I'm all for a 90% rule, even a 70% rule makes sense. But what exactly do you think it should be? Because traditionally it would mean you are classified when you covered 90% or 70% of the total race distance. You are however classified in last position. It does not mean that you will get the position you had when you DC (or in real life have a technical failure).

In the FGTA our DC rule is as follows:

If the DC happens during the race it will be red flagged, if 70% of the race distance has been completed then the race will not be restarted and points will be awarded to drivers for their position at the time of DC.

Doesn't it leave it open for abuse, though? Say we are over 70% into the race and I see the guys behind me are closing in extremely quick because my tires are gone for instance. In that case I would have an incentive to quit the race and secure my position that I would most likely lose if I would continue.

Just a point for everyone complaining about servers, I have been doing online racing for 2.5 years now. I used to get DC all the when I was connected with wifi. I switched to hardwire and in a solid two years I've had 2 disconnects, 1 as part of a mass DC where we lost the whole room and one just regular DC. The servers really can't be all that bad.

The opportunities for abuse I really don't like, I mean at that point why not just make the main race distance 70% of the original?

How would you do red flag? What is the process
As soon as the DC happens, stewards will vote on mic (where poss) if re flag is called, then the remaining drivers should drive to the grid under yellow flag conditions (No overtaking). They will then park in order on the grid, without passing the control line. The order then get's noted along with laps completed (including lap on/ as good as complete).

If before 70% then the race will restart minus the laps completed with the effected driver starting at the back of the grid.

If after 70% then the finishing order is that at time of DC.

When the replay is watched it is surprisingly easy to see if someone has quit or genuinely DC'd, someone who is quitting to get a position would most likely be disqualified for cheating.

Would just end up in the same situation if someone DC'd at 69% distance

So if someone disconnects after 70% then race ends?
And if before 70 yes no overtaking and stuff

Exactly :D

In both circumstances drivers should proceed to the grid to ensure all stewards and the race director has taken note of laps completed and driver positions :D
