But can those files be played on the PC? Or do you have to download them and add them to a PS3 again and launch GT5 to view it?

Edit: Btw am using your settings, though haven't bought the aero parts, are they needed? Anyway, my best lap has been 1.44.7xx, i have no clue on how to hit 1.43 really :/ Would probably be easy with SFR on, but i really want to make this without any aids.

Once exported to XMB you can put it on a memory stick, send the file (all 12MB of it!) when zipped and then the recipient can unzip, add to USB, transfer to PS3, copy into Game save data folder on their XMB and watch on their PS3 in GT5.

You want to be hitting 1'44.9 / 1'45.1 first lap, then successive 1'42s to have a good chance without SRF 👍

I just received 165000 credits for coming 3rd in this event and have been moved straight from level 3 to level 10!! Is this a glitch in the game?

No, it isn't a glitch, there is just a huge amount of money and experience for these events. Much like the Special Events in GTLife, if you finish 3rd, you get the combined credit rewards for 4th, 5th, 6th etc 👍

Well yesterday I literally did that focus st challenge all day. I never got within closer than 6 seconds from the leader. My lap times were within a 100th of a sec. from each other. I couldn't gain anymore time, I was just getting more tired. Finally I looked up a setup here from someone not using aids.. it was JJ72's setup. That got me to within 4 seconds of the leader but after countless attempts I couldn't get any better. Differences in driving style I guess. That's when I tried out SRF just to see what it was.. I think I passed the leader half way through the last lap. So basically I never got better than second place, I must be getting old.. or couldn't get a setup that matched my driving style. SRF is a total cheat though- compared to having it off.

When I went to do the Mazda RX-7 challenge I used a setup I found on here and beat the test with 1.00.xxx on each lap, passing the leader on the 9th lap. I couldn't believe how amazing that setup was. I thought I had my touch back, then checking the settings SRF was ON still. I was like WTF! I then tried it again w/o SRF, it added 2 sec. a lap and I couldn't get better than 9th.. So these bonus races are hard for sure, you need a setup that suites your driving style and you need many consecutive very clean laps to win w/o aids. Without either you won't win, at least on the focus and RX-7 bonus races. I golded all the first bonus races with my own setups..

Totally understand, you buy a simulator and all of a sudden key events are won by ticking the "i win box". It isn't so much the fact you have trouble winning without the aid (SRF) it's the fact you don't know if it is possible until the best racers in the world youtube it.

SRF is applauded by some and I can see why, it eases an otherwise very tricky problem. I don't want a blind dog though, so it irritates me :(

Today it was time for the RX7. Left SRF on and won on first try. Didn't even tune properly, just a few tweaks and go. It was a breeze.

Then turned it off. First thing I noticed was that I need to tune it properly... Ended 2nd, some 9 seconds behind first, with a few minor and one big mistake.

Not as hard as the Focus, and tuning here will make it very attainable, but once again, SRF is way more that Spin avoidability. It makes the car perfect and removes almost any mistakes from your driving, aiding in every aspect. Braking, turning, accelerating... Too much of an assistance IMO, especially since stability and traction control are supposedly off.

Focus is easy with skid recovery on but I think it's the only way to do it. You just can't catch first otherwise.

As for the rx-7 challenge, I found it tough but still very doable once you tune the car correctly.

If you take a look at the posts here in this very thread, you'll see that myself and a number of others have not only managed to get gold in the Focus without using Skid Recovery but have also posted our tunes/setups 👍

Focus Challenge Rigged? Heck yea!

Doesn't get much more unfair than a better car for the leader on better tires with a huge headstart and plenty of cars between you and the lead.

Doable, most certainly. I ended up about 4-5 seconds off 1st my first go, but I stuffed it into the wall in that last chicane twice, no SRF. Significantly more challenging than the other events though, which really does make me wonder if PD is trying to tell us we are now supposed to use grip hacks.

I really hate this SRF, to me it's a community divider, skill level nullifier, and a smack in the face to the "best console sim" marque, years of work on improving the physics is drained away with ONE push of a button.

It is more arcade and more evil than the rewind button on Forza 3.

Look at what we have, tire modelling and damage that doesn't work properly in the main career mode, unrestricted racing events, rubberbanding AI, is this the best sim on console should be?

Difficulty curve and mass market appeal should be created with the design of the races, AI strength, and track complexity, I agree with the above the difficulty curve in relation to the car choice is way off, a fiat 500 race shouldn't be harder than a race in full fledge racing machines.

But I appraud most choices they make for the seasonal races, as I really feel they have tested it and make it just possible for those who are really fast, while still handing out huge amount of bonus for those finishing in silver, and they let you get silver pretty easily.

FINALLY did it tonight. Yes I was using SRF. No way I'd be able to without.

I had my own setup. I don't understand some of the setups listed here -- most of them make understeer WORSE than it already is!

I never knew what the hell was Skid Recovery Force before ingame because it was always a default off feature that I never touched till this week where I can't beat the Ford Focus challenge and still can't get better than 2nd place. Now I know this damn feature exist, i can't or don't wanna turn it off because it's helping me cheat all the rest of the events I'm playing. geez it would of been much better that I never knew about this feature till someone said it's a must to win.

It´s not impossible to do it without skid recovery. I did it today, with some tunning (downforce at maximum, gear ratio at 210km/h and changed the height of the car to the minimum possible).

I was running with lap times of 1.42.5 to 1.43.2 and overtook the 1st on the second to last corner before the chicane on the last lap.

It's doable guys, just practice and you'll do it.

I actually think the RX7 event is harder than this one. I was lapping 1.00.5 1.01.0 and still getting second, 1.5 behind the first. Trying for about 5 hours and nothing.

PS.: I'm using the DS3.

I have yet to try this challenge how hard is it?

From my experience, the cars in 1st and 2nd eventually get a HUGE lead later in the race, making it very hard to catch up.

I came in 3rd with SRF off, but I want to see how much easier the race is with it on.

I used SRF on one race (the focus race) after literally playing it all day- just out of curiosity. Then I beat the RX-7 race on the first try when I didn't know SRF was stuck on. I used SRF twice now, once not on purpose, but I still feel dirty... like I cheated on myself. Is thst even possible? Now my brain hurts.. thanks.

After a few hours i finally won gold. I am by no means a good driver, I am using a DS3 controller. I think the thing that help me most was changing my driving line. I went from 1:44.5's to mid 1:42's by just changing my braking points. Anyways here are my settings

Engine tuned to 221 hp

Trans set to 124mph

Lsd 7
40
10

Suspension -20 -10
6.8 15.5
7 7
1 5
1 4

camber 2.2 1.5
-0.20 0.10

brake 5 6

driving line ON, but ignore braking points

T.C off
SRF on
abs 1

As GT5 still doesn't do real g-force (maybe GT7 does?) and I'm stuck with a DS3, I see no shame whatsoever in using aids - it's compensating for the feedback I don't get from the game.

That being said, I came 3rd easily with a stock Focus without aids. Fair enough I'd say.

With SRF on it's cake.

While I myself and a number of the members in this and other threads have tried to combat the swathes of people who come in and say "Seasonal events are easy, what's wrong with you guys??" and they are using SRF, equally I don't really want to see people who use SRF bashed or condemned for its use.

This is absolutely NO different from the long-running Standard physics vs Professional physics arguments in the GT5 Prologue forums here. In the end people just allowed the other side to get on with playing the game how they were most comfortable. The option of SRF is there for those who maybe don't have racing wheels or the time to dedicate to the events, or even the ability. At least they have a way of enjoying the game at a level that suits them.

Please respect the wishes of drivers who are happy to run with SRF ON and let's not persecute them or belittle their achievements, and equally let's not jump into threads and proclaim that the events are easy and unchallenging when people are discussing setups and tactics for something you did "on my first try" through the use of aids such as SRF.

If you want to show how competitive and skilled you are, there is the Weekly Race Series forum where serious and high-level official GTPlanet competition will commence shortly.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation, please do not ignore what I have said here.

This event is making me feel inadequate :(

I had this feeling too. So I tried the RX-7 race for a change. I no longer think I'm inadequate ... I know I am! :dunce:

BTW, love the signature. I think we need a new B-Spec instruction : When you are 99% of the way past an opponent do not stand on the brake so that you can pull in behind him for the bend that is half a lap away! (Might need quite small text for that :) )

After all that's been said and done, I REALLY REALLY LIKE THESE.

Think about it... It IS a huge challenge, and that is what we like deep down. Why do we keep going for all Challenges and Licenses until we get GOLD?

If you do not want to go through the trouble (or are not able to), you can choose the easy way. Even if it's the last hour of the last day, just to get the credits.

This game is like a journey. It's not about getting there, it's about the drive. Taking shortcuts or the easy, fast way will only get the game on the shelf and the pleasure to end earlier.

So who cares if someone else does it all with "super easy mode on"? I'm gonna keep trying until I've done it "right".
(Just as long as they don't come braggin' about how easy that was...)

for those of you with the sig. edition the apex book has a wicked little rundown on how to combat understeer and suggested car setups, a quick read through that and I won the ST challenge with no aids, got the RS at the bottom of the hill after the first hairpin on the final lap. Likewise with the RX7 challenge, I am using a g25 though which helps keep her in a straight line. I then tried them with SRF on to see how much difference it makes and it makes it very, very, very easy. I like these seasonals though, they not only challenge your driving ability, but make you think very hard about tuning settings :)

Well I did this event this morning. I had to make a few tweaks to the car, one of which was the full suspension package.

I used these settings. They are based on JD's setup, with the biggest difference being the rear ride height. No idea why that was so high............mis-type maybe. Until I changed that the front end was too understeery for my liking so tweaks were still needed. But then a lot of tuning is down to personal preferences.

I had all the driver aids off except the skid recovery and the ABS was left at 1. I had a few attempt without skid recovery and wasn't having the same amount of fun.

ride height adjustment: front -10, Rear -10
spring rate: front 12.5, rear 6.7
dampers (extension): front 7, rear 3
dampers (compression) front 3, rear 4
anti-roll bars: front 4, rear 4

camber angle: both 0
toe angle: front -0.15, rear -0.30

Good luck to those that have still to win this race.

The Focus Bonus Race is hands down the toughest event I've raced in GT5- please note I haven't attempted the RX-7 race yet, and I have been trying to win without TCS or SRF using the DS3. I've got a solid 6 hours into this one. Now before everyone chimes in with their talk of practice, and tuning, I've done both and I'm a capable driver (60 gold on license tests.) The best I have done is 1.0 sec back without the assists, and the DS3. I believe it can be done given my self-imposed restrictions, but not without some contact. For instance, on lap two going into turn 2-3 double apex, you'll have to take the Audi A3 on the inside- with contact. You'll also likely get into the Civic R on lap three in turns 5 or 6. If anyone has video of running this one clean, without SRF and TCS and without contact I'd sure love to see it . . . wheel or ds3 no matter. I've paid my dues on this one, I'm gonna give it a run with SRF on and call it done.

Guys, may I suggest... for an FF car, you want to make the rear stiffer and the front softer to counter the understeer.
