Spa is a bit of a slipstream fest as Wii's already said.
First stint, 1st to 6th were all together, Adam only breaking away about 6 laps in after the rest of us were spending too much time jostling for position. Doing that, we were doing 2:40s when I knew we'd be doing 2:38s in free air, so I pitted early (Lap 8) to get a few free laps on the rest of the group, and it worked out pretty well.
Second stint I ended up being maybe 4 or 5 seconds up the road from the same pack, and I hoped they'd continue battling to let me stay with that gap, or extend it further. To begin with, the gap was probably increasing, but with about 5-6 laps to go, they'd caught up after working well together with the tow.
From there, some pretty good battling, sensible stuff and intelligent driving on the whole. I knew it'd come down to the last lap though and who could get the best run out of Eau Rouge, or towards the Bus Stop if not. Deliberately took a wider entry into Turn 1 to get a bit of a gap on the others, so they'd have to jostle for position through Eau Rogue whilst I was continually building speed. Managed to use so much slipstream that I was virtually on the limiter at approaching 160mph down the straight (I think we're normally doing 130ish without tow?!), sailing past the entire group no problem at all. Under braking I got a pretty big tap from Wiifreak (no probs at all) which meant I had no hope of making the corner though. Lifted and coasted through the chicane to try and negate any time I might have gained. Was also the safest option with 4 cars right on my rear bumper. Also lifted and rolled across the finish line out of the Bus Stop for the last 2 seconds of the lap to doubly make sure. There was a bit of a mess behind me on the last lap anyway so I think it didn't matter anyway.
Madrid is a circuit I don't really like at all, and I'm probably not available next weekend anyway, so it might come in handy as a dropped round, we'll see!
Oh and congrats Adam, well driven in traffic and out of it 👍
