Yeah and then the stewards could assess performance and see if anyone needed to be relegated down from the main series or vice versa. We could still maintain an A and a B room for the main cup and with stewards we could actually keep up with the points for both races. Perhaps limit the number of FMSC participants to 50 or so? This is, of course, assuming that the series continues to grow at the current rate.

Maybe depending on how this GT Class goes, make it Room A and use the Spec cars in Room B. Do well enough in the Spec Class, you get moved up to GT. Sort of like a NASCAR Nationwide to Sprint Cup move.

Just a thought.

I like the sound of that a lot actually man...

It would be a pretty drastic change yeah, but it definitely rocks as an idea for a more expansive and legit/freaking awesome full out series.

Going from a mere series to a whole freaking institution.

And I will take the last spot in the GT series if I may. :D

No idea on colors so far, but I wanted to get my name on the list.

Yeah, this thing is blowing up. If we do a feeder Series, I'd like to have someone else run everything on the other end. New thread, sign-ups, all rooms, etc.

Done.....

Except for one thing. I forgot to put Graham on the list. :P Anyone want to give up their spot? :nervous:

Turbo you should address the potential for cutting the chicane at cape ring and what will happen if you are caught doing it. I'm just remembering what happend @ nurburgring last season. I know its a sketchy set of turns to take especially side by side so going off unintentionally is inevitable, but doing it blatantly is another story. I'm not accusing anyone of doing it, I just thought it'd be something important to bring up before the race.

Yeah good looking out. I say it should be simple punishment. If you do it intentionally (i.e by yourself with no car next to you) at least twice, you're disqualified.

Could anyone please help me figure out how not to give up 0.5 second+ through turns 1 & 2 @ cape ring inside on cold tires with a controller. Once the tires are warm I can get within 0.1s (close enough to draft) but I just can't seem to reliably keep the rear end in line until lap 3 when the draft is already out of reach...

I've already got a plan in place, just was waiting to announce it before qualifying.

Again, it would be swell to know these things while still practicing. I'm currently working under the assumption that what doesn't trigger a 5sec penalty is OK (2 tires in the grass/2 tires on rumble strip). If this isn't the case, better to know now while adjustments can be made/tested to the line...

Shouldnt cut corners no matter what homie :sly:

Thats just proper racing guidelines, I doubt that will ever change. I think he's just talking about announcing a punishment if (and only if) you intentionally put 4 tires off.

We don't run with penalties, so it wouldn't trigger it anyways. Although now that I think about it, activating penalties during qualifying could certainly be arranged.

Edit: If someone is practicing online right now, would you like to test this for me? I don't get home for another few hours.

Just use OLR. Basically; if you keep at least two full tires inside the track at all times you're good. The rumble strip/curbing/kerbs is part of the track so you can ride on the kerbs with two tires on them and two tires on the grass.

Pretty much just don't John Deere it and you're good 👍

We ran penalties the other night at Cape Ring Inside. For some reason it only penalizes you if you cut on the right side of the chicane, you can still get all 4 wheels off on the left side and not get penalized.
It wouldn't hurt to have them on for qualifying, but it's not going to totally solve the problem.

We wouldn't need it for the Cup racing since we use live quali. but I don't think regular quali. in the GT class would be a problem since all of the guys in the sign up should be very trustworthy.

Penalties don't come in under free run, but they do when you are "racing" so it would work for qualifying (5sec "weak" penalty is enough to kill anyone's lap)

True.

Basically the rule in qualifying will be 4 tires off = DQ'd lap. During the race is the same deal, just make sure if you go 4 off passing someone you give them the spot back, etc. I'm sure a bunch of us will be saving the replays so we can watch out for stuff like that.

Yeah but it's not worth having it on since, like Egghead said, the penalties don't activate very well at the chicane in question at Cape Ring and because of what I said about the GT class.

This is only being brought up because of the possibility of cutting during the races and the style of qualifying that the GT class races are going.

It wouldn't be good to leave the penalty on during a race because if someone got pushed outside the right side of the chicane by no fault of their own they will be extra f'ed by the 5 second penalty. And that's definitely not worth it at all.

For qualifying in the Cup class it's not a problem 'cause we have people watching the quali run as the people are doing them

During this time teams should attempt their fastest lap in preparation for the race which will start immediately after the qualifying session (Please see Race Format for GT Class)

Just tested this -- the penalty does not kick in if the tires are still on the dark brown rutted? dirt (pavement, rumblestrip, dark brown dirt, light brown dirt, grass). On the right side (where shortcutting would shave time) that dark brown dirt is only 1 tire width. On the left side (where I don't think shortcutting would help since you already made the main turn) that dark brown dirt is 2-3 tire widths wide...

You have a pit crew, right? :P

GT series colours = Sepang Bronze - Black/Silver :)

👍

Think I'm going to start listing extra people as "alternatives" in case someone can't make it to a race.

So if there is no position or time gained during the race, no additional penalty?

The reason I ask is I still do go off relatively often from blowing the braking zone pre-chicane and cutting the left corner. Doing so still costs me at least 0.75s over a normal lap because transition from grass to pavement always puts me in a speed scrubbing slide and I cross the start/finish line 3 corners later at least 5mph slower than normal...
