First impressions PC2

@Cluck
my first impression is that chickens could have left my hard earned record at Knockhill on the 'cat alone... :P my first time on the car as well.

/OT though, is it me or the BAC is a monster? I love it... on the semi.slicks at least :D FFB on this one is something that everyone should experience I think. Try it around Long Beach and then on Portimao and Brno and...
Sorry* :D

I looked at the Sugo event and thought "nah". Tried my hand at the COTA event and stopped as soon as I set the fastest lap there (at the time). Went to Algarve but was seriously tired by that point. Went to Knockhill and just had such a massive smile on my face that I couldn't stop doing laps :D. There's still plenty of time to come out of that lap :)

*not really!

I couldn't get the ffb right on my Fanatec CSR to feel right at all. I had to set the sliders all the way to the right to get any kind of feel, regardless of which "flavor" I tried. And there was no wheel vibration at all, which as anyone who owns this particular wheel will tell you just feels dead without it.
It has been a conscious decision not to use wheel vibration, as it may interfere with the smaller FFB details. So a development decision.

And while the snap oversteer that plagued the first game has been mitigated somewhat, it's still there and still super annoying.
What car(s)? I've been throwing varying cars around and find rear end grip to be very manageable and predictable. That said, snap oversteer happens in real life too, depending on car, set-up and tyres.

And what happened to the 'ring? It seems so bland and lifeless compared to PC1. Yeah, not real impressed with the graphics tbh.
Could you indicate how the pC1 version was better? I know there was some talk about grafitti missing, but not sure if that's still the case or if that's what you mean.

So an hour last night (when I was far too tired) and this morning.

So far:

Set-up for the wheel, camera, etc took me about 30 mins and I happy with them for now, FFB is excellent now I have it dialed in for me on the T300. Much more communicative in comparison to PC1, which seems to be a combination of the better FFB, better physics and tyre model.

Overall it looks better than PC1 did on the PS4 Pro and the frame rate hasn't budged at all so far, including with a 30 car grid in the rain around Brands Hatch. Live Track 3.0 and how it deals with rain, the drying surface, standing water, etc is more than worth the trade-off in visual fidelity. That's not to say it looks bad, because it doesn't. However the shadow and tree foliage issues mainly shimmering) that have been noted are visible, fingers crossed they can be patched out, but in all honesty I can live with them given the frame rate doesn't take a hit.

I've started the career in Ginetta Jnr's and all is well so far, no AI issues yet, same with the couple of custom races I've tried, however its early days on that. The Merc Ice track is great fun, as is the RX, which is easily the best interpretation of it I've seen to date. Which is good as I had worried that they may feel a little 'tacked-on', but that's certainly not the case.

From a UI point of view its much better than in PC1, and I really appreciate that all options can be adjusted from the pause menu, made dialing in the wheel a lot, lot easier. HUD adjustment is a bit of a pain until you figure it out, and once you do its works really well. I am a little disappointed to find that UDP and external keypads don't seem to be supported and fingers crossed this can be patched in, as for me this was a real standout feature on PC1.

The photomode is a massive improvement over the one in PC1, very flexable, easy to use and capable of some great results. Certainly its going to get more love from me this time around.

Overall I'm impressed, as its hit the spots I hoped it would do for me, and the niggles currently seem to be minor and should be capable of being patched out.

Right I'm off to spend the rest of my day off with it.

First impressions from a standard XBox One are great! The controller control is soooooo much improved, really great to drive with it. Graphics look great as well, frame rate feels good. There is the occasional screen tearing though but if that is the small price to pay to have these graphics with this framerate then that's just fine for me!

My PS4 Ultra Edition arrived as well, going to play that one now on my 4K HDR TV and see how that goes. ;)

Sorry* :D

Cluck are these community events per platform or cross platform?

After fighting with some issues last night I spent another hour with the game this morning.
Much better and I love the game overall. Just need to sort the AI behavior in turn 1, some minor bugs here and there and I think we have a perfect racing game for years ahead. Well done SMS!

Just suggest changing default controller settings to the ones found in this video:

It made a world of difference to me and seemingly many others. Feels great, where as I was struggling with the defaults.

Quick Impression :

1. Love the racing engineer features
2. The Ginata is a lot of fun on the track. I am glad I didn't pick kart this time around
3. Skip to the end in Qualifying session makes the AI qualifying at god speed. Slow as hell during the race
4. I had to set the AI to above ACE level. Am I that fast of the AI is that slow ?
5. Why is the AI having such a hard time with rolling at the starting grid ? Even if I qualify 12th, I can still past 3/4 of them before T1,
6. Graphics are amazing. Love the rain+fog racing...that was insane. in the middle of race, the fog kinda clear up. That was A++++
7. The game was very stable. I had 0 frame drop and 0 crash.
8. My buttock is going to hurt in the next few days from sitting down and driving.

I tried it a few times but it did not work, today after work I'll try again. Thanks for the attention and quick response.
Be sure to have the TrackIR software running before starting the game. With 'start the game in Steam VR mode' I mean selecting the option in the game's start page in your Steam library.

I went to a dirt track with a multi-class race of six cars. I chose GT3, Road A, Super Karts and Group 6, the Group 6 car got stuck on a corner, the 720s left the pack in the dust, an RS01 crashed into the wall and I spun multiple times.

I got back onto the track and the super cart was right up my 488 GT3's behind. I had to be careful not to spin out either.

So my first experience was quite something, being chased by an angry guy in a kart, while slipping around in a Ferrari GT car.

I gotta say, I was very nervous before starting with all the wheel issues I've been hearing about. I'm very pleased as far as that goes here. Using the Fanatec PWTS on the PS4 with the drivehub and I'm loving it. It does feel a bit light around the center especially when the car is not under any load. IMO that's what a road car should feel like. I've always thought most games make the steering too stiff on road cars. All the FFB effects are there. You break loose and you instantly feel it on the wheel and it's plenty strong. Mind you I'm still on default settings.

One place I feel it's not up to par with what I expected is the way it performs on the PS4. VERY choppy and not smooth at all. I'm even debating trading in my regular PS4 for the Pro to try and remedy this. PCars 1 was much much smoother.

Anyone looking to see just how good rain is should start with the Ginetta Jnrs.

Three rounds in and I'm not sure I've ever come across a title that does weather this well.
Finish your first Ginetta season and as long as you've done 50 laps total you should get an invitational event at Snetterton in the Xbow R with rain and fog. Awesome!

That doesn't sound right, pC2 should perform on par at least. Are you sure the PS4 isn't downloading stuff in the background?

Mine ran fine, the only stuttering I got was during a mandatory pit stop with 20+ cars putting in, even then it wasn't bad, maybe 40fps at worst.

Running on launch PS4 for reference.

I agree with him. It's tearing a bit more and getting choppy at times. The slow corners at Hockenheim really affected the framerate on my PS4. I can see that generally the graphics are better this time around, with more detail, but it's not as smooth as pCARS1 for me. Any chance of bringing back the (dreaded) temporal slider to smooth things out and cut down on some noticeable AA issues?

I'm really liking the handling of pretty much every car I've tried so far, so that's a real nice improvement.

Spoiler alert! :P j/k man.

I started in Ginetta Junior as well, just finished the first round at Oulton Park. I was already impressed during the race itself how daylight was decreased (not dark yet) but there is this special lighting atmosphere over the track. :)

Small break now and then moving over to Knockhill.

Urgh, spoiler alert!!! :D

Those laps seem to count from practice as well since I already seem to be halfway through my Ginetta affinity and I only did the first round so far. But I'm doing practice and qualifying as well (and long championships), no rush at all to fast forward through since the next game is an estimated 3 years away. :)

I seem to only have the option of using a McLaren 720s at Long Beach....Not sure if I need an internet connection?

I am using a super old system right now, q6600+4gb ram and gtx970. Have anyone tried pc2 with a potato yet?
Think your RAM will be the biggest issue, but it's the simplest to upgrade, if you are short on cash. GPU is good enough, CPU is probably going to struggle, but may be OK. RAM is way too little though, for sure.

After a of hours of playing it I can safely say it's pretty much everything I was hoping it would be. Playing with an XB1 controller was pretty decent out of the box and with a few tweaks feels rather good. Really the only gripe I have so far is career mode races being limited to rather short distances, for instance Formula A seemingly only goes up to half-distance of a real life F1 GP.

The cpu struggles in AC, but not in PC1, the ram may be on the small size but I am not looking to upgrade becasue I downgraded to this potato this year to get my ass away form the pc :P
But would be cool if PC2 did indeed work like pc1 as pc1 was more about the gfx and not cpu like AC, but with all the new stuff that SMS have introduced now I am not that confident if this potato can run pc2 as good as pc1.

Haha... you downgraded to get away from it yet you are back to playing it? Might as well upgrade again :)

So last night was 'fun', new cockpit, new game, new car (McLaren) and new track (Long Beach IIRC?)

I couldn't figure out why I kept severely over-running the turns and slamming into walls all the time. I had to go into the settings and change the brake force for my pedals from 35 to 50. Then POOF, it was magic I could actually drive the car.

First impressions are positive. My CSR-E pedals w/CPX adapter got calibrated the very first try (this is why I stopped playing PCars1 - and never had any issues during the GTS Beta). The tires are pretty loud, really loud like if I just blow on the brake pedal they squeal like I'm overbraking. That said, they do feel really nice, great progression while getting them to temp.

The AI was kind of bonkers, I got a fast lap of 1:23.9-something and was .4 ahead of everyone with 2 mins left on the qualy. So I skip to the end, and BOOM I went from pole to 12th and everyone is 3-4 seconds faster...TF? Now during the race, their pace matched what they did while I had the pole, I got up to 3rd before I drafted and broke too late hitting some tires. I didn't really hear much of a THUD sound as I was probably going 50MPH I'm guessing.

While that was just the quick race, I did get a great sense of the physics and the first thing that came to mind was it's very straightforward and they aren't pulling any punches. The car is stable on exit when the tires are warm. NO spin-outs out of the last turn at LB, just nice oversteer. That could be the car setup, but everything felt right, just like in GTS: Beta.

Can't wait to get back out there and start my career!

If the tyre noises are too loud for you: you can turn them down individually from the rest of the audio in the options. 👍

Nice, I didn't have much time last night to really mess with settings but that's good news.
