On what platform will you play FH3?

EDIT: There was a very noticeable steering delay at 30FPS until I found this tip on another site.
"If you are using a nvidia card, use nvidia profile inspector to set 35 fps (Frame Rate Limiter v2) under Sync & Refresh/Frame Rate Limiter and activate 30 fps lock and vsync in the game. There won't be input lag anymore."
Excellent tip, thanks. I hadn't tried 30fps before due to the apparent input lag, but now I shall certainly have a go, just to compare with higher FPS but lower prettiness.

To me, Horizon 3 is all about just driving and enjoying the views, so being able to use ultra settings is worth a shot :)

I've been running 4k at 30fps since I got the game. Even on high settings and no MSAA it still drops to 28/29 fps at the start of city races. The one rainforest race I tried was really jerky, may have to play those events on Xbox.

[EDIT] (i7 / 970 CPU/GPU combination)

I'm not happy with the way the game is running, usually it starts fine around 60-70 fps in high with a 4790 @ 4 + 970 but after 20-30 mn it goes down to 40 with high and lows goes up to 60 again but can go as low as 30. Had to stop playing yesterday cause it was gaving me headache, that couple with groove not wanting to play my playlist I decide to stop a bit and go back to the Witcher full time. I should receive my 1080 soonish anyway I'm gonna wait for that before going back.

One thing I've been thinking: Performance seems to have got worse since the game went fully live, both loading Drivatars in races and generally driving around. I'm wondering if the server overload since launch is hitting us in frame rates on PC, making things go slower than during the weekend?

I've had some time to try different settings... no matter what I try I can't get a consistent 60 FPS. Lowering resolution and detail doesn't make much of a difference - even 1080P and medium settings with my hardware will not be smooth, and anything lower than medium doesn't look too good.
I ended up locking (vSync) at 30 FPS, this allows me to run 3440x1440 at Ultra settings - looks very good but not as fluid as I would hope (60FPS is expected on the PC, at least for me). More or less XOne performance but at an UltraWide resolution (can't set the resolution on my XOne). I guess for those without an XOne, at least there's a choice.
It seems a powerful CPU is needed (i7 @ 4.0GHz is not enough), not so much the graphics card, for 60FPS.

Thanks for sharing, does seem the game is very CPU intensive but as we know a patch is coming lets hope this will not be an issue caused with the cross play functionality. I got GOW4 free with my GPU purchase and these titles were one reason to migrate to PC. So I ertainly look forward to it releasing also. It is going to look real bad for Microsoft if it also has the same download problems and issues with PC performance.

PC community has waited so long for this to come about, so really hope they have quick and working solutions coming.

The auction house is almost unusable after a certain time of evening. I've also noticed the slow Drivatar loading, saving setups etc. etc. The only good thing about the auction house being really slow is that hardly anyone is bidding, so you can grab HE cars for cheap. :D

Myself and a friend tried this. Both of us found that the random stuttering was way less after doing this.
Tried it just now - it did help with the stuttering. Still happens, but it seems less frequent. My game crashed about half an hour later. Dunno whether it's due to the supposed fix, though. Might just have been a random C2D.

So I just raced on the Goliath track for something more than an hour ... and then the game froze, after I finished the race. I am so 🤬 🤬.
As you might have guessed by my reaction, I haven't received anything. No money, no XP. This day is only about to get worse (nothing to do with the game though), I guess.

I assume this bug is responsible for this event ... how it was triggered? No idea. WARNING: Sound might be disturbing due to quite high-pitched noise.

And no, that's not my microphone or some background noise, this was 100% ingame.

The PC version is driving me up the 🤬 wall. As much as I enjoy the game, but there's just too much spoiling the fun.

It's good to see they are on it seriously. And let's remember its only two days since the 'proper' release.

Let us know if the 1080 makes a difference, I plan on upgrading at some point. I assume you will be able to turn up the graphic settings but it won't help with the frame-rate. If I watch my CPU load (i7 @ 4GHz), when I try to maintain 60FPS the load is much higher than if I set to 30FPS regardless of most graphical settings. Changing graphics settings doesn't have much affect on the CPU load. I could be wrong, but that's based on my findings.

So after a long 4 months of putting up with HD530 graphics, been waiting for a GPU, got my EVGA 1070 FTW installed today and been playing with the game for the first time. I kept it at 30 FPS locked for now and its running 1080p with all settings maxed I believe, no problems with 16 MSAA also applied.

Not wanting to mess with the unlocked or 60FPS modes till a patch arrives.
Only the very brief stutter even though the 30 framecounter does not budge.

i7 6700k @ 4.6Ghz / 16GB 2400 Ram /

The T500RS felt terrible on the initial race but didnt look into settings beyond default as just been using the XB1S pad.

I have an EVGA 1070 as well, but it's the SC, not the FTW. Have you tried overclocking it yet?

I've not tried my T500 with Forza, but I imagine it will be similar to the T300. I recommend trying 80% for both vibration and forces, and upping the steering linearity slightly (I went from 50-55%) to give a hint more response around center.

In reality you have to tune your FFB settings for good off-road feel and accept that tarmac will be rather lacking, although it does vary per car.

No, will need to find my way around the EVGA software but its only been in the system a few hours.
Just played this game and nothing else yet.

Will look into the wheel settings at a later time as well @skazz .
but even better if I find someone with the T500 and already using good dialled in settings.

I personally use MSI Afterburner, but EVGA Precision X does give you additional leeway, like in voltage modulation.

In the Logitech Profiler (Not sure what the Thrustmaster equivalent is) I have the centering spring enabled (only for FH3) and the strength at 75%. This makes the wheel feel a little more alive, it's not great but it's much better than the default setting.

Okay. So I locked the game at 30fps, and turned off V-Sync. My CPU went from 100% to just 28%. I can even max out the other settings and it has little to no effect on my CPU. Does this mean they patched it, or something as simple as frame rates have such a massive impact on CPU? I'm very confused.

I will try locking at 60fps again and turning V-Sync back on to see what happens.

My post above was on this same discovery. 60FPS hits the CPU hard.

Okay, I've done some testing. I locked FPS to 60 again since for some reason there is a considerable delay on steering while on 30fps, and CPU went to around 57% and stayed there for about an hour of gameplay. The 100% happens when browsing parts, designs or tuning and usually leads to the game getting stuck saving forever. Definitely something strange going on with this game. I'm honestly afraid of tuning my car, or customizing it since there is pretty much a 50/50 chance the game will get stuck saving.

This game does not need a small patch. It needs a major update and overhaul to whatever system developers came up with when browsing the auto showroom.

I really love this game but ever since it went live, it's just a nightmare to play. I killed the process three times already in just an hour.

Yeah, there is a work-a-round for the steering delay when locking at 30FPS - I mentioned it in post #267, worked for me.
