FIA GT 2010 Championship

Haha! Well, it appears the the Belgians are polite up to a point...he just stuck to shouting some stuff at him on the track and ranting about him to the interviewer. I loved his interview, no holding back.

Yeah, we are calm up to a certain point.

Seriously though, us Belgians are usually quite calm, but that reaction was a typical Belgian reaction. His rant during the interview was also strikingly familiar to me

Fantastic. I'm so hyped for Le Mans :D

Great racing still on the track, Bartels finally made it though...now has a mystery tyre rub? And the GT still holds station...but for how much longer over Turner in the Aston? 4 minutes to go...all to play for!

The Ford GT and The Young Driver Aston

If you watched the N24, ALMS, and the Fia GT1 then you'll have seen 90% of the LeMans GT line-up

http://www.planetlemans.com/le-mans-2010-le-mans-24-entry-list/

Technically 3 Ford GT's seeming Matech are entering two and Marc VDS is entering one. It's a shame not more of the GT1 field have entered, I know Phoenix racing planned to enter but pulled out because of the fire at Silverstone.

EDIT: Congrats to the Romain Grosjean and Thomas Mutsch! Also I think Darren managed to turn the race around for Aston, 2nd really isn't that bad. It's not what they wanting but considering the start it's pretty good and yet again Sumo Power in the top 3 👍

Agreed, I'd be happy for the GT1 grid at Le Mans to be made up of all the cars on display in this race, with all the GT2s coming from the ALMS race yesterday - who needs prototypes? 💡

I jest. Great finale to the race, that Maserati is a rocketship for sure, but a great finale with the Ford GT grabbing the win...who do we reckon could grab the class win at Le Mans?

The LM GT2 entry list is looking insane! Also, at least 4 Belgians to drive at Le Mans, wil be cheering for them for sure! 👍

Really hard to say, I didn't have Ford down for winning this one.

LeMans 3weeks and counting :)

 He was not a happy bunny.

EDIT: I think the one of them is Alexandre Premat from A1GP, atleast he was commentating yesterday I think.

It was Alex Yoong and Croft commentating on the website coverage for the last two days. Was it different on the channel you watched?

Yeah sorry my mistake, I just went onto GT1 site and streamed a bit of the qualifying and found it out. I must have caught the Alex bit and the fact he had raced in A1GP and found Alexander Premat instead and Bloomberg literally shows the exact same feed from the website (but it's about 2 seconds ahead on Bloomberg).

haha, awesome! I saw you lived in Norway and I sort've assumed you were Norwegian as well. Best of luck to the Belgians! :D

Still 3 weeks away?! I can't wait that long! Ah well, I've got Gran Turismo to keep me occupied until then...as well as the small matter of A-level exams, two of which are just 2 days after Le Mans :scared:

Mmm, wish I had the same luxury! I only have 3 of them, with two on the same day, 15th June. I'll be mixing staying up for the 24 hours with revision for the subjects...should be interesting!

Dammit, I was hoping Darren would clinch the win in the last couple of laps, the team deserve it after the pain of Silverstone and the weird starting mess up with Enge behind the wheel. Darren did a great job of keeping Peter Dumbreck behind him whilst keeping the pressure on.👍 A 2nd place is great though and as long as a Maserati didn't win i'm happy.:P Kudos to the Sumo Power team for another great effort.!👍

The GT3 race was excellent too, pity the success ballast on the R8's really penalised them at this track.

Nice bit of Deja Vu in both races thanks to the stewards also.;)

Hey Tommi! :) True, was good racing from Turner, the mess-up with Enge at the start was weird to say the least. I've never really respected the Maseratis...for me, they're not true road GT cars, they're almost like the Toyota GT-One from the late 90's, a race car just about made road-legal enough for the road to sell 25-50 cars to holmogate it for racing...not really in the spirit of GT racing. I mean, there's at least a half-decent chance you will see a Corvette, 911, F430, M3, DB9, etc out on the road...am I making sense? I might be getting a bit muddled. But I'm with you, I'm glad they were denied :D

:) I agree, it's one of the main reasons I dislike the cars. The MC12 road car is technically a supercar not a GT car. But I wouldn't want them to leave, they clearly perform well, are at the height of great battles and at the end of the day keep the grid size nice and big.;)

EDIT: It's the vitaphone team I have a particular dislike for. Their dominance last year(Old regs. aside) kinda put the old 'Michael Schumacher & Ferrari' hatred on them.

That's not the same though. In 1998 a new rule was implemented that stated that for a team to be able to enter the Le Mans race, that car needed to have a road legal equivalent. Hence why there is the Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes CLK-GTR and the Toyota TS020 GT-One road going cars. It was never liked by anyone, thus this rule was removed in 1999. There is no point in producing many units of these road legal monsters anyway, because they are 1) incredibly expensive, and 2) belong in a museum rather than on the roads for their sheer beauty and engineering brilliance.

I miss Toyota in Le Mans. They always had staggering cars on the grid, and the GT-One was no exception, dominating the field already in its first year the GT-One entered Le Mans.

I prefer the GT3 class myself. I like the greater diversity in the cars. It's just missing a Nissan. Maybe a 370Z would be nice.

The MC12 is a Ferrari Enzo in a race suit by the way.

I agree with the thoughts about the MC12, it's shown in previous years how the car can completely dominate the sport and I suppose that gave for some fairly dull racing. However, now the Maserati still has potential to do well (as can be seen from it's performance over this season so far) but the balance of performance makes it more even for the other cars which is actually one of the reasons why I like the BOP despite some of mistakes made previously with GTR in particular.

And just a kind of personal note, I don't actually mind the MC12's maybe it's because when I went to FIA GT my Mum loved the Vitaphone's because of their paint jobs.

Oh and Tired Tyres, I'm not sure about a 370Z in GT3, they have one running in GT4 which is obviously more suited to the car. I don't think it would be able to keep up with the R8's and other cars that GT3 has to offer. Perhaps doing a slower version of the GTR for the GT3 racing would be a better idea seeming Aston Martin run the DBRS9 in GT3 and Corvette run a GT3 spec 'Vette.

True. It's like a custom-built prototype in spirit...but you are correct as well. It appears they have been reigned in a little this year.

Yeah, I realise that was the case...you're right, those cars were fantastic...except for the Mercedes CLR. Bit flighty, if you know what I mean :scared:

But those Toyotas were incredible pieces of engineering, how they didn't win the thing outright I dont know. I'm glad the current Prototype rules are creating coupe type cars which are similar in image to those old GT-ones and R390s (Lola Aston Martin, Peugeot 908 etc.).

I just think the MC12 was a little out of the spirit of the series, y'know? The series was all about production-based grand touring cars being stripped out and turned into high-speed racing machines for battle. The MC12 was built out and out to be a full-on racecar, with just enough tiny additions to make it barely road legal...y'know?

I'm getting an idea...maybe bring back an interim class between LMP and GT1...where cars like the old GT-Ones and R390s, and the MC12, could battle. It would be like production LMPs...or something like that? 💡

It was the very first race car I ever saw on TV, hence why I'm such a die-hard GT-One fan. I still remember the early morning I woke up, turned on the TV and saw these extraordinary cars driving around a track. I can also still remember how it was chasing the daylight out of the leading BMW, and it would've had a great chance of overtaking it, right until it had a puncture and was forced to pit.

Toyota never lacked pace, but reliability. As we've seen with Peugeot, it takes more than a year or two to be able to win Le Mans. In '98 they had a lot of gearbox difficulties, whereas in '99 they were heavily plagued by tyre punctures. Had they not stopped their Le Mans program after '99 I'm pretty sure Audi's record at Le Mans wouldn't be as impressive as it is right now. Because after all, it was in 2000 that Audi introduced their developed R8 that came from the '99 R8C and it was also in that year that all competition in their class vanished.

I see what your saying, your point is even more backed up by the fact that Maserati struggled to get a second time to compete, due to the rules and reg's each manufacture must have two teams entering, thus the reason why there are two of each team i.e. Sumo Power GT and Swiss Racing, Phoenix and Mad-Croc. Vitaphone were facing the possibility of not competing this year unless they could find another team to join them. They advertised this apparently but didn't reveal many takers due to the high running costs of the MC12. So they simply made another team, (Triple H Team Hegersport). If the MC12 was a production car made to be a good road car primarily and then track side based stuff coming later (like the DBR9, 'Vette, Lambo etc) then maybe it would be a cheaper car to run.

But yeah, the Maserati isn't really a GT car and when it originally debuted it had the same mixed feelings as Verita's is getting at the moment for trying to get into the GT1 series, but I don't think Verita's has made enough cars yet.

EDIT: Here's just something to bring to attention concerning the start up procedure. Enge is currently claiming that “The starting procedure was definitely not ok. I went already to the race director and told him about that." Whilst I agree the start up procedure was not correct, the green lights were definitely all on. However, a board on the side of the track was certainly shown I can't make out what it says but I can't think of any other reason to show a board other than for another formation lap. Teams wouldn't be showing pit boards, lap time boards or anything like that yet so that's the only thing I can think of. Here's a screen shot I took to show the board since you can only see it for a couple of seconds in the actual race.

Today the 2nd round of the FIA GT4 Championship starts. It's all happening in Spa this time.
Free Practices are already done.
Lucas Ordonez finished 2nd and 5th. I couldn't find what Tresson has done.

http://gt4cup.com/index.php

Lucas doesn't sound particularly happy with the car on his twitter, i'm hoping improvements will be made and he can get some better positions in qualifying for the race.👍

Natacha Gachnang(HUGE crash in Abu Dhabi) is back and will be participating in the Le Mans 24 hours and should be fine for the rest of the GT1 season too.👍

Thanks for the infos guys 👍 !

Seeing your avatar Tommi2000, I thought maybe some of us would like to see this video :

Have a nice day / evening !

I'll be looking at the race tomorrow, the first race should be about over by now.

Paul Meijer took pole position in both the qualifying sessions of the GT4 European cup meeting in Spa-Francorchamps. The Rhesus Aston driver was faster than Michael Mallock in both sessions, while third was for Lucas Ordonez (Nissan) and Raffaele Sangiulo (Aston).

I guess second and fifth made an overall third.

For Jordan Tresson, also look at Alex Buncombe, they share a car, mostly I believe Alex starts at this moment.

Yeah the livery is great, it's a shame GT2 isn't a part of the FIA GT championships anymore. 👎

Just back from Francorchamps.

First found the RJN stand:

Then looked at the race:
Lucas:

Alex or Jordan:

Result: Lucas 7th and Alex/Jordan 8th in the 2nd race. They are hopefull about getting it better, but there are some issues, technical, progress compared to number of races and in this race with punters. I'll write some more elaborate story and link it here.

Jordan got a trofee for best newcomer in the 1st race.

Other races were interesting too Lamborghini, Mosler, Viper, Vette, etc ...
