But - If someone on your friends list simply has it set as their lounge track, you can enter their lounge and do testing there, so it just might be online after all.
Like me Onboy, I set Spa as standard. :)

Umm…CSLACR's shootout might have hit a snag. Since Spec 2.02, you can't use Spa online if you haven't bought the DLC, so even if you set it as your standard for people to join, you can't use it if you haven't bought it yourself. :grumpy:

That's a real burn on PD's part, not being able to use Spa without purchasing the DLC. A short sighted strategy on their part in my opinion. So any tuning contest that involves Spa might now have to canvass interested participants to see who has DLC and who does not, or just chuck Spa altogether.

It cripples use of Spa for those of us who did buy it, that's for certain.
Now we'll have to discuss in every league that wants to use it, etc. :yuck: Along with things like this.

I'll be in the think-tank, any ideas are welcome.

Well…a simple switch of tracks is the most obvious one, the Nurburgring GP courses perhaps?

To me, switching the track means switching everything. I was pretty hooked on LMP's at Spa. :(

I've got 2 ideas...
SuperGT's at Suzuka
400PP Comfort Soft's at Nurburgring.

I really, really like the idea of 400PP at Nurburgring. Krenkme's Monaco event is for 450PP though, yes? Even though it's for antiques, how would you feel about two low power events after one another?

Nope, Krenkme's event is 500PP.

I know my event has yet to start, and this might give people a head start, but I want it to run as smooth as possible so I'm going to post a rough draft and would love your feedback. If I missed anything or something is not clear plaese let me know. Thanks

Time Attack
A photo poll compitition will also take place, as well as a drivers choice
The Rules
This event will follow the F.I.T.T. Standardized Rules (found here) with these specific rules in place:

#1.) Cars are to be pre-1975
#2.) No race cars, RMed cars, Rally cars, or Tuner cars
#3.) Cars are to be run on Sport Soft Tires (or less)
#4.) 500pp is the limit the car can be at, but feel free to go lower :dopey:
#5.) NO power limiting (because I don't want it, that's why :D )
#6.) Weight adjustments (a.k.a adding ballast) is set at 75kg, no more.
#7.) Most important HAVE FUN!!!

How it works
--Tuners sign up and submit a tune by the Deadline, testers submit a time per car by the Deadline, and the top average speed is the winner 👍
--Tuners can also be test drivers
--A drivers choice will be made.
--Photo competition photos must be taken at the test track.

Deadlines
**Tuner & Tester sing ups start - Jan. 2nd, 2012
**Tuners must submit tune and photo by - Jan. 11th, 2012
**Testers must submit times and drivers choice by - Jan. 21st, 2012
all times are subject to change at the discretion of the event sponsor

Good morning , i just have 2 suggestions:

1°) In the way of 75 kg limit for the ballast , better use % , for example75 kg on a Lotus Elise will not have the same effect than on a Dodge pick up.

1°) For the driver choice , even if tuners involved or non tuner are testing the cars, it's better they send their choice to you by PM till a deadline and you publish all the driver choice at the same time. Like this, no way to know how your opponent classify your car and like this the results will be more objective and fair.

For the rest i love the PP range / tires / track......cars. I just hope i can run this event, i'll move myself at this date to another plant and another house. It will depend of the dates i'll do this and also of internet connection.

I'll do my best. Have a good day.

% of weight is something I'll look into, very good 👍

And PM'd drivers choice is a good Idea as well. Thank you.

I do hope you can be a part of the shootout, but I do hope your move goes well too. 👍

@krenkme looks good so far.

I agree with praiano about using a % of weight for ballast as you have a very wide range of base weights available to start with.

You might also think about adding some specific instructions for the test drivers such as the following:
* only ABS1 and driving line allowed
* grip must be real
* tire wear/fuel consumption on
* mechanical damage off

Thank you for pointing that out 👍. This is why I needed the feed back, so everything will run smoothly. Thanks! :D

The Nordschleife is the only Nurburgring there is. :P

The only one that counts anyway.:D
The only issue with using the Nordschleife for a shootout is the length of the laps and the time. Especially if you catch a red flag somewhere on the lap and have to redo the entire lap.

Note: Nordschleife is one of my favorite tracks in the game, its just not the best for competitive hot lapping of multiple cars.

I'm not sure on test driver procedure yet.

I'm thinking of a warm up lap in each car, followed by 2 hot laps per car, total time combined.(for 2 hot laps) Consistency will be key for a tune certainly.

Maybe a final round of 3 laps, almost like a race. Tuners will be allowed to make tweaks before the final round based on feedback.

I can't stop other test drivers from doing it, but a gentleman's agreement on only running the allotted amount of laps per car.

Just thoughts at the moment.

Hi FITTers,

Can I please be added to the opening post?
nomis3613 // nomis3613 // Test Driver

Maybe sometime soon I'll also have "Event Host" in the above line...speaking of which I'm thinking of helping organise the "Backwards vs Non-Backwards" idea that Johnnypenso proposed.

Can you please have a look at my first stab at the rules below and let me know what you think?
(xDes, is it ok if I steal some of your text, no worries if it isn't, let me know and I'll come up with my own words :) )

Tuners
1) Need to submit a tune for the two cars. The same tune is to be used at both tracks. The tracks are *TBA* and *TBA*.
2) Their tuned cars will need to be placed on sharing by midnight (GMT) on XX/YY/2012. Please ensure that your cars are fully broken in and have a fresh oil change prior to placing them on share.
3) Tuners will need to choose which category they are in: backwards or non-backwards. “Backwards” tuners must use at least 20mm of rake (ie front and rear ride heights must be different by at least 20mm). “Non-backwards” tuners must use no rake (ie same ride height front and rear).
4) Tuners wishing to enter must post in this thread AND send me (nomis3613) a PM to verify their intent to submit a tune. This is necessary to ensure no-one gets missed if this comp goes viral and turns into a multi-page epic thread!

Cars
To cover different grip and performance ranges there are two cars to be tuned, a “sports hard” car and a “racing medium” car.
1) The “sports soft” car is *TBA*. The following is the parts to be installed on this car: *TBA*
2) The “racing medium” car is *TBA*. The following is the parts to be installed on this car: *TBA*
3) The following settings are to be used while testing: ABS1, Driving line (optional), all other aids off. Mechanical damage off, tire wear/fuel consumption *TBA*, grip reduction real.

Testers
1) To ensure fairness to the tuners, testers will need to test every car (if there are more than 6 entries, we will split the comp into groups).
2) Tuners are not allowed to enter as testers (unless they test a group they are not competing in). The reason for this is that (aside from any favoritism) a tuner will be more familiar with their setup, so they will be better at getting the best laps from it compared with the other tunes.
3) Testers are welcome to use wheels or controllers. However, please use the same input for testing all cars, and state which you have used (it will be interesting to see if there is a split in the results based on wheel vs controller)
4) Automatic transmission is fine, but please put this in your post if you are using it.
5) Please make sure you have used the driving options in #3 for the cars section when testing every car
6) Testers wishing to enter must post in this thread AND send me (nomis3613) a PM to verify their intent to submit a tune. This is necessary to ensure no-one gets missed if this comp goes viral and turns into a multi-page epic thread!

Scoring / Prizes
1) There are 2 categories to this event: speed and driver enjoyment. Please understand that driver enjoyment varies a lot between testers, so don’t be upset if you score lower than you expected. People are different.
2) Speed Category: lap times at each track for each tester will be given 6 points (fastest) to 1 point (slowest). The points from all testers at both tracks will be added to determine the winner.
3) Driver enjoyment category: testers will submit from 6 points (most liked) to 1 point (least liked) at each track. The points from all testers at both tracks will be added to determine the winner.
4) Prizes *TBA*

Fine Print / Fairness Rules
1) Test drivers are expected to be conscientious in ensuring equal testing parameters for all vehicles. A test driver may be asked by the organisers to repeat test drives for any car in the contest. The test driver may be asked by the organisers to produce proof of unusual lap times.
2) Testers may criticise tunes, but it must be objective and personal attacks are not allowed. Since the testers are making an effort to be objective, tuners must not forcefully argue with testers judgements (calm discussion is fine, though)
3) Driver feedback, both positive and negative, is strongly encouraged but in a constructive manner. Not all tunes work well for every driver. Personal attacks will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification and sanction by GTPlanet.

Uh oh, CSL changed his avatar...what will happen to poor Praiano?!

On topic, whatever happened to zero? I haven't seen him around in a while and his shootout has been up on the board forever. :odd:

Also, put me down for another in the April/May timeframe. :D Same basic format as my previous but reworked, different venue, blah blah blah. 👍

Hey guys at FITT, I was wondering if I could host an tuner shoot out. It would be a japanese car shoot out to celebrate japanese cars being fun again (LFA, gt 86, maybe even a new mr-s in the works and nsx). I have not worked out the fine details yet but it would be open to any japanese car whose stock PP is under certain amount and none of the cars could go above a certain PP (will come up with those numbers later). The cars would be tested on Suzuka (full circuit) and Tsukuba. This will be a time based event

I will get more details up when I figure out the numbers and all that other good stuff, there will be prizes for the top 3 tuners.

Sorry for the delayed response here. I can add you onto the list of upcoming events as soon as you are ready for me to.

Currently Dragonthing is scheduled up next but she has been experiencing system problems so I'm not sure if she'll be ready to go.

CSLACR had other commitments that required his event be pushed back and I'm not sure whether he is clear of those yet.

As you can see we definitely will be needing more sponsors that can get an event together on short notice as outside issues can effect our plans here.:odd:

@DigitalBaka give me the word and I'll add you to the list as well might be asking you if you can move it up a bit unless people can get things sorted out.👍👍
Also 550PP convertables on say Cape Ring outside sounds fun!:sly:

Sounds like fun, good combination of tracks but I'd give some real thought to how you lay it out and what cars you include. The LFA and NSX Type R you mentioned in particular, are heads above almost everything else at their PP level and you risk having those two cars completely dominate the top of the field. You could elminate them completely or have them in a separate division.

I had an Idea of running a 400pp racing soft "quick" shootout at Autumn Ring Mini.

One week sign-up and tune. One week test and time. Done. If were looking for something short. :dopey:

If filling in gaps in the schedule is a concern, it would pay to come up with a bunch of quickie shootouts like the one Krenkme mentioned above, ready to go at any time. Not every shootout has to be a big production to be successful and the shorter ones can be fun and might even attract some new tuners with a little less serious feel to them.

Quickie shootouts sound fine as long as they remain organized and adhere strictly to their deadlines.

Also there is nothing that says we have to have continuously running events falling one right after the other.

Occasional breaks help prevent burnout and allow people time to spend on some other activities such as the ongoing challenges that have gone into hibernation and our informal tuner battles over in the Tuner Wars thread.:D

What about dividing them by dealership price? 0-50k division, 50-100k division and 100k+ division for the LFA and NSX.

The downside is, if you stick to 1 car per tuner, the divisions wont be that big, maybe 5-8 cars each at the most. On the plus side though, with such small groups per division, testers could just test a single division, which wouldn't take long, which would encourage more testers to sign up.

Also with krenkme's idea, why not aim it at seasonals? Take the Online A-spec Challenge. You have 400PP, 500PP and 650PP there. That's 3 potential "filler" events.

I like the seasonal idea and there is always something there we can work with. If we need a filler just pick an event. 👍
