Final Fantasy XIII

120 hours. If you know which enemies to farm and how to defeat them quickly, you can do it in 80 hours. The trick is to immediately farm GIL instead of farming CP. You get tons of CP by defeating the enemies that give you GIL, so pure CP farming is a waste of time. I didn't know that before.

I finally got around to play it on PS3 now... basically it's day and night compared to 360 version. Funnily there's some things looking better on 360, but generally the PS3 version is much more detailed and game play (camera) makes more 'sense' somehow.
I still don't get the fighting system entirely  however... do you really (really?) need to upgrade your weapons in order to beat some enemies actually? I think it gets much too difficult much too fast, kinda frustrating. :/
As said before, 360 version still looks very good. My guess thanks to the ATi card, it looks almost smoother, too.
Personally I'd never ever buy a Nividia, but that's just me... :)

I actually think you answered you own question in that highlighted part above. Yes you need to upgrade your weapons for sure.

Ah ok, I thought so, but it was a serious question as I was used to the system from VIII, which we discussed earlier. I really liked that you only needed to press a button (if even) and everything else was optionally, cause I'm lazy ;). Granted it became boring after a while. Ok so I will upgrade...

Can anybody tell me the truth about this game? Iv heard so many mixed views of it i dont know who to believe! Basically, i liked the story of the last one on PS2, but i hated the battle system and the way the monsters could be seen wandering around. It was just a stupid way to take the FF series. Loved FFX and it's sequel - to me their battle systems were the best ever(although FFX-2's one wasnt as good as FF9 on PS1). FF7, obviously, was and still is the best FF ever. My ideal FF game? Marry the PS3s awsome visual power with the game structure and battle systems of anything FFX or before.

The best way *I* could describe it is a cross between XII and X-2. No world map like early FFs, enemies are out in the open like XII. The battle system is similar to XII, sort of. You can put it on auto-battle, where you pretty much just hit X now and then, or you can pick which attacks to use. You can change roles, which is where X-2 comes in. It's almost like the dress sphere system from that where changing "outfits" changes the abilities of the characters.

It's NOT like FFX and earlier, and if you expect it to be that way you're going to hate it. I personally loved the game. Played it for hours at a time without getting bored. I often found myself saying "alright I'll stop when I get to the next save point" and I'd pass by 2 more before actually stopping. I went into it with an open mind and without the expectations that it was going to be FFVII. It's not for everyone, so I'd recommend renting it if you really want to play it. If you dislike it you're only out a couple bucks. If you think it's worth it then you can buy it without regretting it.

Thanks for that. Personally, i wont be getting it. Not even renting it. I knew that if enough people complained about the random battles of past FFs, SquareEnix would change it - for the worst in my opinion. That's why FFXII is the worst one iv ever played. And to see from many reviews that XIII is even more limited and linear has confirmed my fear - the final fantasy series is dead. A far as im concerned, FFX and it's sequel X-2 are where the series peaked, and for me ended, but on a high note. Those idiots who complained about the random battles have got a lot to answer for: they have effectively ruined and killed the FF series. Well done, morons. If SquareEnix want to bring it back to life, they need to re-introduce the random battles, give us a huge world to go where we want in, and give us an actual game to play. Too many cutscenes and not enough game - that not a good game make.

I don't know, the more I play it the more I like it. Actually it's the first time I play a RPG that I think deserves the name...
The battle system is really tricky and very well thought out imo. Graphics are outstanding and everything's really smooth.
BTW I finally beat the eidolon where I got stuck on xbox version within 3 minutes. :P No clue why, but on xbox I tried for a week or so and couldn't get past that point.

WHAT!!? Skip the cut scenes? Some of them are epic!! You have to stop skipping those things for sure. There are a few toward the end of the game that are incredible. If you miss those, you will miss some of the best cut scenes I have ever watched in a game.

xD I don't skip them all, just when there's more than one I get bored easily. :nervous:
I agree tho they're made really good, just it takes too much time imo, I want to finish the game someday. ;)

You are trying to rush through the game way too fast. The faster you rush through it, the more this game will eat you alive. Thats why you are having a hard time with the enemies, and if you are having a hard time now, it gets MUCH more difficulty. You will have to grind for exp which means taking your time, leveling up, and upgrading weapons.

I agree, you definitely need to take your time to be able to play through the game at a good pace and not get angry(owned by enemies). Leveling up is a must especially if you want to beat the target time for battles. If you are skipping the cut-scenes you are basically missing out on the MAIN part of the game. Sure the game-play is fun and beating up baddies is great, but for me personally you play these games for the storyline. Not that i'm telling anyone how to play the game, everyone enjoys different things, but RPG's in general are story driven games. I have reached Gran Pulse (think i'm about 32-34hrs into the game) and i'm starting to get my butt whooped again, so i will need to take some time to get stronger before i move on without struggling. I just got Vanilles Eidolon which i believe is the last of my group of characters. i have taken a break, haven't played in a few days but i want to get back into it.

My favorite final fantasy are ff3 for snes and ff7, i do miss the world map and traveling etc. This new installment is very linear. It opens up a bit when reaching Gran Pulse but not as much as i have hoped. Just looking forward to seeing the true "focus" of the group and how it all pans out. :)👍

This, my favorite FFs as well. And I'm really missing the world map traveling. Just got passed that Barthendulus (had to do extra battles to gain "levels", Haste helped a lot, utter recomended).

Just have to wait to see Grand Pulse...

Yeah, you're right, thanks for the tip. I guessed that already, just had a hard time figuring out how upgrading, etc. works, but I think I got it by now. :)
I read that you get some of the items very rarely, that still bothers me a bit as I don't want to waste those.
However I beat that eidolon quite easily, which makes me more confident now.

Dont get me wrong, i love the cutscenes in every FF game - they are an integral part of the experience and should NOT be skipped. But it's when the cutscenes start to overtake the actual game(MGS anyone? Kojimas a dick) that's when i start to get PO'd. A good FF game needs to strike a balance. Give us good cutscenes, sure, but give us an equal amount of game to go with them.

Just out of curiosity, your name and picture - is because you own a Camaro? JEALOUS! Love American muscle cars, but my favourite is the Camaro. Know its nothing to do with this topic, but just thought id ask.

Need help yet again! :)
OK I upgrade whenever I can and my crystarium(?) levels are regularly upgraded, too. I even fought the nasty motorcycles :P, but now I'm stuck yet again...

Don't know actually which level, but it's around level 7 I think, after you go a second time thru the city with a different team. I'm now at something looks like a cave where the enemies seem to keep respawning endlessly, so you can level up easy. However when I proceed, there's this huge thing with machine guns and about 50000 HP... so how do I beat that thing and how long should I keep farming before I go into that fight? What tactics/ paradigms should I use and do those enemies ever stop to respawn? :scared:

thats the boss for the level. you should destory all of its attachments, likes its guns and etc, before attacking the body.

I seem to remember that the party for that fight is Fang, Lightening, Hope. If you are struggling to survive long enough to get anywhere, start the fight with hope as a synergist, Fang as a Sentinel and lightening as a medic.

Once Hope has protect in place on all party members, switch to a new paradigm with Lightening as commando, Fang as sentinel and hope as medic. You should be able to cope with the damage, if not, switch to combat clinic (fang and hope the same but lightening as an additional medic) temporarily to restore health. As someone previously said, go for the side weaponry, it should fall fairly easily and after it does, the battle is pretty much won.

Oh cool, now I know what to do ^^ I knew I had to
be very defensive, just not how exactly, it's a bit too hard for me to figure that out sometimes... I beat the motorcycles in the city which where pretty mean too, but once I figured it out it was fun.
I didn't get the chance to play today, but I'll try morrow. :) Thanks!

I did it on first try with this tactic, thank you so much Stevisiov ! 👍

Another unrelated question: Am I the only one getting signed out of PSN a lot while playing FFXIII? I have a feeling it could have to do something with trophies, I think I should've got the one for unveiling 100 enemies attributes for ages... sometimes I play for hours and don't get signed out, but then it's every 3-5 minutes.. very distracting.
I do get the trophies for progressing through the levels tho.

Slightly off topic but replying to Hybrid,
The first PS3 I had a couple years ago did that to me. It would actually disconnect my router. And now here it is 2 years later and my new PS3 did the same thing the other day. It shut my router off. Mine is hard wired, I tried it wireless with no luck. If the problem persists, I will make a new thread about it.

Hehe, yeah I have the same problem I think. It starts getting annoying. IMO it's either something to do wit the accespoint from ISP, or something wrong with PSN actually.
Since my internet is super-awesome on my PC, I guess the latter. ;/

We are at the same stage H20. I finished chapter 7 last weekend, its difficult to play during the week busy with work and stuff. I've found that the characters have really opened up in chapter 7 and I'm really enjoying the game now. I've been sucked in! The slow opening kinda makes sense now
