its a problem across most online games (and I must confess to having more issues than normal with Spanish players). GT5 makes things worse by giving too much control to players.

Interestingly I've have fewer problems on other racing games (Grid and F1-2010) where I can display a Welsh flag rather than the Union Jack. Maybe people take pity lol

TAKE PITY! Wales doesn't need their pity:sly:

I wish we could display it in GT5. A lot of people take a stereotypical view of Wales as a Sing songy place where everyone lives in the valleys, which isn't the worst stereotype in the world.
Once I had a New Zealander jokingly call me a 'Sheep 🤬' which is quite funny considering the amount of sheep in New Zealand

Iv had much worse from the occasional (usually union flagged) gamer, i joined one room and they just pounced lol
one of them offered me a slap which i found amusing as
a) i didnt know you could slap someone over the internet
b) if there was a 'slap' application he would have had a shock (ex semi pro kickboxer)

why cant people just be nice dammit!

That's strange I love playing with people from other countries. Unless I do something stupid and make my country look bad. It's kind of weird but what one does online can really change another's opinion of a country.

But back to my first sentence. I think it's fun to meet people of other nationalities. My best online friend is from England and I get to learn about England while he can learn about America. It's about respect.

No offense, but most British people I meet online are total arrogant jerks, but that doesn't mean all British people are that way.

Once i joined a drift room, and they kicked me just because i drive pink cars! I mean What the ****! For those of you who kick for no reason, have some respect and just let people play a game that they payed good money!

I never get kicked guess everyone likes the irish :sly:

You could have a point mate, I've never been kicked either :sly:

I prefer to race in private lounges now though, it's much less random. I've raced with British, American, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, Germans, Norwegians, Italians, Colombians & other Irish & never had a problem (luck of the Irish maybe). A lot of us use mics & although there's the occasional bad language none of it is abusive or racist. I've laughed till it hurts at the banter that goes on & the mics are very handy for warning others where you are on track so collisions are avoided.

Personally I like to see my National Flag beside my name, specially when I win, it's not too often ya see the auld tricolour at the top of a podium.

Amazes me this isn't locked. Some of the people here are as bad as those who kick for nationality. My god, I am Canadian and I have family in Ireland, England, Sweden, Australia and the US. I respect everybody until they as an individual give me reason not to. Or should I be lumped into all the Canadian stereotypes?

Stereotyping nationalities is how most of this crap starts in the first place and things like, I find Canadians mostly don't like Americans and why do Spanish players always kick me are disgusting comments. Your as bad as the players that are kicking you and a lot of you need to grow up.

👍 Totally agreed.

OP, you can add me up and join anytime. The only time I have kicked anybody was when a jackhole was running the track backwards.

Would that help? Not in some cases
Where is Helmut Schultz from i wonder?
Where is Luigi Balotelli from? or Xi Dejiang?
Just saying flags wont stop people knowing where your from.

All of them could be my neighbors. Living near Los Angeles means your neighbor/co-worker could be from anywhere.

EDIT: also why I don't like rooms that allow mics. Just cuz you spent money on one doesn't mean it's cool or that ANYONE wants to hear your prepubescent voice yelling to your dog about how much you hate people from other countries. Making no mics means more racy less racist talky...

/raving rant about nothing :)

Actually I like being able to use a mic, I can apologize for my bonehead moves quicker.

For all the Brits out there, the only reason I would ever kick one of you is because you are all too damn good and win too much. Could you let someone else win a race just once? No, I wouldn't actually kick you, but I am serious about letting me win.

👍 brilliant made me laugh cheers.

I have never been kicked from a lobby because of where I come from. Even when I joined rooms where everyone else was of one nationality. So I guess you guys are just unlucky. They should make it optional, so you can choose if you want the flag or not.

Me neither. I've been kicked from some stupid NASCAR rooms for not having a mic, but that was my own fault. My friend from work was racing at Daytona, and I just wanted to watch. The NASCAR buddies seem to hate this though, mic rooms or not.

Ever since PSN is back up, I've had pretty good luck finding stable rooms with decent hosts, either for fun or for serious racing, and if I can't find a room, I start my own. Sometimes people join, sometimes they don't. Other than the NASCAR good old boys, I've yet to get booted otherwise.

I am realy starting to get fed up with being kicked from a gt5 lobby for simply having a British flag next to my gamer tag, some are actually quite offensive before they kick even just upon joining the lobby, I realise some people want to stick with others from same country for lagg issues but a lot of it is just hating, I think pd need to remove the flags to stop this happening, gt5 is the only game I've played that seems to have this problem.

I hear you on this. Let me just say that anytime you want to race I'm up for it. Add me to your friends list and let's have some fun!💡

I can't remember ever getting stick for being Welsh lol :)

And it is pretty obvious I am xD

I usually get other Welsh people asking where I'm from but that's it really :)

I kick most foreigners because they lag, simple. Join a room in with your own country and you wouldn't have that problem.

I'd bet that they don't hate the flag of whoever's country, they just don't want a laggy race. I've been kicked numerous times from open lobbies and a few times I was told it was because they were foreign hosts. If they told me to leave I would have but it's rude to kick people without warning unless the person being booted is driving like an idiot.

Yesterday I was playing F1 2010 online in a 7 race Grand Prix. The room was all americans pretty much except for me. My driver that I created is Scottish and so the flag of Scotland is next to my name. How dumb is this: I was kicked from an american only room despite me clearly sounding like an american, all because of my created drivers country of origin LOL.

Hmm okay, but cant you change your country so you get another flagg?

Lag can happen in any lobby, this issue goes beyond lag, its pure out and out hate of another country and having a British flag next to my name gets me booted out of a room before I've even got on the track, Spain and France seem the worse one for that!

This is another frustrating flaw of GT5. You should be able to open a lobby and select who can attend it. That would prevent those non-polite-kicks that could be sometimes from people that would like to race just with friends.

if you are being kicked from a server before even saying a word or racing then honestly it's probably a blessing. host must be an idiot and do you really want to race with idiots?

ps i have been kicked by spanish players but have also had really good races with spanish players, so no reason to single out all spanish players. i am sure there are equal amounts of idiots from other countries, it has nothing to do with nationality.

There should be an option to allow or disable your flag, or at least be able to change it.
