what happened to Bottas in quali?
He’s taking a whole new power unit so would start from the back anyway he qualified. So they just saved a set of tires and didn’t run

That and he ran to avoid having to meet with the steward for not qualifying. Since the 107% rule exist, same reason Hulk also ran Q1 and didn't make another attempt even though both made Q2

For today, it was simple - the rain stopped with 5 minutes left, so the last cars on hot laps had the best of the conditions. By that point the RBRs had run out of fuel; they didn't have time to refuel and put another lap in.

It is not allowed to refuel in Q3

Man the end of qualifying was pretty excellent.

PS: Congrats to Racing Point for opening with a fantastic 3rd and 4th qualifying result. From zero to hero! Where did these guys come from!?

Yes it is. They can refuel them at any point, other than the race, as long as they're wheeled back in the garage.
I thought in Q3 refueling was not allowed since 2010?

"Refueling is only permitted in team garage or FIA garage, and only FIA approved system made by French company ATL (Aero Tec Laboratories) can be used. Teams can change fuel load during any practice session and during qualification, except qualy session 3 or after qualifications."

Never too old to learn or 'fake' source? ;)

F1.com says:
  • Teams are not permitted to add or remove fuel from a car during a race. In other occasions during the weekend they may refuel cars but only in their respective garages, and only at a rate of 0.8 litres per second.

F1 Sporting regs say:

Neither mention any specific rules for Q3, so it seems you've got fake, and old, news.

That was a pretty close one in qualifying. Clever of Force India... Racing For... errh... whatever they're called nowadays... to run at the very start and the very end, given the rain. Too bad the early gamble on the wet track didn't pay off... the rain came down way too fast.

This is going to be a very interesting race start. Lewis is in a good position, but not a great one. He will have to work for this win.

Vettel, on the other hand, will be feeling pretty comfortable there on the front row.

That Ferrari is incredibly powerful.

And that Kimi is incredibly screwed.

-

Brake brake brake and more brake. Oops. Sorry.

Nasty crash that reminds. Reminds of me Grosjean’s mayhem from a few years ago. Perfect timing from Vettel to get it done before the safety car.

So, turn 1 we have:
3 destroyed cars (Hulkenberg, Alonso, Leclerc)
1 puncture (Kimi)
1 destroyed front wing (Bottas)
1 destroyed rear wing (Ricciardo)

Did I miss anything?

Why are they blaming Ricciardo for Raikonnen's puncture? They have shown two replays that show Ricciardo being clipped by an airborne Alonso.

The RBR has some speed too, even if it's with DRS. Quite the difference with earlier this season.

I believe they're running low downforce.

Which is why they sucked so badly in the rain in qualifying.

Meantime, Bottas is finally in the points.
