You can fly anywhere in the world. You can even zoom outside the earth and with the right craft you could leave the earth (addon only).

hey everyone,

last night i was flying around for like 4 hours, visiting Las Vegas and the pyramids of Gize, but my graphics are on highest settings but aren't anywhere near yours. I don't have the Deluxe edition though, so is it necessary to get the Expansion pack in order to get more and better scenery?

Thanks

Chris

PS: Can anyone let me know the site i can download add ons, mods, planes (freeware) for FSX)

I haven't posted any pics lately so I will share some random ones now, keep in mind this is default scenery.

(Larger pics available in links below)

Here is a few from my approach into Athens

If you take a close look at the first two you can see were the Slats and Flaps have moved in comparison, third pic you can see the approach is busy (better seen in the larger pic) and the forth pic you can see how the wings flex up a little in the air, plus flaps 35 is down.

Same flight (rome to lisbon), now light enough to see clearly during approach, the 'STAR' (Standard Terminal Arrival Route) for this runway assigned by traffic control takes me staight over out to sea and a river a little before I can turn onto final. last of these four pics is a aerial shot of the airport, you can see tons of modeled buildings of the city.

And this last pic just as a Reference shot of the MD11, that Wizz aircraft is a common Airbus A320 (common aircraft many people know) it is easier to see how large the McDonnell Douglas MD11 really is.

I have the deluxe version but I think the main difference is city modelling, the scenery and general graphics should be the same, I use all default scenery as it is fine for me.

When ever I want free addons (like my AI aircraft) I go to
http://www.avsim.com/

they have a huge library of freeware addons among other things.

thanks Viper,

since i got a lungh infection since a week now and i cant get out of the house, ive been on FSX almost the whole day with my mom advising me (since shes a pilot for cessna 175)

Flew from Dubai to St Martin, great Flight.

Then later using the Bell and Robinson alot!

Do you go online much? I don't have a gamespy account, are there lots of users online with FSX?

Ill get some screens up later

Chris

I used to go online a couple times and just fool around in chopper with friends but that was when FSX first came out, look forward to your pics 👍

I did a flight to and from Dubai not too long ago, was a busy airport! (first pic the planes are lined up even in the long distance)
Also raining on the way in and low visability on the way out. (last pic you can see the rain in the large version)

Wow - reading this thread has really got me interested in Flight sims.
I absolutly love 8400RPM's two prop shot (is magascenery an add on or something?)

Anyways, it looks like you can get pretty much any type of aircraft off various sites - has anyone got or seen a Blohm and Voss BV 222 or 238?
If I get a flight sim (start of next year for my new powerful laptop) I'd love to take one of those around the cost of Australia or the meditaranian - even though it's a warbird.

Yes, flightsim.com has BV-138 and 238 models in their file download section. They are a bit old though, both are FS2002/2004 models. But, with a little tweaking, they should work in FSX.

Viper,

for example, i dont have all that scenery in my game. anyhow, one quick question, how do you manage to park your plane at the terminal, with the walkway connected to it?
plus how do you add that many AI airplanes?

Where can i adjust the setting for AI air traffic?

and btw, is that like your favorite aircraft?

Chris

Me in my Bombardier over Nepal

Bombardier next to either the Eureka Tower or the Rialto Tower in Melbourne
I've been up to the top of both, their veeeery high abd you can see pretty much all of Melbourne from them 👍

In the Bombardier over the Melbourne Cricket Ground :sly:

In the Beechcraft (I think) after flying under Sydney Harbour Bridge and now over the Sydney Opera House

Nice shots mate :D
Love the one of the MCG looks awesome. Too bad it isn't full and a game of cricket/football is going on.

Damn... that is some really cool stuff. I need to get me a flight sim... cars are overrated... (no they're not, who am I kidding?)

cheers
yea, they should defonately have some cricket on!

Oh, and mPWRD, you need to find the right balance of car sim:flight sim :D
rFactor one day, Flight sim the next 💡

Viper,

for example, i dont have all that scenery in my game.

You do have FSX not FS2004 right?

how do you manage to park your plane at the terminal, with the walkway connected to it?

ATC Assigns the gate when I land and I just pull up (or you can choose any gate when you start), I have a mod that has a crew who does the doors and the jetway (walkway) after I tell them to disarm slides, but there is a shortcut to do it anytime but I forget. This is only available in FSX.

plus how do you add that many AI airplanes?

Where can i adjust the setting for AI air traffic?

In settings, you can increase AI aircraft, cars (on the roads surrounding the airport), vehicles in the airport (fuel trucks etc) even boats and ships in the sea.

The airlines and aircraft themselves come from here
http://www.world-of-ai.com/

Which is free real world AI packages, they actually fly the real routes, FSX default AI is all generic.

and btw, is that like your favorite aircraft?

It's the PMDG MD11 which is one of if not the most closely simulated planes on the market so far, expensive to buy and comes with a 1500+ manual which all but a very few systems on the aircraft are fully simulated and the minor ones that arn't is because of limitations of the MS flight sim. I like the big complex iron (aircrafts) so I am flying this bird around the world at the moment.

I used to fly the PMDG 737NG and 747-400 (also payware addons) in FS2004 a lot but for now it is a nice change from the Boeings.

Damn... that is some really cool stuff. I need to get me a flight sim... cars are overrated... (no they're not, who am I kidding?)

Planes are great to take a break from cars for a while, nothing replaces cars though. ;)

thanks for those answers viper.

First, yes i have FSX, thats for sure.

Second, i have all the settings on high, my laptop is very strong so it can handle it well.

I'm going to download now couple of AI Crafts to increase that traffic. I remember in FS04 i used to get myself into a Cessna or a Helicopter and check on the airport and watch other aircrafts land. But in FSX barely any planes come in or take off.

Chris

Yeah these days sometimes at busy hubs and busy airspace I get too much traffic! I sometimes go to different airports to check out the different planes and airlines.

I stopped in amsterdam today and it was pretty packed

Even the air was crowded on the way, was a little on edge having ATC and my TCAS bugging me all the time about traffic conflictions

Each of these blue diamonds is another aircraft nearby at cruise altitude.

(Sorry about the quality, Jpeg compression is killing the colours)

I currently have all the AI packages installed which is around 480 different airlines.

There something that's baffling me. Viper, your shots are great, with high detail - and have (along with short snippets of commentary) probably made me want a flight sim the most.
But why is it that the plane on 8400RPM's shot has really high detail reflections and shadows?
Also Viper, could you please give us the link to the site where you bought the star of your holiday flicks? (I mean the plane heheh)

so i just started a flight from dubai to vienna, and about 800nm away from my destination i had low oil pressure on both engines, i immediately had to reduce the simulation rate back to normal, and luckily i wasnt too far out on the sea so i could glid back to land and land in the dirt in the middle of nowhere on an empty strech of land somewhere in bosnia i think :S

this was before the incident happened

you guys dont understand how much fun FSX actually is.

This summer i'm going to make my flying license

But why is it that the plane on 8400RPM's shot has really high detail reflections and shadows?

I turned a lot of the excess candy down (fancy reflections etc) so I can crank up the AI, use my big load of extra mods and high fidelity aircraft with a solid smooth30fps+ in all conditions (weather, traffic etc). Plus I had a conflict with DX10 and the world of AI planes so the candy DX10 offered had to go, I prefer the AI as you can see in the previous pics.

When I just want to sight see in smaller or default planes I will crank it to max settings again.

some pics I posted in this thread with all eye candy cranked (default planes)

Also Viper, could you please give us the link to the site where you bought the star of your holiday flicks? (I mean the plane heheh)

Sure

http://www.precisionmanuals.com/

Not cheap by any means but if you want to closest simulation (of High tech jet liners) you can get your hands on with extremely good support this is where you want to go. Comes with PDF manuals (option to buy hardbacks) which are 1500+ pages long, also comes with tutorials to get you up to speed fast.

They also have in Development a Bae Jetstream 41 turboprop for those who like to do short/scenic hops. I will buy it for sight seeing (monument seeing), and as it's not so complex it will be cheaper

thanks for that world of AI link Viper
its awesome 👍

No worries, It is fantastic and it is free.

I just flew from Edinburgh > Newcastle > Schippol, Amsterdam in a Boeing 747
I might make this into a tour round Europe
Next stop, Billund Airport in Denmark next to LegoLand :D

I landed in Schippol Amsterdam just today from Lisbon, my next stop is Helsinki Finland :)

Schippol is rediculously large to get around
It takes about 30 mins to get to the runway

FYI my shot on the previous page was in DX9, settings up pretty high but not maxed out yet. The Megascenery helps a lot, especially at high enough altitude. But my shot is nothing compared to some of gslooney's shots on page 7, some of that is photoreal.

Lately I've been getting into the military jets, been flying the Alphasim F-105 around a bit.

Good stuff Viper!

and when i finally got to the runway at Schippol... i had to wait 10 minutes for 3 Mcdonnell douglases and a Cessna to come in to land

Played FSX for about 3 hours on a friends' computer... that is addicting! Makes me want to get it... pity I'm saving up for TDU...

For anyone who isn't into big jetliners here is a new turboprop aircraft being developed and to be released next month by PMDG, like always everything in the aircraft is simulated.

None of these photos has been edited (besides resizing) as said everything you see is simulated and apparently is frame rate friendly.

Check out the window refections and the heating elements on the captains windscreen. Also note that the mechanical instruments have been modelled in 3D, all the needles are and dials are modeled seperate.

and as always it will come with a manual and tutorial so you don't have to worry about trying to figure out how it works.

*EDIT* Oh and I just remembered, icing will be visual on this plane, if ice starts to develop you will be able to see it
