Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

I had a few races of attrition last night where every gixxer pass came with a bit of grass feeding, wall bumping and having to dodge their determined short cutting. Gave them an inch and they took the whole track off me with every pass.

Red mist descends and I leave to grab one of my quickest cars. An evil look appears on my face when I see my GSXR that only comes out for time trials and before I know it, I'm sat 5th on the grid with the same dirty field, only there are now 9 gixxers in a 14 man race. Nail the start and somehow I'm in 1st to the chicane. Take it perfectly while watching 3 short cutting from the start () but I have an easy run to the hairpin. That was the last I saw of any of them with a 4:32.5 total. Before the next race starts, everybody quits.

Even mediocre drivers have a chance of winning in the gixxer so you can't really blame them for choosing the best car. It must be upsetting for them to realise that they're not really that good. I had one the other night - 12 car field, 5 of them gixxers. At the end the highest placed gixxer was 4th. The rest were way down. That made me smile.

I ended up in a room with 5 gixxers last night, 3 of whom couldn't drive and the other 2 were cheaters. As we've all noticed, nothing is sweeter than beating a cheater ( ooo that rhymes! ) in those annoying buzzing bees. I may have said it before, but I don't get this chicane cutting. One of the jerks I run across a lot is actually pretty quick and can often turn better lap times than me. He just resorts to cheating and eventually takes himself ( and other folks ) out.

I'm fine with them choosing it, not so fine with how they use it. They should at least have learner plates on so we know we have to give them a wide berth.

Had to smile when I read this, well done 👍 ! Actually something I hoped and waited for !

Old story same emotions on my side.
Bugged by so many SRF users at the Mazda Roadster race at Tsukuba with one last day to go, I finally entered with SRF on :mischievous:. Was lucky because three of the worst notorious candidates were there ... and DESTROYED them :D. 6 sec gap. One left during the race.
Interestingly, one of them never had SRF on since then ( as far as I can tell ). I don't know if it was that particular race to make him change his mind, but hats off anyway. Fun racing with him now.

@MOPARbarrett5
Good show as always ;).
While watching this I realised that there is some very very cool side-effect to your videos - think I will message you on PSN tonight ( cest ).

BTW what about some flashing multi-language text overlays saying e.g. WELL DONE 👍 or CHEATER 👎 or ... when you recap at the end ?

Can you tell when the quick matches will change to different races?

They change when the seasonals change, though some last more than a month. Trial Mountain has been going a long time now, I expect it to change in a week.

They usually change with the seasonal A spec races.
Maybe PD forgot last time ... or goes on minimising resources on GT6. My bet for the next change is 8 days from now.

Over 6 weeks with the same 3 lap races. It's like living in a sweet shop with diabetes now.:ill:

Luckily, @StirlingMoose kindly donating the wheel has given my son and I something different to do. We're both crashing daily still but we're slowly starting to crash less. I'm getting through inhalers quick though.

I had a first very shy look at wheels and wheelstands yesterday ( thinking ! ) ... with no space at home, no clue at all and afraid of being hopeless for months or years. I'm not ready yet for upgrading from DS3.

I actually thought you were already on a wheel. You've always been crazy fast and consistent.👍👍

My wife is moaning like hell as I've mounted it on the carcass of an old set of drawers in the lounge and it's ugly as sin. I've been looking at some small DIY cockpits that I could make work from the sofa though.

I'm doing a bit better than my boy as I've been driving for 30 years but it's a hell of a transition judging everything off the wheel without the feel of the seat. Tricky to spot the clues through the feedback on what the tires are doing but I've no idea what to do with the settings yet. It goes to show how decent the DS3 is for feel though. My son is going to stick with it (wheel) as he doesn't know any better but it's good fun for me to chuck a couple of laps of the Ring in. No HUD, in car view and a few tunes queued up. I can definitely see the attraction but it's tough teaching the old dog new tricks.

Crank em up to 10. Torque and Feedback. Sensitivity I leave as is. Power Steering off. Standard 900 degree rotation for me.

I tried starting that high but struggled to keep the car in a straight line. 4-6 without power steering isn't too bad for the odd time I've been on it but I have to hold back a bit in the corners to keep it on track. I'm not healthy enough to put in the time it needs to get used to it though. I've got to stick with the DS3 but my son is a new player and can practice a lot more with it.

If anyone sees me in a different vehicle than usual, I have a plan taking effect.

Intriguing. Mystifying even. I'll be looking out for you.

I remember the TT thread where everyone thought their wheel's were going to disintegrate. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to try it.:D

Just remember there's no warranty on that old G25. It will shake itself to bits. Especially if you use maxed-out settings. I was comfortable with much lower settings. Depends how much of a he-man you are. If you are looking for a stand the wheel stand pro is pretty good. It's sturdy and reasonably priced, and you can fold it up and hide it in the corner. The only drawback is the centre pole which gets in the way if you want to right-foot brake and use the clutch.

You got a PS4 / GT:S compatible wheel ? Which one ?
I know there's other threads but any recommendations ?

I decided on a T300RS GT edition after much deliberation. I've always had logitech wheels before and they are pretty solid. But the G29 is basically the same technology as the G27 and the G25. The T300 is belt-drive and definitely smoother. More expensive though.

Here's what Tigney had to say. I'd trust him.

Thanks to all of you who replied to my wheel thing. Every hint is much appreciated.
Still don't know if I'll go that way.
