Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

... Sorry.

Yes, the FORCE was with me :odd:.

Joke aside, that's really nice, I appreciate that, but hey, you don't have to apologise.
Of course I will wait for my chance to overtake cleanly ( if it ever comes ). Not because it's you, @StirlingMoose, but because you're a part of the race. I think everybody's got the same rights here, the right to defend position in this case.
The only time I forget about sportsmanship is when I get trolled repeatedly - this leaves me without any more respect !

Guys, I have to give playstation, steering wheel back to friend, so today will be last evening I will be racing with all of you great, fast people in Monaco!
I enjoyed this 9 months a LOT!!!
Thank you guys!!!

Was a good few races I had when you popped by. Had a tough ordeal to quick up with your mighty quick Series One mind, especially with my '99 NSX's slightly sideways tendencies, though it's more than likely down to my ability . Had a couple of frustrating races where I finished at the back, where I made a mistake on one occasion on the last lap, and on another occasion, had a race ruined by a guy in a Gixxer who chopped us off, and when I got back up through the field, I got side swiped by a certain corner cutting Swede in a ZZ-II at the first corner, spinning us out in the process .

That said, there was one instance which was really quite satisfying: A guy by the name of Tommie-something or other, who was in the red 365 GTB/4; who wasn't the cleanest of drivers to say the least, clearly didn't like being caught, and overtaken by us, since when I had a run on him coming onto the back-straight; thanks to a good exit, and the NSX's straight line pace, he decided to run us against the rocks when I pulled alongside. I got a bit of a tank-slapper, but somehow kept it in check, to stay alongside going into the tunnel, where he then side-swiped us as we come out of said tunnel, but got a penalty for his efforts. Needless to say I felt rather pleased, seeing him get the karma he deserved :mischievous:. What was funny, is that I saw him flashing his lights at us in the mirror as I pulled away , honestly, some people...

I can't relate to this mishap enough, it's really sad how some people are...

I thought I was the only person dealing with these types of people in the quick matches. I wish online racing lobbies gave the same amount of cash that quick matches did. Then you could easily kick those who lack the sportsmanship. The reward in the quick matches are nice, but the races themselves to me are frustrating most of the time. Getting penalized for someone else's bad driving can be nerve-racking

Hilarious moment tonight. A gixxer in front of me had been lagging like crazy, jumping all over the track. I thought I'd got past him at the last turn then saw him in my mirror about thirty feet in the air behind me. Next thing I know I get a huge kick up the backside which sent me slithering down the straight at about 200mph. If ever there was a time to cut the chicane this was it. I certainly wasn't going to make the corner. I tried to get the car straightened up but failed and went spinning across the grass and into the wall. Rather spoiled my race but I had to laugh.

Ha! knee slapping, mouth wide open LMAO! Hilarious is the appropriate word StirlingMoose and NO, not laughing at you bud, laughing with you!👍👍 Many of us have - as they say - Been there, Dun That our friend!! We used to get so PI$$'d we'd gather our selves together, wait for the ghosted car to reappear and go after them (in your minds eye you can see it can't you!) teeth clenched, white knuckled grip on the wheel (or controller!) with fire spurting from our eyes usually only to find they've got that dirty driving down to a science and nail us again - but this time WE get the 15 second penalty and HE/SHE drives on leaving us sitting in a ghosted car foot planted hard against the floor waiting, and waiting, and waiting!! We finally get our heads on right, collect ourselves and remember there's really nothing lost - but our tempers - all we have do is collect the credits, hit the Red Man and live to run 'em again. Sometimes all you can say is "QM, Ya just gotta LOVE IT!"

We feel it partner, the fun of QM really isn't the credits, in fact many of us sorta wish they didn't pay quite so much 'cause it's kind of a PITA getting rid of them. The real challenge is trying to get a good car set up so we can run with most of the :mischievous:"bad boys 'n girls":mischievous: - if possible avoid their shenanigans:banghead: and WHIP 'EM driving CLEAN:cheers:. For them it is doubtful they even understand the concept but for we that do, sometimes get lucky and as Larry the Cable Guy used to say 'GET 'ER DUN!' cleanly our reward is a good feeling and we're satisfied we dun good. :)👍👍

... and the series one waltzed into the distance ...

Now that I've seen your Series 1 waltz right in front of me, I can state that you're a pro dancer 👍
Quite a good room and very fine races yesterday.

Some guys here already talked about the 'dark side' recently ;), so I'd like to say :
Welcome ... to the 'dark side' of the moon  !
If you stay positive, QMs can be very good practise.

I was sat watching my son (21) trying QM's for the first time yesterday but with having learned no race etiquette, he had me grimacing a lot. He wasn't trying to hit anybody on purpose but if he saw someone braking for a corner 3 or 4 car lengths in front, the lunge was always on. Mistakes out of corners had him over reacting and trying to dive back on line at the expense of people who didn't get the corner wrong and he had a really nasty habit of switching lines in the braking zone...

It was an eye opener for me as it really showed how wide the gap in skill level can be in QM's. He was genuinely trying to be clean but he was driving at 110% of his talent when he should really have been at 80-90%. If half the field in a full room is similarly skilled, it's no wonder a lot of people frown at QM's. I went on after him with a lot more tolerance for driver skill and had an almost stress free session. Quite enlightening.

@kilesa4568 I hope you didn’t let him do it on your account. You have a reputation to maintain. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume over-enthusiastic incompetence rather than malice. The number of wilfully dirty drivers is surprisingly low. Last night I had someone deliberately push me into the wall on the long straight and I was quite shocked. I think that has only happened three times in this QM, and that’s a lot of races.

I was thinking about the penalty system and the possibility of making it fair. The sort of AI needed to correctly apportion blame is beyond the technology available. (Even given expert human stewards with access to replays and telemetry data drivers, and observers, will still disagree about who was to blame - see Baku) @MOPARbarrett5 was pointing out in one of his GTSCB videos that it’s possible to increase your ranking with dirty driving, so things are not getting any better. I think that any penalty system that tries to apportion blame is doomed to failure because cheaters will always find a way to exploit it. As far as I can see the only way to go is a no-blame system. Any contact, above a paint-swapping threshold, would result in the same penalty for both cars, proportional to the severity of the impact. It wouldn't stop clean drivers getting unfair penalties but it would mean that no-one could ever gain from deliberately causing a collision. And it might make people think twice about making a stupid move when they know that they can gain no advantage over their opponent if they collide and they will definitely lose out to the rest of the field. It couldn't be any worse than what we've got now where it seems most of the time it's the innocent party that gets the penalty.

No chance of him using my account until he gets a little bit of race craft under his belt. I've given him a couple of ground rules like making sure of a decent overlap and if he makes a mistake, don't be desperate enough to block. He was still untidy today but he's cut 9 out of 10 lunges out and showing a little more patience. There's hope there. His name online is VW_FINCHY_VW or something close. Best to give him a (very) wide berth for a while if you see him.

Ha! I raced him tonight. I don't remember him giving me any bother. I had a good session tonight. None of you pesky blighters turned up so I had a chance of winning, and win I did, a few times. I wish my son (17) would show some interest. We used to play a bit when we first got the PS3 and GT5 but while I became more obsessed he lost interest. My neighbour said "That's an old man's game" when I told him I'd started playing GT5, and he's sort of right. It does require a maturity (not necessarily in years) to become any good. I've watched my son driving in GTA and it's terrifying. A combination of his co-ordination and reaction time with my ancient wisdom would be unbeatable. I suppose that's an alien. Maybe with your coaching your son will become one.

He's trying hard but he's at the stage with his driving where he's pushing harder than his skill allows. Once I can get him to slow down, he'll speed up with the extra consistency but he's woefully short of any track time. A shame there's no short cut for that but seeing as he seems to like the QM's, he should get some time in.

Raced with Digtater tonight for a few. I was on the receiving end of the typical smashes. Left when he did. Pjc414 :dunce:

"Raced with Digtater" should be "hounding Digtater." Gixxers are bad enough with how much they can close the gap in the corners but stick a driver like you behind the wheel and I need chameleon eyes to watch both directions at the same time. You had me patting my head and rubbing my stomach at the same time there.

Sorry for the abrupt leave by the way. Kids always use me as a free taxi.

Had a day off ( GT ) but enjoyed @kilesa4568 's truly nice and interesting write. I'm sure, with young people's speed at learning and that father as coach, we will soon see a new competitive racer on track ( if he stays interested at all ).
I'm quite lucky for that matter with my two sons ( 16 and 13 ). I don't expect them to be great racers ( they are more on the shooter side of gaming :) ), but since they've accepted that hooligan behaviour is annoying for everybody and that 'no contact at all' gets the big points, I don't have to worry anymore. And once in a while ( "Papa, are there new races ?" ) I'm surprised what solid performance they can have on track.

P.S.
During the PP600 Deep Forest Event six months ago my older one came up to me said : "Papa, I've got a new PSN friend, his name is @Daduce1947, he says it's his year of birth ... do you think that's possible ?"

I saw @Daduce1947 in a Quick Match at Trial Mountain Reverse last night. 👍

After a loooong absence from GT I'm back on some of the time now.
Through a bit of being rusty but more through never having spent much time at all learning the reverse layouts of circuits, I completely missed the first bend. I'd started on pole and there was a large field so I hit Start in the hope that I would ghost and avoid causing a pile up. Once the field had gone by I set about chasing and did manage to pass a few people (iirc, it was late at night).

@Daduce1947, you left soon after that. You were gaining on me during the warm up just before the race started. I had a whiteish creamish Mazda.

Sure is Joe, I remember meeting him but haven't seen him for awhile,, Mar 1947 so that makes me just a tad over 70.👍 Actually there's many, many others more elder than myself (our club administrator 'geezer1791' is 77) who are quicker, faster players in our GTP Geezers Club :gtpflag: - our message string is found in the "Online Racing, Clubs and Leagues" for any interested who are 60+. I've met a couple really good players in their 80's. So, the game is a fun way to wyle away the hours for all ages.

Hi Conformation and welcome back to the game. Very likely I got 'das boot' (disconnected). Even though my PS3 is hardwired to the router and have excellent speed disconnects happen. Usually, if I'm going to get dumped it happens just as I pull out of the pits on the warm up or while the clock ticks down for the start of the race. Concerning disconnects in the more popular QM events - I've discovered a trick that for some inexplicable reason works for me, I join one of the less popular events for one race, as soon as it's over I reattempt joining the event I want (usually a 'tuner' race) and I get in more easily. Strange as that shouldn't make any difference what-so-ever going through that exercise,, but it does. Hope to see you out there again :) 👍👍

I was trying to be nice. :D

That CSL ain't slow. Looks heavy in braking zones and at turn in.

I've run steady 32.5's with a 31.9 best in it so it isn't the quickest but it's beautifully balanced and a dream to drive on the throttle. Any little drifts can be corrected with a slight lift so it can hug the line or a bigger lift to take advantage of anyone running wide in front of me. It's also got a nice split personality. Just add a little Scandi flick before the corner.:mischievous:

He's 3 seconds (on average) per lap slower than me (in the same car) and he's keeping it on track. He's looking for a wheel though so he's setting himself up for an even steeper learning curve but I can at least teach him some race craft before then.

He can have my old G25 if he wants it. I've just got a T300RS ready for the switch to PS4 so it's surplus to requirements. Just pay for the postage. PM me if you're interested.

ME, I know. Won't take too long until I myself am eligible for the Geezers Club .
Only FURYINACAR ( my son ) just wouldn't believe it. Still a whole lot to learn for them young hoppers.
In case you miss him, look for him on the battlefields of the cyberworld .

We'll look for you partner. Most already have our PS4 and wheel and some of the games but like most are anxiously anticipating GT7 or GTSport - IF WE LIVE LONG ENUFF!! LOL! Once it's on the shelves we'll all be there. In the meantime (PS4) some are playing The Crew, some got lucky enough to be chosen for the GTSport beta (not me,, they didn't let me in tha rats!! :irked:), some are playing Project Cars or Asseta Corsa (sp) but some of us still enjoy GT6 the best and have a good time in our Thursday Geezer Rocking Chair and Saturday Geezer races. Never did get too buzzed up about the war games but that's just me. Been a motor head since a young teen and a fan of GT since the first edition. Have played many, many other auto games over the years (since 96 or 97 if memory serves) but GranTurismo is still KING in my book.

Haven't logged in yet - or checked GT message boards - but I'm assuming we have new QM and TT's so will be looking for you out there my friend!

WOW!! Those are awesome laps partner!! I've not run anything quicker than a high .34 in the LFA, lower to mid .35's in most others I've used. Reactions and being a bit tentative most likely is where my problems lie but thas OK, I enjoy seeing you gents rip the times you're posting

Good on you partner! Wish my 3 boys (or 2 girls) had been interested in playing but they just never got too buzzed up about video games like their old man did and IS. Now their kids are nearly grown or off to college, they're in their late 40's and early 50's, intent on making those $$BUCKS$$ and getting themselves and their portfolio's ready for retirement. Enjoy the time you have with him,, it passes so fast!

He's consistently running 35's ('09 Scooby Spec C) now but I won't let him use another car till he gets his line down and starts to feel how the car is moving under him a bit better. He's reacting a little slow when he overwhelms the tire's grip but he's quickly gone from walking to jogging and he's showing really good patience when things go pear shaped. Hopefully he'll stick with it when the improvements start getting frustratingly hard to find on hot laps but if his consistency keeps on improving like it is now, he should be able to punch above his weight against the worse driven quicker cars.

Good fun teaching him and it's really good to find a common interest between us. If he eventually starts beating my times though, I'll be sabotaging his tunes when he's not looking.:mischievous::lol:
