Jon Sibal makes render of Ferrari 458 GT2 (as in it's not real).

Brace yourself for big ol' dose of sexy. Ferrari hasn't exactly made a secret that this is the last year for the F430 GT in the American Le Mans Series. With its days numbered, more than a few souls have begun meditating on what will come next for the Prancing Horse's ALMS teams. Most have settled on the notion that the new 458 Italia will make its way to the paddock in race guise, resulting in a 458 GT. Fortunately for us, one of those contemplative souls just happens to be the design guru Jon Sibal.

Sibal worked up a quick rendering of what the new bruiser would look like, and we have to say we're smitten. The lunging lines of 458 Italia lend themselves well to an even more low-slung race stance. Throw in a few aerodynamic tweaks, a new set of shoes and proper rubber and you've got a genuine heart throb. Sibal says the rendering is just a quick shot at what the car looks like – we'd can't wait to see what happens when he takes his time with the car.

Isn't the 458 aluminium bodied?

Anyhow, whilst discussing the GT2RS on another board someone posted a link to some performance figures for the 458 which are outrageous...

Weight: 1533 kg
Top speed: 328 km/h
0-100 km/h in 3,3 s
0-160 km/h in 6,5 s
0-200 km/h in 9,7 s (!!!)
0-250 km/h in 16,0 s (Enzo: 16,1 s)
400 m: 11,0 s (213 km/h)

If accurate, they are all fairly amazing - pretty much as fast as an Enzo and taking the 'baby' Ferarri's performance to an entirely new level.

The 0-100mph (160kph) time of 6.5s is 0.3s quicker than a 997 Turbo S, despite the Turbo S getting to 60mph 0.4s faster... so the 458 covers 60-100mph 0.7s faster than the Porsche... astonishing.

For perspective, a McLaren F1 was timed at 6.3s for 0-100mph by Autocar back in the day.

Not sure how the Scuderia/Stradale version can be significantly faster than that.

Yes it is aluminium bodied....

The dry weight by the way is 1380kg...

Other than this i think all other figures are spot on mate, amazing car...👍

Several Murcielagos on Wrecked Exotics supposedly caught fire because the owners failed to follow the break-in procedure for the brakes and pushed them too hard, too soon. Maybe the same thing?

I'm wondering if the 458 might suffer more from a similar exhaust issue that was on the F430, than what the Murcielagos suffer from.

And what problem is that? Being too hot and too close to something easily flammable?

Jeremy didn't realize that on the left side of the dash, wheere all the stuff about tire pressure and tire temperature, at the botton, was a digital speedo. The dash is perfectly fine, if you read the instruction manual, which no one does.

This weeks Autocar has 458 v GT3RS v M600 v Lexus Supercar.

458 gets a pretty glowing commentary.

What a car, too bad the dash is a mess. For over 200,000 you would expect some common sense.

I love the dash in the 458, personally. It is completely driver focused, which very much appeals to me. In the Top Gear test, Clarkson's complaint about the indicators, for example, is kind of invalid because it is unlikely that you would be using them when you already have 180 degrees of lock wound on.

Never driven around a roundabout before? I use indicators when my wheel is wound a long way around

180 degrees of lock makes for one tight turn...And I'd imagine a Ferrari has much quicker-ratio steering rack than most cars.
