We're just talking driver etiquette here, you guys can do whatever you want I guess. Just don't come complaining to me. ;)

I'm totally sending you a separate pm for every dent, ding, or scratch on my beautiful (extravagantly expensive) paint job. :D Wait...gt5 damage....okay ever dent, ding, or scratch that SHOULD be there.

edit: It IS possible to go 2 wide through the chicane and final corner(s), however both drivers have to be VERY aware. Problem is, if there are 2 rows of 2 wide going in there, the person on the left in the front row most likely won't be able to squeeze in between the two drivers on the right to go single file...

I would hope you informed them that there will be accidental contact especially on CRI due to there only being ONE clean passing zone. That clean passing zone is turn 1 and the ONLY way to pass cleanly there is to brake late, dive deep and claim the inside line. It's the responsibility of both drivers to avoid contact. For a pass to be made anywhere else on the track cleanly, the leading driver absolutely HAS to give up the spot. If they maintain their line there will be contact either in the s's or in the chicane. The end :)

Unless the lead car messes up between the chicane and the start/finish straight I don't think of T1 as a clean passing spot. I certainly don't think the lead car should be expected to give up the line because someone dove inside enough to pull their front fender even with your 1/4... It is such a critical turn for the rest of the course, it really sucks for you (and everyone behind who sucks at qualifying) when someone decides to attempt a near hopeless pass and pointlessly battle it out while the leaders pull out of drafting range...

On the other hand, if you are at least as fast as the guy in front of you, it is really easy to pass on the straight before the chicane -- cool your jets on the sweeper and stop bumping the guy in front, draft him up over the crest, and then right before you hit his bumper pull alongside and pass. You'll be side-by-side going into the chicane, but unlike T1, the original lead car will actually be legitimately behind and obligated to yield to their competitor (who is also on screen rather than pounding a 1/4 panel in a blind spot).

True, but keep in mind I'll be watching the replay very closely for anyone who goes four off while doing just that and doesn't use their best judgment.

Should have just stuck with Cape Ring South...

Turn 1 can definitely have a clean pass because you can do the same think on that home straight that you're talking about. I'm not saying if you're on someone's back bumper coming in to the braking zone you should hit them by diving into their rear quarter panel...

I'm saying if they are already pulled to the inside of you going into the corner and there's not enough room for both of you in there, then yes, the person being passed should let them through.
Alright, yeah. If they're already up to your door before turn-in... that makes more sense. 👍

Yeah I thought you just meant that the slower driver should yield to a faster one behind him (as I said, on the first lap of a long race I could understand that being the case). But by good rules of racecraft if the passer is alongside the door before turn then they have won the corner.

I posted this in another thread, but it definitely deserves posting here as well. (Passing rules and etiquette start with chapter 7). Perhaps even put links in the first post because everyone should see these videos:

Watch all 16 parts HERE. Total runtime is about an hour... definitely worth it. 👍

People complain that it's not GT5, but it's racing; all the rules apply regardless.

I try to stay out of the way. I'm open to constructive criticism if I'm not doing it right.

I managed to win a practice race last night when the leaders took each other out. :D

Well there'd usually be a lag issue with me if I got pushed off track. I usually don't take in any hard feelings when it happens.

I didnt witness any lag on my screen to me it looked like me straight pushing you off the track by not giving you enough room and you wiped out in like the last corner. I do not need to be known for racing that way. :)

Interesting. I forget if it was entroper, talon, or yourself(it happened all in the same night, lol) there was one bump in particular after the chicane where I was violently hit that was most definitely lag. When there's lag it's not always evident to you since your connection may be alright, however in my screen a totally different concoction may have been brewing, lol.

Either way, I don't recall any questional behavior coming from you so you're not known for any roughhousing in my eyes.

Overtaking is especially difficult in games since there's only one dependable mirror and no directional hearing. Often times I just want to brake check someone and nudge them just enough so that they don't spin out and overtake that way. I'm sure people would give me a hard time if I did that though.

Do i lag in races?

Do i lag in races?

Anyone can lag. It just depends on how compatible your connection is with the room and all the other people in the room. You can lag to one person but be fine to everyone else.

What a system.

Off topic slightly, but does anyone know what the "+" is for next to a few people's names at the bottom?

I just wanted to know if it was because me and turbo share the same internet which is DSL. Plus i run mine off wifi.

If your DSL is asynchronous DSL(which most are) your download bandwidth is much greater than your upload bandwidth... so in theory, you guys(u and u R1600), should be able to easily see where everyone is on the track. The problem arises when your upload bandwidth gets "choked" and it will then be hard for the server to determine the exact position of your and R1600's cars.

This is from your end.. but then you also have to account for how buggy the online servers have been over the last few weeks.

All that being said, I have raced with R1600 quite a few times in the IS-F league and I have never noticed him lag.

Edit: BTW spank.. I am the one you were talking to on the facebook page when we were waiting for your bro's results. My name is Rees.(guthrie)

Edit 2: Just realized we are running an adjustable LSD.. I am horrible with this stuff. Anyone want to throw me a bone, and give me a setup? Here or pm? Thanks to anyone who takes pity on me and helps me out.

Practice, and I just ran a 101.475 last lap.

I may be gettin' good at this. :dopey:

Edit: Oh and Turbo, I wouldn't be so sure. I ran both of those times on three lap old tires. Recently I've only been running mock-qualifying sessions.

Don't suppose you would want to share your LSD settings or brake balance with me. I understand if you don't.

Quit practicing already, you don't need any more!!

I'll be on soon, you better teach me some of your tricks...

Stoked for qualifying tonight, going to be really close.

Remember, we're only qualifying for 15 spots tonight and tomorrow as Graham already has a spot in Room A locked up. 👍
