That Gyan's left foot strike was awesome:tup:

That's it Ghana is through...I don't think Uruguay has an easy task either

Well, who do you blame for this one? Probably the manager for messing up a winning team.

There's no reason why the USA should always concede a goal early in the game like that. It's ridiculous, and the luck ran out.

Dang it! :( :grumpy: It was fun watching. Now my hopes are with Mexico and the Samurai Blue. ---- Randy

I've been getting increasingly pissed off with ITV's commentary.

Tell me about it. Adrian Chiles telling me I should be supporting south Africa on the first game set the precedent for me. I think they just focus on a few teams they think everyone cares about, and the rest of the teams are supposedly there to just make up the numbers.

The BBC punditry, seems more football focused, which for me, is primarily what it's all about.

Well, the US team had a nice reaction, but Ghana was fast in the extra time and didn't let any chances for the US to win, Ayew is a incredible player, and very young too, he might become one of the best players in the world eventually.

It hurts no doubt, but all for 1 feel very similar by the very final whistle. Thank you US National team for showing much heart and Congrats to Ghana.

Loved both games last night. I'm ecstatic that Ghana got through, being the only African team left. And it was a bloody awesome game. Also great that they got in over the US, and not one of the 'softer' teams.

Uruguay game was great too; largely for the tenacity and intensity of the Koreans, but also for the way Uruguay played and their incredible second goal. I really find it hard to imagine controlling the ball and putting it in off the upright in those dreadful conditions (Saurez). That rain was incredible, and both teams did a brilliant job to ensure it wasn't a boring, mistake filled waste of time.

(Also happy cause I got both for the tipping comp!)

Best of all are the matchups from tonight:
Iberian derby, Spain v Portugal
Euro rivalry (I think they've had some disagreements in the past), England v Germany
South American football rivals, Brazil v Chile

4 1/2 hours to go till the big classic fight of the hate/love enemys.
this have allways been big games and were fought hard.

I hope to see the germans win. Being from munich my heartbeat is raising slowly till the game starts.

Go Germany!

A simulation using FIFA 09:

England 2 - 0 Germany

Two goals from Rooney... Germany missed a glorious chance to make it 1-1, but hit the post, the ball ran across the line and hit the other post before popping out again, and Podolski missed an open goal on the rebound (but he was offside anyway)...

Either 2-1 or 2-0 to England. Lampard to step up to the play and bag his first goal. Rooney also to score. If Germany do score it will be around the 80th minute just to increase the England fans anxiety levels ten fold.

No penalties. Hopefully.

If it goes to penalties David James to save at least 2.

If you can't tell I'm being optimistic.

Both games are going to be great tonight! Wasn't going to stay up since the first game will finish at about 2am (and I have to leave for work at 7:30 and plan on watching the other game before I leave) but screw it, world cup is only every four years.

Germany and Argentina to go through methinks!

I think Germany will win this one, 1x0 or 2x1. And Argentina will beat Mexico 3x1, though I would love to see Mexico winning this. :D

I play the waiting game now. Argentina is a formidable opponent, so I at least want to see Mexico put up a good fight. They (Arg) have what it takes to win obviously, but it usually isn't that easy for them to beat us. Let's hope that is the case today. :)

The game between England and Germany will start in a few minutes, it would also be a nice game to watch ;)

No F1 spoilers, please. Keep that to the F1 thread.

As much as I would like to see Mexico beat Argentina(love to watch Maradona's reaction) I just can't see that happening, the odds are against them, but will see in Football one never knows and this W.C. has been prodigious on surprises,so?💡

Haha, I also want to see his reaction to the loss of Argentina, if the odds aren't against Mexico

Well, that was bit of a soft goal. Route 1 from keeper to Klose. Where was the defense?

Great first half, the crowd was pretty mad at the referee for not giving the second goal to England. I hope the second half to be as good.

Thanks for the newsflash there, Ron Burgundy. It's been like that for FORTY minutes now.
