Simple." Not with all those electronics.

Dude, Simplicity is a '90 Miata. or a Corolla GT-S, any version. Something with fuel injection, real shocks and springs, and not much else.

 I agree, a Miata or Corolla is about as simple as it gets. But relatively speaking, a BMW or Lexus is much more basic and practical than any Ferrari on the market. And I don't think most people who can afford a car well into the 6 digit figures are realistically going to settle for some $5,000 bucket either

Personally if I was spending $250k on a supercar I wouldn't be too worried about how sensible the thing was, and if I was worried about having something sensible I would just spend say $30-35K on a IS250 and not worry about how practical the supercar in my garage was :dopey: Might I add that the IS Lexus' are pretty damn reliable as well as the lower end 3 series (325i or 330i), not to mention BMW takes care of almost all of the routine maintenance for free under warranty đź‘Ť

Just a random question - why don't these journalists ever wear helmets on track tests? They're throwing the autos around just as hard as at your average trackday, where you wouldn't even consider trying to get on-track without a hardhat.
