Lol canadians. race for me...shift 2 to this in one night DESTROYS consistency...I don't recommend it....off to do scholarship application! Be back on when I'm done

Yep, a good night for Canadians

Especially with the Canucks taking home the Presidents Trophy!!

Yeah thanks to everyone who showed up.

And congrats for the win Egg, he really showed up big time with hardly any practice time.

And with a Vegas hangover to boot :D

Cheers guys 👍

Still a little off today, Vegas takes a lot out of you...

I ran a short practice session in my own lounge before joining the room to shake off the cobwebs. When I saw the times posted in the room, I was like WTF? Then I realized I had practiced on comfort softs since Bob was finishing the break-in on my car earlier today. Maybe that helped?

Definitely 👍 he was in vegas and you didn't buy him a headset? Jerk.

 Wardez came through with something much better than a headset!
Thanks again for the Vegas hospitality Wardez.

Like turbo said, when it comes to online video game racing, lag is part of the territory and you'll have to deal with whatever comes your way.

Even if you want to point fingers, a simple replay won't capture the lag as evidence by the video wardez posted pages back at clubman. I lagged and crashed in to people resulting in a spin. Luckily I didn't ruin the race for people, but I did provide distance between 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th places.

I wanted to see how that would be handled if it happened. I'm still interested in participating if its still possible. I'll just improvise as I go.

Sidenote: Im not near my ps3 right now; Im at work.

Guys -

For those using the controller and followed the link before, DO NOT BUY the FPS one. You want the speed freak.

This thing did wonders when I used to play Forza 2.

Also, when I used to play on the controller for the ps2 I used the the left analog stick for steering inputs and the right analog stick for braking and accelerating.

bad ass!! Definitely going to buy that. Thanks for the link
Here's my car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsCV79yTdw4

We shared the track with ITA cars, which can overbore 0.40, run Penski double adjustable shocks (about $400 each), port match 1" in, run any air box and some other stuff. I was in Spec Miata trim and could not see the flag stand. My first time at this track. Qualified 4th in this group then had this horrible start. Got bumped off the track in turn one and had to work very hard to get back up to 4th place. Just couldn't get it done against that Saturn (140 hp for the Saturn vs. my 118 hp).

Awesome video, great driving

In all honesty I dont think I've run a single lap on GVE yet, I think I've only done the long one. I'll try to open up a room here in a little bit for the night owls (hi wardez) and get some practice in. I'll post my times and try to contribute to the thread again. Heres some old videos I made from our last spec series:

room up, but not expecting anyone to show up at this hour

closed.

ran 14 laps by myself, was hitting 1:20's consistently until I realized you can take the 2nd turn flat out if you time your turn in right. 1:19.4 was my fastest lap, then some people joined and we dicked around in some races. Feels like this track is all about momentum, I like it!

No sword fighting. Especially when we race miatas.

I just got back from work. Almost pulled an all nighter at work getting the show ready for the next contract.

This week's been crazy.

But anyway.

Brosif and I would be more than happy to host quali sessions. Just let us know the times and we'll be there.

But for now, I'm dropping dead.

👍

No work for me today, but my kids have off school today, I need to get some practice in before they take over the TV/PS3. I sure do need it...still running slow compared to most of you guys. Lol

Edit: Anyone have tips on brake settings or LSD for the'89?

Room closed...if you don't hear from me again, it was my family! They got sick of hearing car noises!

I can never get that corner right! It frustrates me! But I found out the slower I went the faster my times went. Best lap last night was 1:18:986

I don't know if its been confirmed yet but online racing does not add add milage on any of your cars.

...... I take it back it does, you just need to refresh the car list for the milage to update.

My settings are as follows:

Brake bias:
7f/5r

LSD:
Initial - 10
Acceleration - 30
Deceleration - 30

ABS - 1

You could also try playing with the ABS setting a little to give you a little more stability through turns 1 and 2. Often times I've found myself too eager to let off the brake so I'd snap off of it and then it would result in an unstable entry. So let off the brakes smoothly and see if that helps.

Last night I was practicing with spdu4ea at GVE Reverse and managed to run a 1:17.820 in the NA. I ran a few 17s but for the most part, as Turbo mentioned earlier, I am consistently seeing lap times more in the 18.1xx-18.5xx range.

Oddly enough, when I took the NB out on track at GVE Reverse for 20 laps the best I was able to run was a 1:18.1xx despite it feeling better/faster than the NA. The NB felt especially good, when compared to the NA, through the tunnel turn (T4, tunnel entry) as its balance allowed for a more confident mid-corner to corner exit drive.

I also ran some laps in both the NA and the NB at Suzuka East prior to the practice race last evening. Using the NA, I was able to run a fastest lap of 1:00.080 with consistent lap times in the 1:00.1xx-1:00.2xx range. At one point I was .220 faster at the S2 split but I managed to butcher the final two corners which ruined the lap and what surely would have been a 59.9xx.

I then took the NB out on Suzuka East and on my third flying lap I managed to run a 59.720. After a quick brake bias adjustment I headed back out and on only my second flying lap I ran a 59.4xx. At that point I had to leave for a dinner date with the GF’s parents so I did not get to explore the further limits of the NB’s performance.

One thing for sure is that the NB has a lot more stopping power than the NA which really allows you to drive the car in deep. Pair this with the NB’s tendency for oversteer and better lap times on twisty/technical track layouts should be a sure bet. However, it appears that the NA might have the legs on the NB as GVE Reverse puts more of a demand on power to achieve faster lap times. Please note that I haven’t adjusted the LSD settings on either car and, therefore, have not had a chance to test their affects on either model’s lap times.

That's what I love about having both of these cars. One of them is better at a certain type of track, and the other car is better elsewhere. Should make for some great racing with them and I predict an epic championship race to boot. Just wish we could customize the NB a bit more to make it more popular. Nice seeing more than one body style out there on the track.

Also, I just emailed the guy with the Spec Miata for sale to see if he knows anyone with a car available, but needs a driver. Not sure if that will get me anywhere, but it's worth a shot. I'd just like to see what he has to say, couldn't hurt.

He will probably refer you to people who rent out their cars for the weekend. But you will still need an SCCA license to compete to take advantage of the opportunity. My old man used to bring two cars to each race weekend. The one he raced and the one he rented out to two other racers. The rental money was enough to cover all the expenses for the year for both cars. Hell, there is still a guy at one of my local tracks that shows up with four or five cars each race weekend!

I never got an SCCA license because we didn't have a chapter in my home town, and I'm carless at the moment. I would happily pay for my racing gear and license if given the chance to drive.

Looks like my predictions of the Brosif and turbo hitting 17's was spot on. The consistency is a bit surprising since I know there are a couple of people I've seen with similar consistencies. That just means it's hopefully going to make for a more exciting race. 👍

One thing I've observed - Have you come across a situation in GVER where your car is unable to get it's tires warmed up? For some reason I ran a about 5 laps and my tires did not warm up. I tried driving especially smooth and somewhat soft. I then saw my tires were still pretty dark blue so I flogged the car around one lap basically drifting the car. Next lap time was an 18.3x

haha... headphones that cost almost as much as my fanatec wheel.Just like monster cables, they *must* be better than $100 sennheisers.

I think the expensive part is the external hub which acts like a sound card.
