When I went on last night, I encountered the trolls and cheats too, seemed to be out in force sadly. Ended up meeting a certain Canadian driving a GSXR/4 once again, no doubt the one
@ROCKET JOE encountered, who was a loose cannon as always. Would race seemingly cleanly on the first lap, but then suddenly turn dirty, usually making a mistake in the process. As usual he'd then go backwards, wait for the leaders and try and sabotage their/our races
. In the end, most of the night was spent jumping from one room to another to avoid these jerks.
Anyway, is the midst of all this, I decided to try out some different cars myself. One of which was my '93 Zenki S14, which turned out to be surprisingly competitive, if a bit too tail-happy (but was huge fun
). Also tried my '96 180SX/RPS13, and Hyundai Genesis too, both of which were comfortable mid-pack runners, but good to drive. However, on the subject of tail-happiness, I decided to bring out my Spirra Prototype, which I knew was quick, but a bit lively and difficult to drive. Anyhow, decided to try it, softened the spring rates slightly, and adjusted the accel. on the diff, and was pleasantly surprised to find being really quite stable and quick. Whilst it was still a bit edgy, it was nowhere as lively as it is normally, and was very controllable. Got 2nd in each of the races I used it, behind an absurdly quick Gixxer, was running solid 34's in traffic too.
However, whilst all seemed lost with the trolls and what not, the last lobby I stumbled on turned out to be a gem. There was about 7 of us, and only one Gixxer (and an Alpine VGT amidst things...), but everyone was very clean and respectful. Especially one guy called SMOKM_44, reminded me of _hsh in his driving style; very quick and very respectful to race against. Was very patient, didn't make silly moves, and super clean to top it off.
I brought my S2000 back out for this room, and with him in his CSL M3, we seemed to be virtually inseparable pace wise, since if we weren't side-by-side, we were nose-to-tail
.
And this super-closeness was reflected in our last race, where on the last lap, coming out of the last corner, I made a little mistake and got sideways, allowing him to make gains and come alongside as we chased for the flag. In the end, I just managed to pip him to said flag, beating him by .035 seconds...
He was just a pleasure to race against, as was everyone else in the room, and it made up for what destined to be a disappointing night with all the trolls, but it just showed there's plenty of people willing to race, and race well at that 👍.
