Great race in d2 guys. Turn 1 lag saw me into the grass on the outside, dropped back to last. Then was behind schaden (I think) and he got a bit sideways coming out of the hairpin. Totally thought he was going around, so I tried to jump outside to avoid him and we....there was a wall there. Put me in dead last and 20 seconds back :P

Worked my way back to 7th by about lap 10 and people started pitting. I stayed out until lap 13/14 which turned out to be a decent strategy. Came out from the pits around the same spot, ket crashed I think and so he and I had some quality time together for 5 or so laps. We were tracking down eggie slowly but surely, but I made a drafting error before the last turn and went into the grass which threw off my pace a bit. Ended up passing Ket at the begging of lap 21 and ended up within shouting distance of Egg.

All in all a great race :) In retrospect I probably should have remembered that Ket didn't have nearly as much tire as I did and should have been the one pulling towards Egg instead of trying to push. But, hey, I've never had the problem of being "too cautious" in a race before. Maybe my break increased my maturity ;) :P :dopey: :dunce:

I was wondering how you got into me when I lost it... That incident (mostly my own fault but lag played a part) and some weirdness with my pit stop (I've heard there might be a pit penalty system at play) cost me a couple of spots. I was slower than I wanted to be in qualifying, but once I settled into a bit of a groove I felt more competitive, so all in all I'm pretty happy with my race.

And sorry for not being at the Div 1 race guys, was busy, sorry. :(

I didn't really realize what was happening at the race. I assumed that you had already cleared it with Turbo, when you showed up at the D3 race. After reading through the thread more, I realize that you asked just the other day, What track we are running this week.

Then you asked a couple hours before the D1 race, when the race was. You got a reply, but never responded. There are reserves that really wanted to be a part of this series. It would have been nice if you had posted on the forum in advance that you weren't going to make the race, so that someone could have filled in.

Then you didn't finish the D3 race.

I understand things come up, but for the series it is nice to be able to have full grids. If you could put some effort into this for the enjoyment of all it would be appreciated.

Division 2 and 3 results have been posted. I'll update the points standings when I get the D1 results from Aderrrm.

Looks good Jason! Thanks for running a great series as always. 👍

Anyone else notice that SpyHunter and Minion ran identical fast laps during their race?

Took me a second to realize.. You meant identical.

Yeah, that always seems strange to me, how often times end up identically. Makes me think the timing system in GT5 is biased to certain times. I think CSL and Masi just ran identical times in the GTRA rally series... on a 5 minute lap. 9 people ran that lap and the gap covered 45 seconds.. yet the two of them both recorded 4'44.153.

I just had my first 15 or so focused laps at Twin Cities.
Probably my favorite user made track to date.:)

It's not overly long or overly high speed, lots of trail braking to be done.

Yeah that track's a bit nuts when it comes to concentration, you really need to stay on it to have a quick lap. What sort of time did you hit?

Offline 1:37-1:38ish. Nothing close to solid, just wanted to watch ghosty and use driving line a bit.:P

Well my Grand Valley experience sucked. I wasted most of qualifying trying to let people by so I could find an opening to run a clean lap. Ran what I thought would be a decent qualifying lap but ended up starting last. Made some good clean passes through the first couple of corners but then hooked the curb or something on one corner and spun then it was all over for me after that. I spent the rest of the race overdriving the car to try and catch up (which led to more spins). Then when I tried to have some fun and draft with the leaders after I was lapped, I miss judged how much speed I had going into the last hairpin and spun again. I do want to throw out a big thanks to Spyhunter for helping me figure out how to get around that place. I was running in the 10s before he worked with me and was able to get down in the 6s during the qualifying and the race, when I could run a clean lap. Oh well, on to the next one!

I did not have a very good race at all. For the first half of the race, I was like 4-5 seconds off my practice/qualifying pace. There was a group up ahead of me that I wanted to catch up to, but I just couldn't make up enough ground and it was time to pit. I guess I entered too fast or something because my car reset to the pit entrance, then after they were done changing my tires I just sat there for a little while. After my pit stop, I felt like I was running a lot better. I thought I was going to be able to move up a couple spots, but I got too aggressive on the final hairpin and spun out with about 5 laps to go. Hopefully next week goes better.

I learned about the pit penalty the hard way, as well. Started in 3rd. Nepal took off at the start, but I thought maybe he lifted of the brake a tad soon, and got a start penalty, as I quickly started to reel him in. T1 was looking to be interesting, as I had Minion (IIRC) locked to my drivers door. I lifted, let him by, and was on the gas early. This proved to my benefit, as I made it to T3 in first. Made a little headway, but not enough to overcome the DRS, and both Nepal and Minion reeled me in on the straights.

I was hoping we would all work together to break away from the pack, but on the front straight it was every man for themselves. Minion and Nepal got by, with a think Nepal ending up in the lead. IIRC, Minion and I had some small contact later in the lap, and that was all Nepal needed to break draft. At that point, I just did what I could to break away myself, hoping to hunt Nepal down. Was locked in 2nd, when everyone went to pit.

I stayed out, trying to get one more lap in (I was able to run fairly consistent times even on the worn tires) and have fresher tires at the end of the race. I came into the pits, my guys changed my tires, and then I just sat there. I watched Nepal go by. Then 2nd place. Then 3rd. Then 4th. I was screaming at the screen, "Let me gooooo!!!" I didn't know about the penalty, and thought I had encountered a bug. So, out I came in 5th. I knew I had an uphill battle. I calmed down, and went to work. I was able to reel in 3rd and 4th places, for the final podium spot.

It was hard to turn consistent laps. I was experiencing some pretty bad screen tear while chasing Nepal. Made being smooth and hitting the braking points difficult. And then when coming up on Green, he was dancing all over the place. I was very thankful I was able to pass him without incident.

Also, Cowboy, when someone is coming up behind you on a qualifying lap, please move over. I had to make a concentrated effort to pass you, and had a great start to my lap. Not trying to pile on, but just mentioning that I, also, had this issue.

I didn't have any lag during the race was surprised at how many others did. Yeah spyhunter you caught me pretty fast, I knew I didn't have the pace to hold you off. So decided it would be best to give you room to avoid slowing us both down, try and use your draft so that the group behind didn't catch me. Although your where off as soon as you got by me and you did well to get 3rd, was an epic come back by you.

I also had a lot of screen tearing at the beginning when fighting with you and Minion for the lead. Its probably the GT5 servers, they just dont work well with certain cars together.

I wasn't able to race at GVS-R, but in the few people talking about the qualifying problems. Maybe expand the qualifying time a bit, or set some kind of rule/standard about not everyone jetting off as soon as we enter the track.

Maybe 15 second intervals for each competitor to start. It would be hard to do w/o someone officiating and without microphones it would be even harder.

Or we get 3 laps to qualify and that's it. I know there was a vote before the season, and maybe most people are ok with the current system. I voted for the 15 minutes before the race.

Just a thought. I don't mind the way it is, but I'm slower than most. But qualifying should be a clean lap w/o any traffic to deal with.

This, this, this and THIS!

I tried to pass him in that double-hairpin when I was on a flyer, and he actually cut me off and made me brake more than I had too. Not moving over is just plain disrespectful...

We can expand it to 20 minutes, then half the room can run for 10 minutes, then park their cars on pit road so the other half of the room can get their times in. That really the only way I see how to fix the issue. Just make a rule about how many cars are allowed on track at one time.

Yeah, that's how they do it in the Cappuccinos. I'd be all for that.

I'd be all for this idea But, I think group 2 has an advantage, they can watch, and see the lap times. I don't have a better idea though.

For this race, when the Q session started I was waiting for a go signal but when I saw 3-4 cars jump in I got impatient and joined them.

Is it mandatory to wait for the GO (GREEN) after the track reset?

And how do we get the reserve drivers in before the start?

Yeah, I really wish people hadn't done that... I was in the menus looking for the "auto-start" timer. By the time I got it set people were already out on track for a minute; Rather than delay things and have to set the timer again I just said "whatever... they got like 1/2 a lap in extra".
In the future though I'd hope people would be patient enough to wait for the room host to say Go.

I honestly don't see how that's a problem.

The Green light for qualifying for me is right after I reset the track. One it loads, you're good to go.

And how do we get the reserve drivers in before the start?

They should be in the room before qualifying anyway. This brings up a good point, and I'll make a note about it in the OP.

Edit: @ Dr_Watson: I just keep an eye on the total time in the upper corner and start the race when it reaches 15 minutes.

Also dont see how this is a problem. If I cant watch people in qualifying, I'm going to watch them in practice.

In fact I'm more likely to watch people in practice as it gives me more time to make use of what I learn.

Okay. Have about 25 pics but I'm too lazy to upload them one by one. Here are the best ones:

I don't see the need tbh.
I've had nothing but clear track so far, because I wait if I'm close to someone when going to start a lap.
If everybody dives out there and races within half a second of each other, of course they're going to have hold ups.

Even with 7-8 cars on track, or 15, we need to first give ourselves room, and also, if somebody gets within a second or so (catches up from a distance behind) let them by.
I didn't start quali at GVS for about 5 minutes. Track was perfectly clear, TnJF a little close behind me, but IIRC, neither of us got in each others way. 👍

Just saying, why make it harder then it has to be?

This. Everyone also seemed to shoot off at the beginning, must of been a pack of about 5 trying to a set a quali all together. A few waited back, and well to be honest, you have a clear track. Ok, maybe one lap you'll catch someone up but its not constant so its no bother. IMO there's no need to change the quali, just people should hold up a little, there's plenty of time to quali.

No need to make a change. Same conditions for everyone. F1 has the same issues. SCCA has the same issues. It's all part of the event. Those who hook up with a friend and qualify with the draft will do better than those who pull over and stop, looking for a perfectly clean space to qualify in. And yes I did see one of those complaining about qualifying pulling over and stopping, looking for open track.

Havent had problems in Qualy as well. If someone is too close to you, just let go off the throttle to create a comfortable gap. Simple.

15 minutes is enough. If one jumps in late or decides to get back to the pits for fresh tires - for the love of god please look in rear-view mirrors when exiting the pits.

To me, all it takes is a little common sense. Those who have the speed for a top qualifying spot should exit the pits first and those who lack the pace should go out last. Otherwise, even with gaps, the fast guys catch up to the drivers ahead of them and that causes issues.

Also, switching to full map view during qualifying can help find a good time to exit pit road for a clean lap.

On a side note, a bonus picture of the incident I mentioned in my race report!
