I want proof of a standard 150bhp Impreza, because I do not believe such a thing exists. Even the non-turbo 2.0 doesn't make 150bhp...

The 2.0R (NOT the older GX) Imprezas put out almost 160bhp...
The newest (hatchback) 2.0RX Imprezas put out just under 150bhp

So they do. I stand corrected on that (I was thinking of the older GX). But this fabled 1.6 producing 150bhp doesn't exist. The current 1.5 in the hatch makes 105bhp and the old 1.6 in the first-gen Impreza only made 88bhp.

And regardless I'd recommend that Danny stays well clear of Imprezas, even non-turbo ones. They're one of the biggest thief-magnets available and even basic ones cost a fortune to insure (because of the theft problem). If it wasn't for those problems they'd be perfectly nice cars even in non-turbo form but the risk isn't worth it.

Yup, group 14 for a 2.0L non-turbo is a tad steep, especially when you add in high servicing and parts costs and the power and fuel-sapping AWD system. As much as I love Subarus, they are not the car for the job here... Legacy, anyone? :sly:

Alfa Romeo 156.

Someone has got to take me up on the suggestion sooner or later.

Sorry guys my bad, it was the 2.0 rx:dunce:
But regardless, it claims to be only group 8:crazy:,put's out 150hp, and is 4wd.

Speaking of things that are cheaper and less fun:

Want space and aren't bothered by handling? Look no further. Although the rear wheel drive is a giggle in the snow. Plus you can sleep in it.

I can sleep in Red, the MX-3.

Come to think of it, I can "sleep with" someone in Red the MX-3. But it takes more than Tesco glass & mirror cleaner to get arse prints off the rear screen.

What a very dark place this discussion has come to.

It's fairly hideous too. It's not like the older Impreza Sports, that could be easily 'STi/Prodrive-ified', due to how extensive the differences between the hot hatches and the O.A.P movers are.

Since when is AWD in a 150bhp car a good thing? No wonder it's group 8!

On that note I'd check out the Pimera. I've recieved several comments on how comfy the back seats are in the Almera (Not suggestive, well, once it was) and it wouldn't surprise me if they were the same, as everything but body panels seem to be.

There's something odd about it. £695 for a large-ish family saloon that's held it's value pretty well. All the other examples I've found of similar age have been around £1.5k. There was no mention of milage though, although I imagine it must be sky-high, possible ex-taxi? But being a Nissan, would 100k miles be a major problem?

The mysteries of life.

Primeras, like Octavias, have all been taxis at some point in their life. In fact, Primeras have probably all been taxis in Bradford at some point in their life.

Engine-wise they aren't supposed to be too bad, though they still don't have the longevity of other Japanese marques judging by customer surveys. Toyotas, Hondas and Mazdas all seem to make appearances near the top of those things (as do Skodas) and Nissans usually seem to languish further down.

Well i rather have it than front wheel. Plus it will go like stink off the line.

Stink off the line compared to a 1.6 liter Impreza. Compared to a 150 hp hot hatch, it'll go like lukewarm water.

More grip is great, as long as you have enough turbo boost to counter the drivetrain losses. And most non-turbo Imprezas don't.

Not to say that a manual-equipped two liter Impreza is slow... but it's nowhere near as quick as some of the more sporting two liter cars you can get out there.

Engine power doesn't get you anywhere. Wheel power does.

150hp + 4WD = 112whp
150hp + FWD = 125whp

Not to mention the extra weight from the 4WD system...

125whp + 1200kg = 104whp/tonne
112whp + 1300kg = 86whp/tonne

The only stink is that of failure.

I have plenty of fun in my 150hp 4WD Subaru. Certainly more than i did in any large FWD saloon i had before it.

I don't know whether a slightly lighter version with a lower centre of gravity (Impreza) would be more or less fun?

What it'll do is either fry its clutch or bog down. Neither of which is synonymous with going like stink.

With full time 4WD you get very little drivetrain shunt or slack at all. You don't have to give it plenty or ride the clutch to get it off the line sharpish.

A new twist in the saga of Kermit.

The silencer is no longer...silent. Apparently the entire exhaust system particularly the manifold(?) is corroded and will need replacing. Which could be costly.
It's coming up to it's MOT next week and would be a fail as it is now...

I've decided to get that fixed and put the car change on the backburner for now. I'd get next to nothing for it in part exchange in the state it's in.

Gyuuh.

I'd expect the downpipe, but the actual Manifold? that's not supposed to rust through! Rust, but not through!

Still, it'll feel good to have that fixed. Much better low-range. :3

EPIC nay.

It's a Mk2 Astra built even more cheaply. If you want a Mk2 Astra, buy a Mk2 Astra. They're cheap enough.

Nay, unless your intention is to give it an honourable death in a banger race.

Go buy a VW or a Honda or something.
