Yeah I don't know if I should be racing on sm if it means I can win the race. It almost seems like cheating. Just tell me Brandon if I shouldn't use sm tires or not. It's just with sh I was running like 2:14-2:17s.

@MC-Chase can't race on Saturday but he can still be my bouncer.

New to this thread, and I would love to participate. Only problem is, I`m not home right now. But when are you arranging the next race? I would love to participate then. 👍

Yes, we race on Tuesday and Saturday, same car/track combo both days and then a new combo each week. Send me a FR and we'll see you in track soon. 👍

Alright, I'll read the OP's more carefully ;)

No worries. It's something we're trying out in an attempt to bring the back of the pack closer to the front. Most of us were on SH but I let a few of the slower guys be in SM so they could keep up. Worked pretty well so far, almost too well today. I couldn't quite catch Daddyo even when I was right behind him, but I think that was partly to do with what seems to be virtually no slipstream. Even when I was behind a car on SH I barely got any tow on them at all, certainly not enough to overtake (safely). I think turning the slipstream up to Weak would help equalize the difference between the two tires. Daddyo was a tad bit faster on the SM but I would have been able to overtake him with just a little more slipstream. The Weak setting is still pretty weak and won't drastically increase overtaking, but it will make overtaking a bit more likely and help keep the pack together.

If the majority isn't too opposed I'd like to try slipstream on Weak at Brands this week. If it turns out to be a draft-fest we'll go back to Real but I think it will make for more exciting racing. 👍

Here's the last three laps of the 14 lap race. Congrats @daddyo845

^ notice the magical boxes on the last turn of the last lap. :sly:

Fantastic fun today, that really wore me out. Wish I hadn't dropped back at the start of the second race, seems foolish in retrospect, but oh well. (:

I'm not opposed to weak slipstream. I felt a tiny bit of tow when I was fighting with @GTsail290 in the second race, but it wasn't enough to get a good run (plus he was placing his car in a perfect defensive position 👍). I hardly had to change my braking point at all with a tow.

Maybe we should have a practice race before Tuesday to try it out.

I can probably be around tomorrow late afternoon/early evening EDT to test it out and do some practice. Maybe Monday evening too.

Awesome vid Brandon 👍. That just really showed how intense it was. About me on sm, I feel like I'm in a real trouble area. On sh I don't think I have a chance at doing well at all but on sm I think I may be a little too quick. Also Brandon, can you just permanently switch me to Saturdays please. I just think that Saturdays will work out better for me and thanks Brandon and kling for giving me one of the most epic races of my life. But be completely honest with me Brandon. Do you think that I should run sh?

I'll definitely be doing some practice tomorrow somewhere in that time frame; haven't turned a lap yet in next week's car.

So glad it is at a track I love; today's race was tons of fun, but I still really dislike the Nurburgring GP track. :yuck:

Not sure. If turning the slipstream up to Weak tightens things up just a bit than we should be fine. Things could be different on the next car though, it's FR and easier to manage so I'm going to ask everyone to start out on SH and see what kind of times you're getting. After I get some good laps in I'll report my times and we'll use that as a bench mark, if you're not within a couple seconds of that time then try SM and see if that brings you closer without going too much under. I think we'll be looking at the 1:35 range. We'll probably have to take this on a car by car basis.

It's one of my favorites, probably top 3. It's where I do a lot of testing too, it has everything you could want in a track (slow turns, medium turns, fast turns, cambered turns, elevation changes, two long straights, multiple passing zones). Even better now that it has time change. 👍

I think I improved leaps practicing for this event. I was stuck at 2:15 on SH for a long time. TCS helped for a while and a day before the race I turned TCS off and improved my best lap time form 2:12.8 to 2:12.2. So I was happy to notice that I was actually faster without the TCS.

The first race. I could not believe I (barely) kept up with @KingKlingeling and @amarynceos in an equal car. I did small mistake that did not affect my position. But having gotten used to having more powerful car to compete with these guys it was my high point so far in GT online racing to be able to keep up with them.

Second race was different. I was so tired. I think I nudged 3 different cars in turn one. After a while I got back to pace until wife called something which could not wait which distracted me enough to spin, so I thought might as well see what she wanted...

On the positive side I was happy to notice that I can keep up with the veterans if I put the practice time in. On the downside, this car is bit too much to handle for me. I seriously consider keeping to the low powered cars a bit longer improve my consistency if that is possible.

^I think these MR's make you be a better driver, and it will carry over to other cars. The F430 is the tamest of the MR's which is why I started with that. We will be staying with some of the lower powered and easier ones for the first few rounds so everyone can get experienced with them. 👍

I think you're right Brandon it probably would depend on the car. Also maybe if I had practiced more I may not have needed to use sm. the only practice I got for the race was the practice we got in last night Brandon.

Haha, after years of watching F1 at Nurburgring, 'multiple passing zones' is not something I associate with the track. Definitely more true with GT cars, though.

I'd probably like it a lot better without that damn Arena section. Not so bad in a race car with good front end, or in a low-powered street car, but in the understeering F430 (least MR-like MR I've ever touched) that whole section was just a chore. :P

@Cu3e -- I noticed you right behind us, that was good work! 👍 Myself, I was pleased to keep @KingKlingeling behind me for so long, might have held him off the whole race without a stupid mistake at T2. :(

We must have different driving styles, I really have no understeer through that section, very neutral with a bit of oversteer. At this track it helps to stay on the black (rubbered in) line as it has more grip, if you get off the black line it does start to understeer. I used to hate the track but somehow it became one of my faves.

I'll have to study the replays to see what other people were doing, perhaps I was just driving it wrong. For me, there wasn't any place where I didn't have understeer; the closest I got to oversteer was I think turn six, the left-hander leading into the Ford Kurve, and even there I plowed a lot. Back end got loose if I got on the loud pedal too quickly, of course. But I never could get the front end to bite in any satisfactory manner.

I had understeer in the first part of the Schumacher esses and occasionally in the Ford Curve if/when I got my entry wrong. The turn before the Ford Curve I could often back it in like Valentino Rossi.

Let me just get this straight, the arena section is turn 2-4 correct?
I'm sorry but I'm really bad with section and turn names of real tracks. Half the time I don't know what your talking about . I only figured out what the Schumacher Esses were because I was suffering the same issues there as you guys were

Correct. If you look to your right when you're going through the esses the big red wall says Schumacher Esses. The Ford Curve is the downhill right hander after the arena (also has a sign to the right) and the Dunlop Hairpin is the hairpin after the Ford Curve. 👍

Correct.

Turn name knowledge comes with time; I've been watching motorsports for a while now and you just pick up names as time goes on. Plus I have strong geek tendencies and study a lot of track maps to memorize names.

Just took the 'Daytona' out for a spin on Brands. Wow what a difference, much nicer handling than the F430. Beautifully neutral most of the time, responsive and nimble, just the right amount of understeer when you go in too hot and oversteer when you're too aggressive.

Going to take some practice to find out the limits on some places, especially Westfield and Sheene Curve. I've got to do some studying to find the right line in Surtees, too -- haven't bothered to learn it properly yet, time to do some digging on youtube for onboards. ;)

I'm with Daddyo, Have no idea what any sections are called. I just call it, "I hate this 🤬 turn!":lol::lol:
I guess I should pay closer attention to the rest of the track. Looks like it was a good time again.

I'll be getting some practice in with the next horse!

@amarynceos Surtees like a wide, thightening approach, I usually downshift half way through and then start to unwind up the hill. Westfield is pretty straightforward, just beware the curbs on exit. Sheene Curve wants to kill you no matter what car you're in, I take it very gently and just try to survive, minding the curbs/sand on exit (when possible). I have the hardest time with Graham Hill Bend, feel like I'm so slow through there.

See right there I have no idea what you're talking about . I'm gonna guess right now surtess is the third to last turn? Westfield is turn 3? Sheene curve is turn 1? Graham hill bend is turn 4?

I only know a couple, I have to ask the Great Googke about the others. :dunce:

 0/4

I see Brandon has posted a track map, saves me typing it all out. 👍

edit: Thanks for the tips, btw. Agree about Graham Hill, tricky bugger.

On the map: Clark is actually the bend further down, abreast pit in, and Clearways is where they have put Clark. Dingle Dell and Sheene seem to be roughly interchangeable from the maps I've looked at, though the BTCC commentators call it Sheene pretty much all the time.

And Hawthorne has an 'e' :D

Oh great I didn't get any of them right . Graham hill is hard in any reasonably fast car. Based on your descriptions of the turns Brandon, it makes sense because I have the same problems with those turns. Graham hill is always about brake point and turn in point. Surtees is anything a weird turn. You can't start on the inside or you will end up in the dirt. Sheene curve is tough. It's tighter than one might think and it's blind. It certainly is not a low speed corner. I really like stirlings because you can go faster through there faster than it looks like you can. Brands hatch gp is a wonderful track and its up there on my favorites. What is the name of the part of the track that's used in the Indy version that not in the gp version?

Completely unrelated to what I was just talking about. This is just an idea I have. You don't have to agree with it but I think it might be cool if on the last week of the month, we run a Lamborghini instead. Not this month of course. I know it's a Ferrari club but its just an idea.
