I can't get them loose enough with the tires we're given. I'm trying, but it's not happening.

Friend said, tell em how the real car is set up. I said okay.

I run 1.5" wider tires on the front, and they're harder than the rear. Imagine 9.5" wide RM on front, and 8" wide RS on back. Cause they are just like that. 500 lb front spring with no sway bar, 450 lb rear spring with a 22mm bar. Car weighs 1695 pounds full wet. Idea for the skinny softer rears is to get some heat for ultimate grip. But it's mostly loose outta control until things settle in.

Cheers guys. 👍

Do you do SCCA events or another organization for autocross? I will be at Mid-Ohio a few times this summer at SCCA Regional races.

My first race car was a 1986 Honda Civic. I had 27mm OPM torsion bars up front, which equated to 350 lbs springs, if I remember correctly. Then we'd run anywhere between 400 lb and 600 lb on the rear with 19mm rear bar. If you wanted to run anything bigger for springs in the back you'd have to switch from Tokico shocks to something much more expensive, like Penske shocks. Rear toe out was the trick to get that thing to rotate.

I may just have to tune the '80s Civic in this competition just for kicks.

This is sort of off topic for this thread but the mention of Autocross took me back 29 years to my first Motorsport event.
The Autocross I did was on a dirt circuit of around 2km in length, 1 car against the clock in a Datsun 1600 (Nissan Bluebird/P510).
I was friends with a guy from a rallying family. He had older brothers who rallied & would pass on to him their well worn secondhand parts. He would fix them up as best he could within his budget, which wasn't much & put them on his car.
I couldn't tell you what the spring rates, shockers or stabilizers were but what I do remember is just how interchangeable parts were from other Datsuns.
The 1600 had an L18 head to bump the compression ratio, twin 40mm DCOE Weber carburettors, the front struts & 5 speed gearbox from a '73 Skyline and a welded diff centre for added traction. I also remember it was a stinking hot day that gave us temperature problems & required regular top ups of the radiator. I don't recall where we were place overall at the end of the day but I managed to beat him with consistency after he had the mutha of all spins nearly wiping out a temporary tyre wall.

Please don't don't my words as complaints, I'm just trying to understand. But really, I don't get the point. Are we not looking for the best pair?

👍

It's not so much about finding the best cars as making the best tunes. But in order for the competition to work in with timed laps, the cars need to be fairly close. Otherwise with most tuners being the competitive type, you'd end up with a field mostly of the same car.

The FITT comps, while being serious about the tunes, are also about a bit of fun and variety. You'll see in most events, though, that this kind of fiddling isn't necessary.

If you're testing, I expect you'll be glad not to drive 30 Focuses, a Step van and a Fiat 500 around Monaco for 2 days .

Tuners can post early tunes to the thread. Once they are ready for test drivers to start with their tune, tuners should add a line to the tune post saying "Complete - ok to test." Once that phrase is posted under your tune, no changes will be allowed. I will take a screen grab of each tune once that line of copy is posted to it.

@Motor City Hami - Was we supposed to put something on our tune sheets when they have been finalised and are ready for use by testers should they decide to jump in early?
Here you go. ;) I added it to my post here instead though.

Right 3:51 target time.
Fair warning to the testers I'm not going to do nice and friendly this time, I'm going for broke full out TT and hope for the best.

I had the same thought, but I decided to go the other way. I posted a tune yesterday in my garage, but after doing some "soul searching", I decided to be nice to the testers. Maybe not as fast/aggressive, but I can live with it, more importantly, so can the testers...

1:56.890
Still bounces off the redline in 2nd more than I'd want, but hey, options are limited for automatic transmissions.

Red lap, but good balance there. (4 wheels on curb on chicane). Definitely will lap more .56's

450pp CRZ done, last test done online :

410pp CRX on validating phase, checking if it's easy enough and kinda quick.
On my hands totals average 3:51.7, lucky me at I'm not fast driver.

Looks good, OdeFinn. I got a good feeling about those Hondas. :mischievous:

I have to start all over. I just got a steering wheel! Wow what a difference.
Wheel makes this game worth of it.
In order of appearance on settings for ffb sens etc powers: 6/6/10 feels good, but is not too ruff,
I'm using also "power assisted steering" and "simulation" from options menu. Some say that simulation has no effect, but doesn't hurt to put on.

I got it on simulation and 0/10/10. My arms are tired after one day. Most of which was spent in the Toyota TS030. Love that car. Race car has no power steering and those huge tires, so that's how I'm doing it. So far, I'm faster with the sticks, but getting very close to my times already.

Here's my new set up. Passenger seat from the Honda.

You can fix the transmission of you try ;)

Its a front wheel drive, what's the worst it can do?
Wait and see. :mischievous:

Nice set up. If your handy with a saw you could make a pedal stand to angle them to help your feet your feet out.
