Congratulations to @BrandonW77 for a very long awaited, and we'll deserved finish to take the win in the 2nd race.
Knowing how to control the pace, and fend off early attempts, keeping cool and remaining focused to the end has finally earned him he name on the wall of champions...

Edit... And deserves this ;)

:Dcongratulations @BrandonW77  I hope you're not turning into BrandonW1st :sly:.
those high five pictures killed me

Thank you King, it was a very satisfying win and it's nice to finally have one. Sorry to hear about you're untimely passing, I'll try to refrain from funny pics/gifs in the future. :P

So, I'm trying to figure out what we're going to do next. I have a couple ideas, one of them being parity racing a-la DeadNutsEven but with a bit more focus. Has anyone done parity racing, and would anyone have any interest in it? The TL;DR is that everyone tunes their car to meet a certain lap time and top speed so everyone on the grid is literally equal and anyone has a chance to win. It's more about racecraft and strategy than outright speed and it can be very fun and intense. Some of the benefits: people can tune cars or drive stock cars, you can use a gated shifter without being at a disadvantage, very simple to put a field of different make cars together for a diverse grid, everyone can win instead of the same handful of drivers, the pack usually stays close throughout the race instead of getting strung out. It takes a little more effort to get a car sorted but the plan I'd use would go a long way to minimize the time needed.

Thoughts? If there's any interest I can spell out more details.

Yup, I remember we did it on WRS using DNERC's formula. That was quite fun 👍

It definetely sounds interesting but I'm not very good at tuning. I don't like touching the setting because I don't really know what it's going to do and I don't want to make it worse than before.

That's kind of the beauty of this method. All you really need to do is add ballast and remove power to get the car where it needs to be. If it's too fast, add some weight and remove some power until it meets the time. If it's too slow, slap a turbo or ECU upgrade on it. There's no need to actually mess with the various component settings, but for those who enjoy doing that they're more than welcome!

When I did this racing in the past I kept my car as stock as possible, just adding weight and adjusting power to meet spec. So I got to enjoy driving a (mostly) stock car, which is my preference, while others got to tweak and tune to their heart's desire. My plan would involve setting out a group of 5 or 6 approved cars for a given event(s) and those cars would already be fairly similar in speed/power/lap times so it would just take some minor adjustments to adapt them to each driver's speed/ability.

That's the method I used as well 👍

I suck at tuning too. It takes ages to get a car feel right.

I have just 3 tuned cars. One of them ready two still heavily under construction. Any chance to get free pass to join with pet car :D

I dont mind getting a PP penalty or something I just want to drive the car that is perrfect for me :embarrassed:

First of all, I'm sorry I missed Tuesday night's race and congrats to @BrandonW77 on eventually achieving that elusive and well deserved win! A big high five from me. 👍

I'm involved with a couple of S.N.A.I.L. series which run on Sunday and Wednesday nights so, between those races and practicing for them, I probably won't be as regularly available to race with you guys as I was.

Thanks Brandon for organising a very enjoyable series with the prancing horse cars and to everyone who competed so fairly. You are a great bunch of guys to race with and I'll drop in when I can if that is ok.

Depends on the car? And yeah, heavy "tuning" shouldn't be necessary as all you'll be doing is making the car slightly slower or faster by adding/removing weight/power. I'm rubbish at tuning and actively dislike doing it so don't worry about having to do much. 👍

The basic concept I've been tossing around is that each month will have a theme-based group of cars that everyone will pick from and "tune" accordingly. There would be probably 3-6 cars to choose from, you could pick your favorite and race it all month or choose a different one for each week or even drive two different ones in the same night, depending on how much time/desire you have to get multiple cars dialed in. Examples of themes: GT3 cars (there are at least 4-5 for people to choose from), Vintage Muscle Race Cars, Muscle Street Cars, European Street Cars, AWD Cars, Estate Cars, Low-Powered Cars, Movie/TV Cars (60's Dodge Chargers chasing 60's Shelby Mustangs through city streets. :sly: ). I'd gather together a group for each theme that are already fairly close in PP/HP, in theory once you get one dialed in for the first track it should be easy to adjust it for next week's track which would minimize the tire required to get a car(s) prepped to race.

I've already done some basic testing with the GT3 and Vintage Muscle race cars, they're already very evenly matched so it would be easy for everyone to dial their chosen car in to the required lap time. With the Vintage Muscle cars the transmission does need to be adjusted, but that's a good thing and makes them a lot more useable. Maybe we can do a proof of concept test after we finish with the Ferrari's. I'll work on getting a group of cars together and let you guys know a track/target time to shoot for and we'll see how it works out.

EDIT: We'd use the same format (2 races) and schedule (Tuesday and Saturday) as we've done with the Ferrari Festival.

Sounds interesting, however would that mean we only use the "pre-approved" cars, or can we go way left field within those categories if it meets the time standard?

Hmmmm, not sure. Part of my reason for wanting to try something like this is that I've always wanted to recreate some of the racing events I've watched on tv or in person over the years and that's part of the reasoning behind the themes. I would say that as long as it has some kind of loose tie-in to the theme (and doesn't look totally out of place on the grid) it would probably be ok but I'd prefer it to be run by me first. For example, if we're doing GT3 cars then a GT2 or similar late model race car/touring car would be ok, but a NASCAR wouldn't be.

And it would depend on the theme. Some (like GT3) would have some flexibility but others I'd want to stick to a certain group of pre-approved cars (like vintage muscle race cars, of which there are only a handful). But a theme like Vintage Japanese Lightweights could be wide open and I'd just set a range of years (1960-1985 for example) and maximum weight limit and anything that meets those two criteria could be allowed. 👍

To expand on part of the reasoning for the "pre-approved" cars I'll relate my experience in DeadNutsEven. They allowed pretty much any car to be used (there were some restrictions on mixing awd cars with normal cars) so I'd find a car I wanted to use and start trying to get it to the spec time. There were plenty of times where after 30-40 minutes of "tuning" I still couldn't get the car to meet the spec time and would have to start over with a new car. This could be a bit cumbersome, time consuming, and frustrating and could potentially deter people from showing up regularly.

By having a small group of pre-approved cars, I will have checked them ahead of time to make sure they can be "tuned" to meet the spec time/top speed. This will take a lot of the guesswork and prep time out of things for the casual driver. My thinking is that anyone should be able to grab one of the approved cars and get it tuned to spec within 20-30 minutes or so and then that car will be pretty much ready to go for the next few events (some minor adjustments may be needed for new tracks but it shouldn't be much). For someone who has more time/desire for prepping they can "tune" more than one of the approved cars and then can use a different one each week or even use different ones each night. For those who don't have as much prep time they can get one car ready and use it for the duration of the theme.

But also, I'd really like to be part of an all GT3 grid, or a "Can Am" type grid, or a Vintage Le Mans grid, or a BTCC-inspired grid, or a grid full of supercars, and especially a grid full of Estates, all evenly balanced where any car/driver has a chance of winning.

In a series with tuning will there be tire restrictions? I, like many others have been living with a tuning allergy for some time and upgrading tires seems like one of the fastest ways to improve lap times.

Tires could be one way to make things work. DNE allowed two different tire compounds but it was for a slightly different purpose.

To clarify, by tuning all that's really necessary is adding/removing power and/or weight. Tinkering with suspension and LSD bits would not be necessary at all.

Good lord. I've already had images of Katy bouncing and jiggling through my head all day, which isn't a bad thing at all! But, while I'm only familiar with one of her songs, that one song has now been running through my head all day too, and that's not a good thing. Luckily, the only part of the song I'm familiar with is the part where she goes "oooooh, oh, oh, oh, ohhohhh", so I can make it work. :sly:

Giggity.
