I was sure to do very well here.
It seemed oddly that i was able to do the fastest laps in any session, and i was also quite good at not crashing,
all due to the 24 hours Race we ran with our Storagetrunks team in the Gt3AM class at Daytona in Jan,
ref GTPSS Series.

So i felt that without trying to rush into the lead, i would be able to take it steady and be up the front near the end when i would really push hard if required, so all sounded easy.
My car was setup with almost no down force, and the Hsv was quick anyway, but mine seemed very fast.
After the 90 minutes it took to actually get started, we had bad lag, but is part of the reason i prefer a staggered start or a pace lap, as i know a pace lap or 2 often lets this settle down.
So it did settle and we all went for it after the 2nd pace Lap.
Having Eraser in front was quite difficult for me, i felt i could have him early on, but having only ever seeing him pass me,
i felt a little scared, like going into unknown territory.
However i did have Monkey and Filo very close behind, so i felt i may have to push hard earlier than i felt i would.
But Erazer ran wide in Turn 1 and i was in the lead, Yipee.
So i was in control, i had the pace i knew, so i just settled down to lapping around mid 1.40s being careful through the bus stop and trying to keep the gap behind no less that 2 seconds.
As one by one they closed then made mistakes, i had a few different guys come up front for a visit during the first 15 laps.
I was very very sad to see Paul leave, and afterwards Crazy John too, i know they spend a lot of time in practice, and to have to wait 90 minutes to get started, then to go after 12 minutes does make me feel bad.
Of course, i then had a visitor who stayed around, Aug of course, so i just tried to keep him a couple of seconds back and that worked amazingly, and i didnt panic.
Then around 40 minutes Filo joined us and pestered Aug for several laps.
We all did our pitstop around the 45 minute mark, and i was sure to come back out in the lead, but hey presto, i thought the timing had gone wrong, as Filo was 15 seconds ahead an pulling away.
I hoped he had not found a way to use less fuel, as clearly his stop must have been very short, but as laps went by he increased his pace and was up to about 30 seconds ahead by around 75 minutes.
I had Aug go past me, after a little bump on the left barrier exit of turn 1 but was with him as we came up to 80 minutes, and Filo then did his 2nd stop and came out behind me and Aug, but just in front of Erazer.
With 5 minutes to go, Aug led, then me just 1.5 behind, and Filo was now flying and closing us down quickly.
I decided then to really push on as i knew i could, and pass Aug, and take the lead, and leave Aug to hold off Filo.
But all my amazing speed was not there, i just could not get close enough to Aug to get in his draft, as i then realised that most of my awesome pace was on the straight, but the engine and dropped 26 bhp when i looked at the end,
and the speed i needed just was not there.
So i really pushed like crazy and with 2 minutes left just managed to get into Augs draft, with Filo now almost in my draft.
It was on the penultimate lap, i had to take the chance and drafted past Aug well before the bus stop, but i did not want to move to the right as we got closer, although i was sure i was clear of Aug.
So i went in a little shallow and a little slower than usual, and just a little on the grass edge and whoosh, round i went, and Aug went by, and Filo went by, and i got sorted again, and followed in 3rd.
Then Filo passed Aug, and there it was.
I really felt l let this race win go, if i had pushed on a bit when the bhp was still there early on, i would have been
quite a few seconds ahead, or in the barriers maybe.
Anyway, i really enjoyed the race, and was great to be up front for a change with the big boys.
It certainly makes a huge difference even at Daytona, to Q up near the front, and to not have traffic and cars squabbling and slowing each other down while the leaders move ahead unhindered.
Delta, i am sorry, you were the only DC in the race, and we now have a ban on entering the race room while the race is on, i dont know why i did not think of it before, as i know your connection just about hangs in there when everything is good, it only seems to take another slightly dodgy connection to join and off goes Delta, so apologies about that.
It shouldnt happen again.
Lastly, i know there is so mush waffle on race night, about open lobby rooms, and non club rooms and fixed hosts etc etc etc.
As you all know i insist we all go through the whole reset procedure before joining the race room.
It may or may not make a difference, but i like to think it does.
In the club lobby now, for two 90 minute races, we have only had 1 DC, and that was delta Dcing when John rejoined.
Race 1 had 13 start and 13 finish
Race 2 had 14 start and 1 DC
Next week, i would rather we had no messages once in the race lobby about, open lobbies and fixed hosts etc etc etc.
We will use the club lobby, and if we cant see each other just wait until everyone is in.
When everyone is in, then i will ask drivers who can see or not.
If you cant, then i will ask those one at a time to rejoin, but please wait until we are all there. and i give the message.
