I was working under the slightly overly-cautious assumption that I may need to track back at any stage, in order to do something differently earlier in the game As it turns out, I'm not having too much trouble - yet - and I think that Chp XI will give me plenty of scope to max out my characters without having to do any backtracking!
so, is it a bit excessive to be on chapter 7 with: lightning (19815cp), fang(20159cp) and hope(20405cp) with the blaze fire saber ready to be morphed? and, yes, stage 5 is full for everybody on team atm.
i wonder how much CP snow has since he hasnt been in the group for a couple hours of grinding. sazh and vanile should have 3-4 times more than what the current grouo has since theyve been out of the rotation for a couple hours now at least and thats not counting grind time.
I wouldn't call it excessive because it won't go to waste. Nothing wrong with stocking up until you can move on in the Crystarium. If you want to know what to expect...
At Stage 10 half the nodes cost 30k, the other half are 60k.
To my surprised I beat the game last night. 70 hours total. About 7 or 8 hours was grinding for loot and exp. You would not believe the amount of extra loot and items I have that I could have sold.
Even more surprising than that, I beat the main enemy on my 2nd try and in about 7 minutes. I honesly didnt think I was ready for the main boss. I know I did a lot of grinding for exp but dang I didnt realize I was THAT powerful. lol The ending was great and the entire game truly was the best single player campaign GOTY 2010 so far. What an awesome ride from beginning to end. I really didnt want it to end but now maybe I can finish off some games in my backlogg pile. I just dont see anything competing with this game in 2010. Easily one of the best single player storylines I have played.
For those wondering, I beat the game with Lightning, Fang, and Hope. I was shocked that Hope was able to survive since he was actually a fairly weak character.
Question about the game....
Now that I am finished how in the heck can I get back to the level that was wide open?? I think level 11? It was the first major opening of the game where you had full freedom. I know that in level 13 there were 2 warps but I dont know which one to go into to get back to that level. I want to do some side missions and battle that one massive enemy that looks like a giant elephant.
I just got up to the chapter 9 boss battle that people were mentioning earlier, and i got Annihilated. I took out 1 of the heads and that was the extent of the damage, i couldn't get in any attacks after that, i had to keep healing or else it was game over once i tried to attack. I tried 2 times since it was late, i will go home and find a way to beat him, but it's the first time i REALLY felt overwhelmed. I had lightning, hope and Snow on my team, i think if i customize the paradigms a bit so i can have medics and attackers at the same time, i can maintain their health and still be able to do some damage. Also will try to equip some accessories to try and lessen the damage my team takes. Once he starts the barrage of attacks, it didn't seem to stop, i just kept healing, and healing and healing, when i tried to attack, i got 1 round of attacks in before i was almost dead. . Where there is a will, there is a WAY!
Yup just mess with the paradigms and you should be able to get it. A lot depends on your health too. Its simple math. If he does a certain amount of damage and you have less than that, then you are dead. So worst case scenero is that you might have to level up and come back to him. So there is always a way. 👍

I believe Lighting is in the 1100hp range, hope is 1060 or so and snow(may switch to feng) was at 1600hp. I will spend some time leveling up before i go back, i normally try to defeat most/all enemies in an area before i move on, but if i save and go back they re-spawn. I will try to spend 1-2hrs leveling up and go at it. I am a bit ashamed but i looked up a strategy to beat the ch.9 main boss, but after seeing it, wasn't much of a strategy at all. I may also look more into leveling up some of the Accessories as i haven't upgraded Any of them, only a few of the weapons.
I didnt use a stradegy guide for anything. Most of it was just grinding to have enough hp to withstand the major attacks. The other part of it is trial and error. Just mess with the paridigms and see what works well. Sometimes you have to start out building up your defense abilites, then attack. From level 9 or 10 I played with the same characters all the way to the end of the game. I just experimented with different paridigms until I found all the ones that worked well for me.
I downloaded FFXIII's "battle" music from iTunes yesterday (aka 'Desperate Struggle' by Masashi Hamauzu) and made the mistake of putting it on my iPod and listening to it whilst going about by daily business. I don't want to go into the details, but suffice it to say, I don't think I will be welcome back in Tesco any time soon . I will say, however, that the "boss fight" was particularly satisfying, and I ended up with 1 Shop Assistant Down and a free sandwich.

You should be at the save point in the bright white corridor after beating the game. One way leads back to the fights with Barthandelus and Orphan. The other way is a warp back to the place with multiple warp gates. The one back to Pulse looks like a valley. You should notice greenery and rocks. The other one is back out to Eden and it looks more industrial like the city. If you examine them they should say where they warp to and you can cancel out if it's not the right one.
^ Hmm strange. I went there and eventually came to a dead end. Oh well I will have to check it out again. Not sure if I want to continute with FF13 or take a break for a while to get caught up on my backlogged games.

I finally beat the chapter 9 boss. On my first attempt on starting up, I was being very cautions, really keeping the HP of my team High, but it took a LONG time to try and wither down his health. Since i took so long,
The bastard cast DOOM on Lightning, so since i was being too cautious, i wasn't fast/far enough into the battle and he had 1/4 life left before i Died.
After that i went to level up, and pretty much got level 3 for all the available paradigms for all the characters before i went back to battle, and i upgraded lightnings weapon to level 9 as well. My 2nd attempt i had him down to probably 1/8th of the boss's life and i got cocky, so when he did his
Destrudo attack
, he killed Lightning!!!!. Was my fault for not paying attention to the timing. So finally on my 3rd attempt i took him out. I was way over the target time, by about 7-8 minutes but was just glad to be over with and move on with the battle. The somewhat story twist and cut-scene after that was a great reward. Really makes you wonder what the truth is.

For reference, the strategy I used for the chapter nine boss was to
Max out the commando role for Lightning, add Sazh to my party for haste (extremely useful in this fight in particular), and I think I used Hope as well. Additionally, I put the potion augmenting accessory on Lightning, plus something defensive, and maxed out offence for the others, as well as upgraded Lightning's Gladius to lvl 15. The strategy of the actual boss fight was go start with a paradigm that had Sazh as Synergist for haste, and then switched to Relentless assault to kill off the heads as quickly as possible. The longer you take to kill off the extra heads, the more damage they will do, so it is in one's best interest to kill them off as fast as you can. For heals, I used potions (very useful with improved potions) or switched to a healing paradigm when in dire straights. Finally, I found that if, when he is getting ready to use destructo, if you continue attacking as much as possible, you will eventually have a sort of 'stagger' effect on his final attack, which reduces the amount of damage you take by a significant amount.

I used a similar strategy, although i didn't think to use Sazh for his haste abilities! That would have made it less painfull and would have probably met the target time. I was using Lightning, Hope and Snow. I started off as medic/sentinel/synergist to get the defense up, then used libra on all of the (4) heads. I then switched to a Ravage/Ravage/Ravage set-up to get the Stagger meter going, then switched to Commando/commando/Ravage and quickly took out each head one at a time. As you said when he goes to do the Destrudo attack, i just kept hammering hime with commando/commando/ravage and it does stun him for a second (you hear him groan) right after the groan i switched to a medic/sentinel/medic set-up to heal the party members for the attach, and then again after the attack. From then it was just repeat the process, using the item (doctor accessory that gives potions 300hp healing instead of 150) so i could quickly heal and keep attacking.
I didn't meet the target time but i did take him out without too much problem.
For many, it seems the music in the Final fantasy series is integral and enjoyed enormously along with the graphics, story, and gameplay.
Since I am on my second play through, I noticed I enjoy it every time this piece of music comes on (snow's theme), it always gets me pumped for battle.
On the less important, the more Star's you get, the more your Technical gauge increases at the end of a battle.
More importantly, the likely hood of an enemy to drop their spoils increases significantly, also the more stars, the more likely they are to drop their rare-drop item. Obviously you can still win a 5-star fight and pick up no spoils, but over a series of battles, the difference became obvious.
In fact, the other day, I found a power levelling spot in which I could get a relatively high CP, in a 4 second battle, which is obviously 5-stars. After repeatedly grinding that spot for a good half an hour, I realised that if you get 5 stars, you are actually more likely to get the rare drop item than the normal item. Of course, that's if you don't have the collectors catalogue equipped.
I played a little more this weekend. I finally made it to Gran Pulse!!! Although it still doesn't have a fully free roaming game-play feel (although it's your choice to proceed or do the side missions), it's much MUCH better than the totally linear game-play up to so far. I have been doing a few of the mini side missions and leveling up as i go doing each one, have been trying to stay away from the main missions. Want to get a bit stronger before the next serious encounter.
Whoever replies to this, use spoiler tags so it doesn't ruin it for anyone else, but at any point do you get an air-ship/scooter or something to roam around the globe?

I havent played this in several weeks. I still love the game but I have taken this opportunity to get caught up on backlogged games. I will get back to it for sure some other day and see if maybe I can pick up some of the achievements. I still havent looked at them yet.
I've been playing this as often as I can, and I quite like it I'm a bit surprised Some levels (if you can call them that) are worse than others, I don't like the team being split up so much. I'm only up to chapter 6. It is quite different to previous games a lot less team management, looking forward to it opening out
I am a bit bummed out. I took a bunch of pictures of the last levels of the game. I went to load the pics yesterday and I guess somehow they all got erased. I told Heather that once she gets to that point to make sure to take pics. I wouldnt have loaded them on the site anyway without spoiler warnings. But still wanted to have the pics.
How long did that take you RouWa? I've stopped for now, since I've got past the story, to finish up other games I hadn't even started. I'll get back to it after completing AC2, unless I decide to pick up the GTA episodes. I'm hell bent on platinuming FFXIII.
